*Almost all kinds of goldfish prefer still water or quiet water* . Make sure you *minimize the water current in your tank as low as possible* . Strong current will change goldfish body shape and increase their stress level.... eventually lower their immunization and trigger diseases.

I just went thought getting mine into a larger tank and couldn’t figure out what I did wrong. They clamped, floated on bottom and lost a percentage of fins. What I did do different besides upping tank size was add a high flow filtration system. I couldn’t find this answer anywhere online but finally just put a sponge over the outlet and it slowed down the flow immensely. They seemed to respond almost over night. I hope I can still get good filtration and oxygenation by water movement at that speed. I got this filter for the job of both of those.

@@caserts33 I figured out the same solution. I had a 2 foot spray bar that I now position vertically in the tank and I put sponge from a sponge filter on half of it. There’s enough circulation to clean the poop but not blow the fish around.

I love your videos Luke. Just out of curiosity how often can a female ranchu lay eggs? My bf started taking care of 2 fancies a male and a female whilst living with his previous roommates who weren’t feeding them regularly and the tank was poorly. His roommates decided to give the fishes to us since they no longer wanted to take care of fancies. The male oranda is big and chunky and has no issues. But the female ranchu has finally begun growing in size since living with us. But she has been laying eggs since April and so far she has laid eggs 9 times in just about 4 months. Since she measure 3.5 inch. We have been getting worried that it will take a toll on her tiny size. Is this considered normal for her size?

Adding salt increases oxygen. 5g per litre for plant less tank. 2g per litre for planted tank.

Pecos require warmer temperatures than goldfish do, so they would be stressed out in cold water. They also grow up to be massive, and will become aggressive. If you want algae control for a goldfish tank, get large snails like applesnails or mystery snails.

Do you think Oranda goldfish are a good beginner fish? I plan on getting some..
@WobblesandBean3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a ryukin over an oranda for beginners, just because they have the same body type only without the wen that covers their heads. The wen can grow too much and cover their eyes, and in some cases needs to be trimmed in order for the fish to be able to see.

I have had a terrable time with my fish. I keep killing them and I still don't know why. Of the 8 original guppies I only have 3 left. I have spent tons on them trying to keep these last 3 alive. I have lowered the temperature to 68, they seem to like this temperature, I have gone overkill with the bubbles, I have a 10 gallon tank with a 20 gallon pump system attached. I purchased this all yesterday 2 of my guppies are having the time of their lives, with all of this stuff there is still one guppy that is on the surface all the time. He swims fine, and occasionally gets a burst of energy and swim's and plays with his friends, but still spends 90% of his life on the surface getting air. Will he recover if it's any help he is a juvenile, the other two are grown adults. It's tearing me apart each time I lose one, not just because I lose them, but because, I don't know what is killing them. I have spent $150 on medication, I buy special food just for guppies and measure it on the scales drug dealers use (I'm not a drug dealer) I have only a 10 gallon tank but for 3 guppies that's huge. I have the most elaborate water testing system that cost me over $100 and I keep the water unbelievably close to perfect. My nitrate got to 5ppm only once and I went mental getting it back to zero. Everything else is very close to 0, the alkaline sometimes creeps up but nothing crazy, and I'm on to that right away.

Keep them in a big pond or small tanks that provide air bubbles because this fishes are very playful and like to explore add water plants too
@Libertyenvy2 жыл бұрын
My fish are very fine without an oxygen as long as you have live plants and big diy pond
@kruose Жыл бұрын
You went overboard with the bubbles I think. They can get gas bubble disease when there is too much dissolved gases in the water. The floating fish probably didnt need air but couldn’t control their swim bladder anymore and the gases inside made it float.
