I smith as a hobby but have thought of doing it professionally. I've gotten questions as to why I haven't as well but to them I have to say I can't at the moment. To all those that do smith professionally I am happy to say I'm jealous and grateful that you keep this trade alive. God Bless you all.

I’m not interested in the craft cuz of the money. It’s absolutely passion driven and I can’t wait to get started and develop the skills. It’s still good to know that I can earn money for my passion to feed it even more though.

The situation I'm in now I don't have a permanent shop, all my smithing is done at the blacksmith club and some days it's difficult to find time to go to the club on open forge nite and at other times during living history festivals it's tough to even get on a forge and looking into places to rent to set up a shop is out of the question! someplaces you can't set up a forge in the building, and if they do it''s big bucks $$$$$

Hello sir. I'm trying to transition from blacksmithing as a hobby to a small business. I am somewhat set up for some smaller scale items. Ive saved up and now have a forge, anvil and various other metal working tools. I personally don't care for my job but still work there because it pays. I have crunched some numbers and honestly I feel kinda overwhelmed with trying to make money off my hobby. I don't know if I'm fast enough to make small items and still turn a profit as well as cover expenses. I know I will get faster over time, and it may take years before I can start a business but I want to give it my best effort. I dont think I can sell enough items locally to keep a small operation going but again I'm willing to try. After all that I'm not sure theres an actual question in there. Lol I'm doing some social media advertising. Trying to test the waters. Is there any real online market for small forged items? Ive heard about EBay and Etsy but I'm not familiar with those platforms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love the craft and would love to make it work as a modest income. Anyways thanks sir and God bless!

Yes there is a lot of help that would speak to your situation on this channel..I would suggest watching all of our blacksmithing business series as we have covered a lot of your questions in detail there :-)only other thing I would add would be to keep doing your day job until you reach a point where the business is more profitable to stay home vs go to work.. As at that time it will be a much smoother transition for you and easier on the income :-) hope this helps in some way God bless you and thank you for contacting us
