I keep getting stretching and resting advice but strengthening is so important. I imagine it's not so good to do very early in the inflammatory phase but after that you'd want blood going there so you get a quicker recovery. Great advice. also find the advice of avoiding isolation exercise to be useful to, heard that can lead to some imbalances that can lead to more problems. You generally wanna stick with non-isolated exercises unless you know what you're doing.

@@areebhussain321 Just getting a physical therapist to get me on track and reaffirm my emotions was extremely helpful. A lot of the guess work I had been doing at that point had finally some direct professional guidance, but also just good ways of thinking about my tendonitis, like if I feel pain then I'm doing something wrong is a bad way of looking at it. If you're generally being self-aware about the pain and taking breaks and exercising, then pain every now and then is a part of the process. tho if you did something and felt pain for day(s) then you might have done a bit too much. Also don't see it as a wrist problem, it's probably caused by many other factors too. So for me it was the shoulders too, since i had a ergonomically terrible table that lifted my shoulders to a bad position which effects my tendonitis in my wrists. I had up to that point only done wrist exercises and stretches, when really you don't want any imbalance in your body at all. You should be overall be fit person so injuries are less likely to occur. I was recommended to jog for example and i think it's a good exercise to get blood flowing through your whole body. If you're eating well, exercising well, listening to your body, taking breaks, living ergonomically it *will* be better, and I'm glad i'm trusting the process.

I'm 56. I've been a dog groomer for 25 years. My hands are quite strong. Tendonitis comes and goes. The tendons in each finger and thumb are all swollen and painful right now. I do just schedule small dogs for three weeks wile things heal. I find that switching from cold to warm compresses helps, I find keeping frozen peas in the freezer for this.

Everyone, please take what she said about not isolating the wrist SERIOUSLY. I did 1 session of the standard pronation + flexion stretches and tyler twists / reverse twists with a 10 lb (so reasonably light) flex bar 10 times / side to try to deal with some mild forearm pain I've been experiencing and now Ive been dealing with unbearable ulnar sided wrist pain bilaterally for a week which is unlike anything I've ever experience before. Great video, and appreciate the explanation provided. I've already seen an Orthopedic specialist who prescribed an NSAID medication and similar isolated wrist exercises with a 1Kilo dumbbell at a table corner, pretty much as shown in this video, but he stopped short of calling it 'Wrist Tendonitis', though I think that is what he mumbled - though he did mention inflammation of tendons. Would some kind of compression band that go over the thumb and grab the wrist tight also help ? Cold pack seems to help to some extent, but I was looking to heal, and not just reduce symptoms. Is 'Wrist Tendonitis' / 'Wrist Tendinitis' indicated by a dull pain near the part where Ulna and the Lunate bone of the hand seem to meet ? Also does that dull pain suddenly increase with a feeling of weakness in certain positions ?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 6 ай бұрын
What you describe can fit many different diagnoses, including wrist tendonitis/tendinitis, so ask your ortho specilist what the diagnosis is. A wrist support can help because it helps you avoid those positions that further strain it and the support can help the tendons to rest a bit which can help healing. But it is important to only wear it short term in situations that you find increase your pain and not become too dependent on it.

Question: Doesn't "strengthening the wrist" mimic the motion that created the problem in the first place? How does load bearing make the pain go away, when repetitive non-load bearing motions (mouse movement etc) do not? Thoughts?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
Good question - I think I need to make a video to explain it but for now: It is all about getting the timing right. Often tendons require a period where you first reduce the load on them e.g. adjust you work setup etc. But then they also need strength training to restore their strength and endurance lost through the injury - however, this does not have to be high volume and it does not even have to take the form of traditional strength training. Often doing other activities that just create more movement first e.g. swimming can be super useful. But in the long run strength training makes your tendons more robust so they can handle other tasks better.

If you already lift weights and your injury is due to strength training more of the same wont help. The twisting stretches with theraband and rest. It can take months or sometimes years to get past this and sometimes it never fully heals, especially if there is a tear. You'll feel the pop if it starts to tear. For some it will be something you always need to keep an eye on. Easing back into exercising lots of warm up and gradually working your way back listening to what your body can do. A repetitive stress injury from light repetitive stress could benefit from strength training. Personal experience here. Get to it early if possible and get it under control fast. It can go from bad to debilitating very quickly.

TWO HANDS Always. I worked with a guy in the culinary world who would use one hand to carry sheet trays and whatever else and eventually had wrist issues and had surgery..carpel tunnel or something similar but it still applies. Use two hands as much as you can Or better yet.......don't sacrifice your one of a kind body that you only get one of for all job that will gradually take away the functionality of your one and only body. Easier said than done, If options are limited maybe you can work in a different part of the restaurant.

I'm nearly about to quit my job because of my tendonitis pain. It has been getting worse and worse for over 2 years of desk work. I'm going to try and use my 3.5lb weights to workout my wrists, biceps, and shoulders once every hour. Why you ask? Well, my tendonitis is seemingly gotten so bad that my wrist, forearm, and elbow ache all day and night. Also, my shoulder became tweaked several months ago after throwing a ball, so I must've aggrevated the tendon all the way up in my shoulder that day or tore a muscle, but seeing that my tendonitis is so bad in my lower arm, I now presume I tweaked my shoulder tendon at the top of my bicep. I feel so helpless without taking Celebrex to subdue my inflammation pain. 😫 I'm 34 years old and my desk job is wrecking me, but my doctor refuses to acknowledge it. I am going to a workers comp. doctor next week to see what he says instead. My main specialist I've been seeing refuses to acknowledge that my work routine is causing all of these issues due to liability concerns. My doctor just recommended PT twice a week for 6 weeks and 15 minute breaks every hour, so I'm going elsewhere for a second opinion.

How can you tell if thumb numbness is being caused by wrist tendonitis or early carpal tunnel? My nerve conduction study did not show median nerve issues although I have constant mild numbness and tingling on both thumbs, and mild soreness on my wrists.
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
If your nerve conduction studies were normal, it means your nerve is just super irritated but it doesn't have any permanent damage. So if you figure out how to stop irritating it, it should recover well. Your doctor or physio will be able to determine if you have tendonitis or carpal tunnel - it is done via a full assessment, not just one thing

This doesnt make sense. How do I give my wrists rest but you want me to strength train it? That would do the opposite of letting it rest and putting more strain on it. How do i give it a rest or take breaks from it when you want me to strength train it?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 5 ай бұрын
You first let it rest and calm down. Then, once it is ready you start gentle exercise. Your physio will help guide you through this process.

Bro I go to physiotherapist and let me tell you your pain will never leave you if you don't strengthen your tendons that's pretty much what tendonitis is its when your tendons are overused and they become weak almost like a week rope you have to strengthen them back to the way they were before or your pain will never leave you trust me I did the exact same thing that this woman said to rest her hand which you definitely need rest I'm not saying you don't but just resting your hands will not heal tendonitis that's what I did for almost six months until I talk to physical therapist and the second I started doing exercises and physical therapy I already noticed a difference in the pain level and I've barely even done a month
