As a kid, my dad and I would set up at shows. I had (for a 9yo) a decent vintage collection. This was in the early 90s and the 91 Stadium Club football cards were hot. I loved the Emmitt and Barrys but didn't have any myself. One customer showed me an Emmitt he was selling. I asked how much, he said 25. I tossed a quarter on the table and he just laughed as he took his card back.

I absolutely love "disgruntled collectors" stories. those folks are always in the wrong, and yet they go through life never realizing how awful they come off to other people. that area of psychology is so fascinating. ive been dealing with collectors for over twenty years; a few years in the baseball card business, and over two decades in the vintage nintendo business. collectors can be very friendly, of course (any group will have kind people it in somewhere) but the people who collect and are obsessed with material possessions can also be THE WORST type of human. please upload more of these, even the three-minute stories are enthralling. thanks for your time!

Great stories Chris! I do want to comment on the rip-off artist incident. I feel like he’s more uneducated about card values rather than purposefully trying to rip you off. If that was his initial intention, then he would’ve had the eBay listing pulled up and ready to go during the first interaction. There wouldn’t be a need to come back a second and yet a third time. He’s the type who looks at unsold eBay listings and highest sold eBay listing to determine the value of a card. He was just smart enough to put Jordan cards up front, but beyond that, he has no clue about the value of these cards.

Hey, this might not be the best place for this, but I have a question for you. A friend of mine just bought a baseball card collection and he's been going through the cards. It's mostly junk wax, but he only paid $350 for about 20,000 cards, so he's happy. He found a 1991 Donruss #375 Jose Uribe card that has me puzzled. On ebay, sales show anywhere from $67,000 to 99 cents. I would think it was just a common, so I wonder why some of those cards have sold so high. Do you know anything about that card?
