Years ago when i was in the navy i used to make creations like this with ropes. I dont have the skill now but it is something that if you practice you can make a lot of beautiful things and low cost personal gifts.

I have plenty of scrap wood in my shop, I’ll have to throw together one of those jigs and practice more knots. Right now I just throw a simple snake knot lanyard on my knives with may be a bead. I also like to weave patterns through the kydex sheaths of my fixed blades.
