I practice elbows into the heavy bag each morning. Glad to see something different to try. You mentioned clinching up close in a fight, in my experience with street self defense, many times the attacker will close the distance, leaving the defender with elbow opportunities. I've gotten slower legs in my older age, so can't adjust to a quick attacker and determine the distance like my younger years. So elbows play a bigger role in my self defense strategy now days. I also practice side and back elbows to the body, aiming for the ribs.

Under a few circumstances, elbows are way more devastating than punches. It lacks the range of a punch. BUT if you are IN RANGE for an elbow strike, do it.
@charlescarabott769228 күн бұрын
The lack of range can be it's strong point if the enemy is very close and in an awkward position

Elbows and knees and the ability to grab on and clench your opponent while landing those strikes is important to know and train. A lot of people don't know or can't handle a close in fight, so getting that behind the head neck grab amd controlling them while striking with your elbows and knee strikes to the body is devastating.

Elbows are devastating. IMHO only to be used in dire straights, or when you feel you may be outclassed. Its too easy to inflict much more damage than is necessary. I am not a trained fighter, just some experience with bar fights when I was younger, and wrastling/practicing with my buddies. I remember one incident, at a bus stop. I was just taking the first step onto the bus, when some guy grabbed my shoulder and violently tried to pull me back so he could bud his way in front of me. I turned my head to see him, went to give him a spinning elbow, and stopped myself before I smeared his jaw off. He got the message though. Back then, early morning me was already a little PO'd just to be commuting by bus.

After striking with your elbow. You can now return with a full length of your arm and grab your target allowing you to use the other elbow for a follow up or a fist strike.

Thanks for the video. I like practicing elbows. I can't throw that many before I run out of air, but they are fun to throw. I don't have perfect form, but I'm fairly close. I don't try the reverse ones. I hit my "funny bone" too much when I try that. I just try to put the sweet spot on the heavy bag with good force behind it.
@rickwhitehouse806928 күн бұрын
Funny thing about elbows; they great for blocking a high kick, or punch. But there’s nearly no way to block a well executed elbow attack. And it really hurts to get a punch blocked by an elbow. They’re times I swear, and elbow can stop a supper sonic jet, or speeding locomotive. Elbows require closer contact, and a much larger opponent can throw you in a bear hug, or head lock. Show good escapes from head locks, and bear hugs.

I've commented on your stuff before - in a positive way. But seriously, from someone with multiple BBs in Jap (striking) martial arts, enpi-zuki is NOT an easily mastered skill - it's the basis of gyaku, oi-tsuki and a dozen other waza..... Mine will and has shattered rib cages and spleens... someone without an understanding of "hip" waza, or koshi, will hit very lightly, like Muay Thai.... Proper waza, Japanese style is 3-5 times more lethal. Additionally, your noted impact points are incorrect, and never a stabbing technique... 3cm (at MOST) on the front and back of the elbow point... Please apply some rigour to this practice.
@411Outdoors28 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing👍 I can’t say I fully agree on all points but I am very confident in my system. Elbows are indeed devastating as they should be. That being said I stoked you practice martial arts and have a system you are comfortable with
