Roll is only an option if you know for sure you get the ball out of danger. Otherwise you should really suck it up and take the dive normally to be able to react as soon as possible.

Never catch your fall with your hands. It is one of the easiest ways to break your arms or wrists, so you always have to absorb the impact with a roll or just take the fall. This is from a goalkeeper who has broken his arm doing that before. I recommend listening to me and stay safe!

i played backup keeper for my hs team as a centerback starter, i did not know how to roll. if i dived i took the fall and i got put back at centerback in one game and it was hurting to run😂

If you in the moment “goal or save” and you determined to save, your subconscious which triggers your consciousness won’t be focused on getting hurt rather saving the goal.

As an aggresive defense player, rolling after a fall is a good way to minimize impact. I also like breaking my falls with my forearms or just falling on my side.

I’m Italian, and played in AC Lumezane youth academy (serie C1 - 3rd division) we have some of the best goalkeeping coaches in the world, so I think I am qualified to speak on this: Tip 1: buy goalkeeping shorts. There are 2 types of goalkeeper shorts: - the ones with cotton/sponge padding (these are usually normal shorts with some superficial padding and are worn as part of the uniform - they were popular back in the days) - the padded shorts worn under regular shorts. The padding on this is more firm and sturdy. They will fit your legs as a glove as they are pretty much heavier compression shorts with tough silicone/rubber on the side of the shorts. Tip 2. Don’t roll like this guy does, extend your body fully or as much is required and land on the side of your torso NOT YOUR ARMS! and NEVER BREAK EYE CONTACT WITH THE BALL AFTER DIVING! unfortunately smaller amateur teams neglect goalkeepers training and coaching. Goalkeepers are the ones who need training the most but get constantly disrespected 😢 if you can play on either grass, synthetic grass… avoid sand and concrete sand pitches. Good luck

You'll always feel it, not much if you dive the right way. But your body will definetly be pretty sore the day after depending on the ground you played on and how active you were in the game, not to mention if you wore padding

Be careful with kids and coaching them to use the ball to break their fall. When you have adult hands, strong grip and correct technique it can work. For younger players not only can the ball hitting the ground pop it out of their weaker grips and smaller hands but it can also encourage them subconsciously to turn their chest towards the ground and come down on the ball rather than staying side on. Coming from a GK coach 👍

I played in the youth academy of a pro team in Italy.. everything I watched in the video is straight BS.. also the goalkeeper in the video doesn’t seem a pro to me.. his movements are rather “amateurish”?? Or maybe newer generation are taught different to older generations?

You should never land on your hands because it's dangerous and you might get a serious injury. The best option is landing on your side with your arm in front of your body because it's very safe and you can get up fast.Rolling is also very safe but you only should do it if the ball is out for a corner kick or out of danger because you can't get up fast.Hope this helps

Guys do not use the ball to stop your fall because when you slam it on the ground like that it can easily slip out of your hands instead you should just man up and take the fall plus it doesn’t even hurt

For any gk out there Rolling or breaking your fall is stupid 1:if you start rolling and somehow the striker gets the ball youd still be on the ground .gk is not easy you got to fall and almost instantly get up as soon as you possobly can if you KNOW its got out you can stai on the ground for a little but get up before any corners so youre ready ussually 30 secs tbh . tw ussually i like putting defender on the bar so i can attack the ball ,grest strat destroyed the 8th graders lol(7th grade)

Yeah, really shouldn’t land directly on the ball, it can help cushion if you impact with your elbow first tho. Just gotta maintain your three points of solid contact with the ball as you go to ground with it (the ground, upper hand, back hand)

You don't break your fall with your hands. You break the fall with your hips and and arms extended. Hip and Pit to the ground never your hands. Using your hands will ruin your gloves in no time.
