Lessons in Chemistry streaming now on Apple TV+ apple.co/_LessonsInChemistry
Set in the early 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives - and the men who are suddenly listening - a lot more than recipes.
Starring alongside Larson are Lewis Pullman (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Outer Range”), NAACP Image Award-winner Aja Naomi King (“How to Get Away with Murder,” “The Birth of a Nation”), Stephanie Koenig (“The Flight Attendant,” “The Offer”), Kevin Sussman (The Big Bang Theory,” “The Dropout”), Patrick Walker (“Gaslit,” “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey”), and Thomas Mann (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”).
Lessons in Chemistry is produced for Apple TV+ by Apple Studios. Seven-time Emmy Award-nominee Lee Eisenberg (“WeCrashed,” “Little America”) serves as showrunner. Academy Award-nominee Susannah Grant (“Unbelievable,” “Erin Brockovich”) executive produces alongside Larson. Sarah Adina Smith (“Hanna,” “Looking for Alaska”) serves as director and executive producer of the first two episodes. Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan (“Ozark,” “A Teacher”) executive produce for Aggregate Films. Natalie Sandy executive produces through Piece of Work Entertainment alongside Eisenberg. Louise Shore also serves as executive producer.

Yeah Captain Marvel was written to be void of emotion because of her training. They literally explained it in the beginning. But that didn’t make for a good character. If we are going to have an emotionally devoid superhero, the movie needs to be gritty or incredibly campy. Captain Marvel was neither so it came off as a bit awkward. Brie Larson is a great actress. I wish they gave her more room for emotional depth as a superhero, or at least some sort of quirk so that the audience could empathize with her more. Her character is supposed to be human after all but it didn’t really feel that way.

I love that Brie Larson found global stardom (and also a plethora of detractors) with MCU after going under the rader for years, i genuinely hope she gets over this tentpole phase and return to making more character study dramas like Room & short term 12 which skyrocketed her career in the first place. Lessons in Chemistry is an extraordinary miniseries and a further proof of Brie Larson's versatility & brilliance as an actor.

That’s fair I did like her performance in the second movie a lot better. So maybe it was just poor direction and in the second movie she has two other people to bounce off of. "Maddie" was a very popular name starting back in 1880, which is the first year statistics regarding names given at birth across the United States are available. Likely it was popular before that. The only difference is that the preferred spellings were the French-inspired Madie (since it was often derived from Madeline/Madeleine) or Mattie (which was in line with other trendy names like Betty, Lottie, Patty, Hattie, Ettie, Letty, etc). The popularity of Madison post-splash helped to solidify the double-D spelling as the preferred one.
