As a Seahawks fan, I love this mock draft. Always very thorough and knowledgeable, man. Always love your videos. I think these 2 picks make a lot of sense. Pete loves to prioritize his defense. I’m not so high at 20 though. I love the value that Joey Porter Jr brings to the table, but like you said, things change sometimes and what I see is John and Pete taking O’Cyrus Torrence out of Florida. The dude is a mammoth and the best G of this draft class. We’ve got Lucas and Cross at tackle. Both will get better with time. I think Blythe and Jackson will be gone and having Torrence there on the inside of the offensive line just makes it better for running the ball and play action. Torrence would right away help us get that run game going, but I really like Porter at 20 too. Not sure how I feel about Wilson at 5. Just like you, I feel iffy about both, Murphy and Wilson. Both are phenomenal players, but the more I watch games, highlights, and other scout reports and I have yet to see a full game where I saw either player dominate. Something tells me that after Anderson and Carter are gone, the drop-off value of players is incredible. I do see them trading down to acquire more picks. Keep up the good work buddy 👏🏻🙌🏻

As a Bengals fan, approve with No TE in 1 and actually going OT. But I personally disagree with the OT target. With who you still had available, they likely would go with Dawand Jones or Darnell Wright. Both are better at RT and both fit a gap running scheme. Jones takes forever to go around and Wright has good technic. Also, Williams will be the starting LT unless someone already on the roster just outplays him over the offseason. Mike Brown for sure isn't letting a rookie replace a $13M player unless he has to, plus Collins injury was late and he didn't look like himself before it anyways.

If Porter can improve his ball skills, he has all pro written all over him. While I have become enamored in the past week or so with offense or Simpson at 20, taking Porter or Gonzo makes a ton of sense as well, if available. You look at the offenses in the West and there is some credence to the understanding that CB is just as important as DL. Giving up 3rd down conversions via the pass was a real issue this year. It is most likely in this draft that the Hawks address DL with the 1st pick. Rocking-up the secondary could be next, with the value at DL not quite there at 20. And don't give me the argument that Pete doesn't draft CB that high. There are too many factors in play. If one of the top 3 is available, Pete should and will be salivating at the thought of working with the elite talent and athleticism that they bring to the table, just like he did with Earl Thomas at 16 back in the day. The opportunity is there to complete an absolute all star secondary in this mock, so the pick is beautiful for the Hawks. Consider that Woolen today would go by the end of round 1 in last year's draft. I think the league learns and Brents and Kyu Blu Kelly go by the 3rd round and a Woolen type won't be available for SEA in day 3.
@teej11 Жыл бұрын
I couldn’t say it any better myself! Also with that type of CB pairing, Bryant in the spot and those safeties, good luck passing over the top against Seattle. And that in turns elevates the pass rush production!
@jayrah33 Жыл бұрын
@@teej11 yep I think you bring up a very underrated point that waaay too many people ignore or simply don't understand. Teams didn't really go deep very often against the Hawks, it was in the underneath to intermediate game that they got smoked. When the QB can't throw it immediately, the pass rush has time to get there. The other thing is that SEA has a decent pass rush. It's not elite by any means, but it's not bad. Nwosu and Taylor had successful seasons as pass rushers. With an elite secondary that means 1-1.5 more seconds to rush the passer. Throw in a couple big additions at DL like Wilson (since you picked him here at 5).... it could actually become a legit pass rush.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, is even close to ET in this draft. And he was drafted as a safety, which PC/JS clearly value more than CB. Which is why they gave up 2 firsts and a 3rd for Adams, something they never even came close to for a CB. But let the rest of the teams reach for a CB. Better options for us then in other positions. We had the NFL's worst rushing defense. Tell me how another corner fixes that. Especially losing Poona and possibly Al Woods? Jeez, Cobe Bryant should be better as a Sophomore. Tre Brown is there. @jayrah33 Жыл бұрын
If Geno ain't in, that changes all priorities. Do not... and I repeat... DO NOT SETTLE FOR LEVIS. If that happens, go get #1 to take Young and do it asap so that everything is set up and nobody else can jump the spot. Do what it takes, short of giving up 20 this year. No way you give up 20 AND 37. Instead, swap for 5 and give up 37, 153 and your '24 1st rounder (maybe try and get a pick swap for a 3rd or something for that 1st rounder). In that case the Bears will still get either Anderson or Carter, with the Hawks, Texans and Colts taking QB. So CHI should be very interested in this move still. Then SEA should use free agency to really attack defense with what would have been Geno money. If you stick at 20, go get Young another weapon; Bijan, Mayer or Smith-Njigba, in that order, based on availability. - Bijan gives you McCaffrey versatility and another home run threat alongside Walker. -Mayer gives you a reliable and dangerous stretch-vertical passing threat at TE. - JSN gives you a truly polished route runner who is the most naturally gifted space finder available in the draft. Any of these would be a major help to a young QB. If they are gone or a great move down presents itself at 20, recoup some picks and take Torrence or Michael-Schmitz to shore up the OL. Then look to add Downs or Dell. Still a lot to be worked out, but I think if you're forced to go get a young QB you gotta build around him first.

@@kmhill9959 disagree on AR15. I hate it. If Geno comes back, it's at 3+ years. In which case there is time to figure out future QB options. As an Eagles fan, since Tom Brady retired for good after his 23rd season, the Buccaneers can either sign Derek Carr who's leaving the Raiders or the Buccaneers can draft Anthony Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft as their new starting QB in 2023 next season. Anthony Richardson can be an perfect fit for the Buccaneers since he has the ability to throw passing TDs and run rushing TDs so the team will definitely go for him anyway in the 2023 NFL Draft so Anthony Richardson would be an better choice than Derek Carr as the starting QB for the Buccaneers in 2023 next season. @jamesvalvis1131 Жыл бұрын
All right, Teej. Let me explain it to you more clearly because you are just religiously committed to this idea that the Seahawks will draft a corner in the 1st despite never doing so in 12 drafts. Never even drafting one in the 2nd. Only drafting 1 in the 3rd (Shaq Griffin) in 12 years of drafting. It's incredible that with needs all over the place, you think this is the year that pattern not only breaks but is *shattered.* Literally 70 picks earlier than any corner we've ever drafted-- when we have the position pretty much handled. You said in a previous video that if ever there was a year we were going to draft a CB it would be this one. Wrong. If anything, last year was that year. We had nothing at the position. We didn't have the DROY candidate there, or a guy named after Kobe, or a guy who can do a moonwalk who probably gets resigned. We had an injured Tre Brown (whom we still have) and garbage behind that. And we *still* didn't reach for a corner. (Although there were rumors that if Sauce or Stingley fell to 9 we would take them. But they didn't, so we'll never know. It was at least plausible-- last year.) This is a deep class. We could easily spend a 3rd on a CB and make out fine. But no matter who we pick at corner, none of it will fix our last place run defense. Teams won't be able to throw much on us, but they won't need to. They'll just run it down our throats. Like Carolina and SF did. More history. Here's a little primer for you. Richard Sherman: 5th Round Byron Maxwell: 6th Round Brandon Browner: Calgary Stampeders Shaq Griffin: 3rd Round Tariq Woolen: 5th Round Justin Coleman: 7th Round trade Jeremy Lane 6th Round Walter Thurmond: 4th Round Save the last two, who were marginal starters/backups (although Lane was the best gunner in the NFL), all of these played at a Pro-Bowl level or made big-money contracts after leaving Seattle. Or both. And this doesn't even consider other late round secondary gems, like Kam Chancellor in the 5th or Quandre Diggs for a 5th and 7th trade. Oh, one more thing. The Seahawks don't really have a "type" at corner. What they have is a philosophy. They go after whatever the League is undervaluing. So, when Carroll first came in the League, they were undervaluing tall corners, (and shorter QBs like Wilson and power RBs bell cows like Lynch) and so they found those bargains and made them superstars. Now they are undervaluing shorter CBs, which is why they are drafting less tall corners like Tre Brown and Cobe Bryant. We're not taking a corner in the first round. It's not happening. So, the question is: Do you want to stick to your guns? Or do you want to be right?
@teej11 Жыл бұрын
I’m sticking to it because the fit to me make the defense, and secondary specifically the scariest it can be. But I know where you’re coming from and I respect it. If I were to make a prediction tho, I’ve been anticipating Shaq Griffin to be cut from Jacksonville and then Seattle will bring him back to be the other boundary CB. Then that will have me go IOL or LB at 20, then take a corner on day 3, as you noted they typically do. Thoughts on that prediction?
@jamesvalvis1131 Жыл бұрын
@@teej11 Maybe, but it could also be that Griffin is done. I've not paid enough attention to Griffin after he left, but it's possible he got paid and lazy. Or is just too injured to keep on going. Anyway. You have to realize that PC believes he could take your mother and make her a serviceable NFL CB. And every year there are dozens, if not scores, of young players who *could* work out if given the right coaching and opportunity. Which is why we've had so many projects like Artie Burns, Tre Flowers, and Sidney Jones. They don't always work out, but that's not important for our purposes. What matters is that's how the Seahawks do business. Always. No exceptions in 12 years of evidence. I'll be shocked if it changes this year and you've given me zero reason or evidence it will other than you personally find it aesthetically pleasing to have a scary defensive backfield and almost no one on the d-line under the age of 30, crappy and injured LBs, no true or signed or healthy RB depth, a far weaker WR3 prospect than we might have, no QB of the future, expensive TEs, and just garbage at guard opposite Lewis and another year of no decent center which has been the case since we traded Unger for Graham. For example, I assure you if Richardson is available at 15, we trade up to get him rather than let him fall to TB's pick. Your other picks thus far have not been terrible--Avila is good, although I prefer drafting a center to a guard or even a T and maybe kicking Abe Lucas to RG, but whether or not Shaq Griffin plays another down, Seattle is still not taking a CB in the first round. Or maybe, to be clear, *any* round. Unless another Woolen falls into our laps late.
@jamesvalvis1131 Жыл бұрын
@@teej11 But you did ask me what we would do with the pick. And well, I don't entirely know. It really depends on 1) what we pick at 5/trade back and 2) how the board falls. I don't like, for instance, taking Wilson at 5. And I think there's little chance they do it. But if they do it, then it's imperative that you take DT at 20. One possible exception would be, as I said in the last response, a trade-up to get a QB that has fallen. I'll add another later. These are my scenarios at 5. 1. Either Carter or Anderson is available. Result: take him. (If both are available, which is very unlikely, take Carter-- despite the rumors of character issues.) 2. Carter and Anderson are gone, and so are two QBs, but you like one that remains. Result: Take the QB. 3. Carter and Anderson are gone, and so are all the QBs you like. Result: trade back to someone desperate for a QB. 4. Carter and Anderson are gone, and so are all the QBs you like and you can't trade back to someone desperate for a QB. Result: Take BPA. This might be Wilson, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't be. It will be someone off the radar. And I cannot ignore the fact that Bijon Robinson sits there as good a RB prospect as any since Adrian Peterson. You talk about a scary defensive backfield for Seattle. How about the scariest one-two RBs to go with DK and Lockett? If your defense is going to suck (and it will no matter the draft), then win with Geno and the offense until you can figure it out on defense. Depending on how that all goes will depend on how I pick at 20. But what makes the most sense, is that because of trades either Anderson or Carter is chosen at 5, and then you fill the opposite position if Anderson is chosen, or, if Carter, hit the d-line again at 20. I love Kancey, if he's there. If Carter fell to us, Will McDonald IV just kinda screams Seahawks. John Michael Schmitz is also an option here. As is Drew Sanders. And if he somehow slips, Mayer. Those would be my top guys at 20. (Although I see a lot of mocks-- not yours!-- that stupidly have Robinson falling to 20, and if that's the case...You don't pass up that kind of talent. I don't care about the position or need.) WR3 is an option there as well. So, if Johnston falls. Possibly Addison. And even though I don't love him as much as others, Zay Flowers. If they take a corner, though, I may jump out a window.

@@teej11 TJ, I'm going to make one final point and then shut up. There is no such thing as a "luxury pick." The Seahawks traded away their franchise QB, a top 5 player in team history, to rebuild a roster that was utterly depleted and broken. We forget all this because Geno was so good and Wilson so bad in Denver. But the fact is that we were still a team that snuck into the playoffs on a tie-breaker after beating a QB-less Jets and the Rams' practice squad twice (barely). Then got our asses wiped off the planet by Mr. Irrelevant. We don't have anything close to a luxury pick. All of our draft capital is vital to us moving forward. And even a team like Philly, who seems so close to a complete roster and is in the SB, I'll remind you that the Rams just won one last year. And look at them now... House money? No such thing. Besides, as I already made clear in my posts, you don't have to justify anyone picking Robinson. He is one of only three clear probable generational talents in the draft.

Seahawks would probably trade back if Stroud/Young/Carter/Anderson is off the board and wait on 1 of Wilson/Murphy/Bresee at 7 or 9. They were in the top 1/3rd of the league in sacks and that’s with heavy Bruce Irvin use, Mafe not getting substantial PT, and 5th rd pick Tyreke Smith being injured all last season. The Darrell Taylor late season breakout bodes well for next season. And yes. The Porter pick is gonna get hate because it bucks history and logic with IOL, DL, and MLB being much bigger needs. Why in the world trade down 1 spot for pick 33 when you can probably trade down with Indy and get probably this year and next year's 1st and 2nd rd picks at least and still probably land Carter at 4? The only reason to trade down to 2 is if you're then going to trade down again.
