We used to have a threshing machine just like it and then it got destroyed in a barn fire it brings back memories I now own the W111 engine that powered it

Were the threshing machines very efficient compared to the combines of today ?

Are those bundles tied with binding twine? if so, wouldn't that get tangled up inside the thrashing machine?

Actually the knives at the front of the machine cut twine to free the bundles so it's not an issue. Plus the binder twine is extremely thin compared to the twin that is used for baling hay. Anymore even small bales use plastic twine rather then sisal twine I used to use. I had a neighbor who started what has become the Hesper Mabel Steam Engine Days back in the 1950's because of his passion for the old ways I well remember his thrashing grain on his own farm using his own rig and steam engine or else his 460 international. He passed away in 1971 but would be proud the tradition is carried on by his family and now his grandchildren.

@@deerepower337 No, they don't!!! I should have been a little more specific with my post, but I was referring to the people getting in the way of the person filming. I sacked grain for years when we had an old Case Thrasher, and then "graduated" to feeding. Alas, the Thrashing Machine met the "Blue Flame Angel of Death", but I did keep the old binder we used. I would love to find an old Thrasher. My nephew has a JD 630 wide front, and I would love to hear that tractor running it!!!
