Funny how often you can tell a really good artist/instructor before the brush even hits the pallette. Also how their review of even basic steps is informative and engrossing. Well done. Btw.. I love the term 'hummingbird sip' :)

VERY helpful! I'm pretty new to watercolor, and need some useful and FUN exercises to get myself going when I'm paralyzed by my own expectations lol

Just jumped into a “semi” mindless tree practice last night ….only semi because I was being mindful of the amazing and practical lessons I learned on this tutorial! Also….I am observing trees (all trees) in a new way…shapes and source of light ! It’s fun…thanks Jenna!

This tutorial is exactly what I needed to watch. I’ve been using watercolor for about 4 years. As I look over my earlier paintings they look better than my current ones😂 in a rut… thanks for the jump start❤

I started loving watercolour thanks to you. I stopped because of…life. But this video makes me want to try again! You’re such a great 👍 teacher, I love how you break it down so beginners like me get it. I also have your very first book. I cherish you ❤ Thank you 🙏, Jenna!

Great video, Jenna! Very helpful, especially the segment on trees. Question: What is your work surface? It looks glossy, like it wouldn't absorb stains. Is this something you have overlaid on a table or desk? Like shower board? (I'm ruining the table in my art room with spots and smears...)

Thanks Jenna, for offering so much knowledge on your channel. I have been playing with watercolors for about 2 weeks & was thrilled to discover you. I have never seen such depth & so many wonderful videos. It is challenging to know how to start. I downloaded your 40 page book. Thank you. Do you have a playlist for beginners? thanks for your lively approach to teaching.

I’m loving these long form videos! I’ve watched you for years, but lovingly, I feel like this isn’t your best work. I learned so much in my earlier days from you, and still enjoy watching beginner tutorials! Especially the color palette practice is uninformative, you don’t actually educate much about the topic. You just tell us the colours you chose and show us what you’re doing, but not much info behind it. There is a bit about the red and green relationship, but then the other colours feel a but more thrown in there. I know it’s a plug to your course, but this should be a preview to what you’ll unpack then. And I feel like it this video should encourage me to feel like I want to learn more in the course, because I’m not getting much from this to begin with. Just a bit of feedback I hope you take in constructively! Love ya Jenna! X

I, respectfully, disagree. This lesson is very approachable. The video is meant to "inject a simple practice of creativity into your day." I love this video because I am a watercolor artist who feels intense pressure to create an in-depth "masterpiece" when I sit with a plain piece of paper. (Type A...I know.) This video reminds me that I can play and practice creativity with the basics, which makes me a better artist in the long run. Moreover, Jenna is so generous with these lessons. The more in-depth lessons can be found and paid for on her Patreon. The girl needs to make a living! Lol! With that said; her free content is so good as an introduction to watercolor all the way through to even more advanced painters.

Thank you for this! I especially like the stripes exercise. Does the acrylic gum up your palette? Do you have to clean it off or can it stay with no issues?

Does “Scrubbing” destroy the paint brush
@judithnaylor5671Ай бұрын
I'm confused about why you blotted the brush before you went to the colour, then added water to the brush to activate the paint couldn't you have just gone to the paint?

I would love to see some practice exercises that don't use up vast swaths of paper. Is there a way to scale down? Also, is there an easy way break away from exercises and into actual subjects?
@lindacarlson8515Ай бұрын
I have found on Walmart two brands of paper that is not too expensive. Bee Inspired 50 sheets of 9x12 140 lbs. the cover says cold press for around $11. Another brand $9 9x12 Grumbacher Watercolor. Both have around 4.5 rating.
@wildflower1397Ай бұрын
@@lindacarlson8515 I already have Baohung/MEEDEN, Stonehenge, and arches, all 100% cotton. I have the Bee in a sketchbook that I use for practice. I just don’t want to use it all up quickly without learning something concrete in the process. :)
@13MoonsOverMayhemАй бұрын
@@wildflower1397I try to use each sheet more than once. Like, the gradient wash, once it’s dry, you could paint silhouette scene over it, or learn to paint lettering and write a quote or poem over it. The stripes once dry, you could use micron pen and do some mark making over it. I also will sometimes use both sides of a sheet. And some of my practice sheets I will cut into gift tags or book marks, or three hole punch it and use as a divider in a binder, etc., so it gets a use and isn’t just sitting in a box.
@pinkbutterfly8710Ай бұрын
You could always use smaller brushes on smaller pieces of paper. I started by cutting 9x12 sheets into 6x9s and that helped me feel as if I weren’t wasting paper 😊
@wildflower1397Ай бұрын
@13MoonsOverMayhem I try to reuse too, but had not considered gift tags. I have certainly practiced enough leaves to make a year's worth of tags, lol.

I could understand this comment if you were just looking for a little ASMR kind of video, but she’s teaching a process. And that requires speaking. I don’t think she is over explaining. She’s making sure that she talks through her process.
