I think the problem you are having with the antennas is because you have them turned the wrong way. Those holes are actually keyed, though it is hard to see. One side of the hole is flat. Further up the antennas, just before they become skinny, you will see two protrusions. Those should be facing the front. You can check promo photos to confirm.

Only in that both are some what realistic mecha anime from 80's.

both series are created by the same creator, ryosuke takashi from the same studio (sunrise) and most of all both had their mechs designed by kunio okawara
