Long-term Review: Thrustmaster TCA Officer Pack Airbus Edition

Mine match up. However, in the process of setting mine up, I performed the calibration procedure which involves aligning them with the supplied screwdriver through the holes, then unplugging, replugging, and clicking through the detents as shown in the instructions. I don't know how mine was before doing this because I performed it right away. Yes, it's flimsier than the metal real ones, but considering that the price is down to merely FULL MSRP, we're making progress....of sorts.

You should think about RMA your throttle, just did it with my joystick (Z-axis sensor defect) and got a new replacement within 10 days.

I've been using this pack since march, finding it very satisfactory. There was a firmware update on installation. I too experienced some disparity, but setting up a different controller setting for the Airbus 320nx by flybywire was essential. The settings are further enhanced in the Flypad on the flight deck. However it is imperative that before every flight these settings are checked and verified. However this is only for the throttle. Onec on takeoff the stick locked up, losing nosewheel and rudder control, causing me to abort, and check the settings, before lining up for the eventual takeoff. Flying with a helicopter setting is too difficult.

lol i just ordered this from my 3D pro, I got a beast PC and game in VR alot and stoked i can upgrade this pack later if i flight sim alot to justify it!

Yeah, 3MB Flightsim is a Swiss KZbinr and his result was nearly the same. He also criticised the throttle difference so youre not alone ;)

on mine it is the same. theoretically calibration process should help mitigate this, but the process is cumbersome and not precise. compared to this really nice joystick it is the biggest let down of whole set. be aware.

You have to calibrate it correctly, you must go through every detent including idle and full reverse, both my throttles are perfectly aligned but at first one was off because I had done the calibration incorrectly

My 8 years old good thrustmaster hotas x is beginning to have some annoying contact issues so thinking about upgrading... The 180€ price is a bit rough tho, so maybe I will survive wit this

When I push forward on the throttle, it shakes and lifts up. What are you doing to ensure that the throttle remains stationary and stable?

@Threshold Nice review. I know you said you went through the user guides but you did not mention if you did the hardware calibration process. NOTE: If you follow the steps, you'll note that the video and guide end the calibration at Idle detent position, some people say as last step you should also move throttle FULLY REVERSE, press the two red buttons and at that point you should exit the calibration. Not sure if that makes a difference but worth a try. Unlike contact based potentiometers, the contactless hall effect sensor's min/max is set in "software/firmware" and needs to be calibrated so the positions are matched. Sometimes during shipping, the slightest movement can change this definition of min/max as the pivot point of throttle levers is really low, the smallest of movements at sensor translates to larger movement at top. calibration will reassign the new values of each detent at a hardware level.

Great review, dropped a sub 👍. I am currently using the logitech extreme 3d pro, it is fine but I think an upgrade would be nice as I am increasingly using the Flight Sim. I also do a fair bit of GA flying other than Airliners, have you found that the pack is good for this aswell (especially the throttle)? Thanks.

I want to get it to replace my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro as well, I do think it would be good for single engine as you can use one throttle for throttle and the other for prop or mixture.

Well this is a product problem. Everyone that purchased the throttle quaudrant has a calibration issue and those that received a free set to display and show on their channels never had a problem, great out of the box...RIGHT!

Hey guys and gals. I´m interested of this product. No, I don´t use it on to fly airbusses but HUMONGOES battle ships in space. I definetly like the joystick. That is familiar to me but separet accelerator is new to me... Yeah, mouse fly, I know! Do you advice me to get this one or some other product? Mind you that my money is limited, so no thanks to those 500€ stuff, pls :) Thanks in advance

It comes with an Allen key/screw tool that is designed to slot into the a hole that keeps both engines locked together. It isn't as slick as the one on my Warthog throttle but it also works well enough. The box I just picked up of the Airbus combo today has an extra instruction sheet showing you how to calibrate the throttle 1. prior to connecting the throttle to the PC, lock the two engine throttles with said-tool, press and hold down one of the set buttons before plugging into the PC, then step through the 5 major detentes, clicking the button at each step. That should align both sides of the throttle. You can download the steps from a PDF from Thrustmaster support
