There’s a little bit of an easier way to fix any type of soft carbon buttons like this, First take your carbon button pads get a piece of paper and evenly swipe each button carbon side down with even pressure down the paper three to four times about 3 inches until you see an even black mark and do this with each, then when you’re done just take isopropyl alcohol and clean each pad Plus the surface of the Circuit board Contacts for the buttons then put device back together and 90% of time it fixes all the issues.

Thanks for this tip - you saved me a bunch of time and frustration trying to find carbon dots. Instead, I followed your advice and started working... but intermittently. So I tried swiping the misbehaving pad on the paper two times in four directions (N,S,E,W) and now it works better than new. Much appreciated.

smart to use graphite as a conductor, the alluminum foil method, any idea how much would it last in the long term with constant use? also, would that affect the board due to friction? (the actual copper on the board)

That wipedown, should be done with alcohol, on the cotton, and easier with Q tips. Also, wipe down the buttons. Also, can be done with liquified carbon paste. I don't do that any more, as it doesn't last. I was hoping you would clean the outside of the remote. that's just too gross. I'd be ashamed to let anyone see it.

Shoe Goo (barge glue) would be good for the aluminum foil and graphite dust. The carbon dots should come with adhesive already on them, but if not, Goop would be good for them.
