Great convo - so interesting to hear Dustin explain a lot of points that I've been discussing with my fellow Thrice friends.

I love everything about Thrice. Each record is unique and can't be compared as better or worse, just different. The 2003 version sounds less dynamic, but it made sense for its time and set a trend with its popping momentum. The new record has a more spacious touch and developing dynamics, giving it a timeless energy that serves each song with deeper sense of musicianship. The 2003 stiffness is iconic, reflecting a young and edgy energy, from previous records but gives us a leap in the arrangements and delivery showcasing their imperfections to the world in the most perfect way (which in my mind felt intentional as my mind was blown away, especially for heavy punky music with a touch of carelessness). Both records are perfect in their own iconic way, both gave me the sense of adventure I have always enjoyed with music, I cannot say that for most bands, especially this far into their careers.
