Thanks for the comment. I would stick to the canyons, that's where I find most of our fish, but it is also not necessary to fish for them there at times. water conditions and bait is a factor. Saw a Thresher off huntington pier yesterday. might want to try there if your in the area.

I'm looking for a small boat like that to attempt the same thing in SoCal. How often can a 14-18 foot skiff get out offshore??

If you really want to catch sharks, get on a boat. Its the peak of shark fishing season right now. Helgren's Sportfishing has a shark boat going out every Friday and Saturday night out of Oceanside.

I would really like to go and fish for these sharks. Any way to get info on booking a guided trip for 2-6 people?

This video is sick! I've caught my share of threshers on piers and kayaks but I'd love to hit a little skiff for some 200+ guys

Fly line down a mackrel on a rig with 40lb test and a 6 ft steel leader with 250lb coil wire and a size 9 hook on the end. Best time to hit thresher is 7-9am. Try the HB Pier cause Newport sucks

Hi, this is awesome. I live in Socal and was wondering if you do charters? Please let me know. I will send you my contact info. Thanks. Ray

Its not that hard. Just get a steel leader with double hooks, size 9/0, and hook one through the front (mouth), and one hook through the back (tail or back). That way, even if a shark doesn't swallow the first hook when it takes the bite, it will at least get the second. If you need help making a steel leader or want to buy a pre-made one, go to Taka's Tackle in Anaheim on Lincoln. They will help you out. I've caught 5 threshers this year from local OC piers using this method
