Idea take it or leave it: I started with pins some rusted, some they caught on fabric next to them or poked me when I was removing the bolt. So my solution was to purchase bobbie pins. I put one on top and bottom and it works great!

Love your storage idea. I love scrap quilting and bought a vintage library card catalog for my fat quarters, jelly rolls, small rulers, rotary cutters. The handles have a slot for a card. I put a piece of scrapbook paper with coordinating color of the fabrics. It stays neat and clean and isn't exposed to light. The drawers pull out and I take to cutting table. It has saved me hours of looking.

This is a great video. I do the same folding method on the boards, but I use clear alligator clips, like you find in dress shirts, to hold it tight. I have noticed pins will rust and leave marks if this fabric sits for any length of time. On a small size index card, I write the yardage, where I bought it and any info on the selvage. PLUS, I add if it's been washed. I slip that under the alligator clip. I have run out of fabric in the past and this info helps me to find the fabric again. When I have more than a fat quarter but less than a yard, I use the comic board to fold, then slip the board out. These stack flat beautifully. I have Ikea peg boards as well! I love them for my rulers, thread, scissors, rotary cutters and more. I/m going to check out those baskets! I currently have fat quarters in decorative shoe boxes. Thank you for this idea.
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
The alligator clips sound like a great solution, do you buy them online? Amazon? I live in a very dry climate and haven't had any issues with the pins but why test it, right? You're much more organized than I will ever be regards to keeping notes on the fabric. Thanks for checking out my baskets, I really enjoy them. Thank you for watching!

@@sisterchicksquilting Yes, I get them on Amazon! Several different quantities to chose from....Search for: NiftyPlaza 100 U Shape Clear Durable Plastic Alligator Clips Shirts Folding.....Only 1 drawback. They are clear plastic. You have to be diligent. I have a dog that loves to chew them. I watched your fat quarter box tutorial. I love that! I am going to make these for a baby room. They seem to be the perfect size for diapers, etc. Plus, I can put words on the band of fabric with HTV that I cut on my Cricut. (Diapers, Onesies, etc) And I bet they would be great Easter Baskets for teens. If I use their left over quilt fabric, they can use them in their room after.

I’ve been looking at sewing rooms a lot lately because I finally am going to have a space to do some sewing with a couple of big islands to lay out my fabrics on. But wow. So much visual overstimulation! It seems as though most quilters and crafters Online are “Bees'' - People who like visual abundance and organizational abundance, according to the ClutterBug quiz. The plus to organizing like a Bee Is that you can see everything that you have easily, & you won’t forget that you have this or that fabric or thread. but if you can’t quite see yourself in a sewing room like this, you might consider taking the quiz or at least applying the principles of what makes you happy. As a “cricket“ I need visual simplicity, but behind closed doors I want to see all the things, perfectly labeled If I can’t see them clearly. I’m also a little bit like some of the other “bugs” in that I need things to be very, very easy to put away. To put it away and be able to retrieve it with as little friction as possible. Otherwise, it just isn’t going to happen. crickets without a good organization plan tend to create piles and messes because they are too perfectionistic. So if you are struggling with creating the sewing space of your dreams, you might want to check into these ideas of visual/organizational Simplicity/abundance, and how easy you need it to be to put things away and get them out.

Thanks SO much for sharing your space & organization tricks/items! Your fabric wrap boards reminded me of using the heavy paper & chipboard which are used for SCRAPBOOK paper pads to solve a problem with dust bunnies falling from the stairs & onto my sheet music that I am sorting for one of our bands. We're using melamine as my 'dust covers' on the side of my stairs as planned, but we can use the chipboard and heavy paper as templates, which we have done in the past. I also use them for planning the layout of my studio each time I rearrange it. I cut pieces to scale for each piece of furniture (paper towers, baker's racks and cabinets from Lowe's) and can easily shuffle them around for a visual of how things will fit and may look before doing all the heavy lifting.

Love the Ruler Peg Boards, finally Ikea is opening a store here in New Zealand and I’ve got a HUGE Sewing room shopping list 🤣 💸💸 💸 . I do have one question though, not all rulers have hanging holes, do you drill your own if the ruler is missing it? Thanks for all the ideas, love your colour coded baskets, I’m sorting my scraps by colour right now, taking forever as I’m also cutting them to specific sizes!
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
Yay for IKEA coming to NZ😍❣️ Yes on drilling holes in the rulers. But you have to be careful and go slow. The. Engineer broke one of my rulers drilling it. Now some of the holes aren’t big enough or are too far from the top to use the hanging hook. So some of my rulers have two holes in them. With all that, it’s still the best way for me to store my rulers in my small space. Thank you for watching my videos 😍❣️
@bobbinsew2 жыл бұрын
@@sisterchicksquilting NZ won’t know what’s hit it when Ikea gets here! Most items are pricey, poor quality, and very little choice. I’m going to need a Semi 🚛 to get everything home 🏡 🤣 Back to the rulers, I’m very wary of drilling holes and as wonderful as Mr H is, he’s not good with power tools. I wonder if some sort of clip or clamp might work, bulldog clips maybe. I have a wooden rack with slots in it and it just takes up too much space ( plus if I miss when putting a ruler back you can guarantee something will fall down the back of the cabinet🙄 🥵 ) Have a good day!
