I have a Penn Spinfisher V 5500 Liveliner. Got that a few years ago and absolutely love it. Also have a Penn Fathom 15 2-speed. Absolutely wonderful reel. I use it for my offshore rig. Even with the 15 wide, it packs plenty of 65 pound braid on it. I've hauled up a lot of grouper and amberjack on it, so it's got the power to handle some big boys offshore. Even pulled up a big loggerhead turtle I foul hooked in 100 foot of water.

I know this is a late post. But the Guides on your surf rod are Fuji Alconite. the most expensive guides are Alconite and Torzite guides. if your using straight monofilament line, as the line goes back and forth on these guides it prevents the mono from curtailing and stretching as compared to ceramic or SiC guides. it is also more durable for using various braided lines when battling fish it prevents the braid from cutting into and degrading the life expectancy of the guides. the set of guides can cost up to 20-35% of the rods cost compared to ceramics.

I bought a spin Fisher v combo the beginning of the year, only used it about 6 times, both salt and fresh water, and the handle broke. I had to manually bring in the line got snagged and 2 guides broke. I always rinse my rods after. My experience with penn

congratulations... love my Penn rod but don't love ceramic rings that crack for no apparent reason or just fall out (once while inside cloth lined rigid plastic rod tube). I've started reinforcing my rings with liquid steel epoxy...it's a bit of work and shouldn't be needed on rings that cost so much (Fuji), but I don't bring a lot of rods to the beach (get around to beaches on a motorcycle in Bali) so that's my solution.

Congrats man on some great gear!! I would buy a Vi,its a good choice. I just looked up the Pursuit combo "Dura-guides",they are all stainless and not harder than ceramic. They will work well for mono but braid can likely cut into the guides under pressure. Especially the tip,maybe change the tip guide.. This occurred on my "ugly tuff" guides that are of very similar design. At least they wont fall out tho...
