Good grief, does the whole world know how incredible DK and TT are? Absolutely amazing, gives goose bumps, these lyrics should have won some national poetry award or something

Gotta love the writing. Dustin writes in such a way that they're Christian but they're open enough so that they don't impose it on you. Like this song could easily bre about god or air depending on your interpretation. And that children is the beauty of music

I really wonder if he took some lessons or his voice just matured beautifully. I remember during their earlier years, he wasn't that good when it came to singing

I think it's so cool how they're songs can be incredibly heavy or be simple folk-like songs and still sound just as good if not better in some cases. That's some really great writing when you can do that with your music. Thrice are incredible.

If you've got a problem with his lyrics being "too Christian".... suck it up. My dad's a raging atheist and loves Thrice, their lyrics, and was brought to tears by this song.

@Ivhobbs23vI Lyrically, it seems like Dustin has been searching for metaphysical meaning for a very long time. He has often alluded to scripture and Christian authors such as Carol in his words, and some songs are very straightforwardly about Christian concepts (such as Come All You Weary). His songs never endorse Christianity, but rather, discuss its concepts, whether they be valid or invalid. However, this song is not an example of that.It is a letter from Air to humanity(the album's theme).

or19937 I totally agree, the new Thrice material seems to lay mockery on the older material, but we must acknowledge and respect their older material as being the foundation of where they are today. Im glad they moved on from melodic hardcore material, they were one of the best bands out there in that genre ,they charted the whole genre, they moved on and hardcore is now an exhausted dead scene.Its funny that bands like Avenged Sevenfold are being praised for copying what Thrice did long before.

@vDzKv totally. honestly, i wish i could talk to dustin, or whoever wrote it. really find out what it all truly means. Unfortunetely, i think that I defended it to be about God because as far as i've been told the members of the band are christians. I'm a christian, but I'm a songwritter too. And if people looked at every song i'd written and tried to relate to god, i'd appreciate it but probably get frustrated, not every song is. You dont need to sing about god to make a solid point.
@Ivhobbs23vI14 жыл бұрын
@vDzKv But aren't there other songs he has written that are subtely christian? I read that somewhere then when I heard this song I kinda made the connection with certain lines, but then again I'm often wrong. I don't mean to entirely bend it to any beliefs, certainly not mine (I'm atheist you see), I just thought if you chose to interpret it that way it wasn't completely absurd, but apparently that's not the case

way better than the album version
@0dontpanic014 жыл бұрын
@vDzKv "And after all of this I am amazed, that I am cursed far more than I am praised" Sure, reading the lyrics clearly represent that it is about the air we breathe, but look deeper, it seems to symbolise God's presence. We take the air we breathe, which has given us life and moved in us, for granted. I don't see how I'd have to lie to myself to make it about god, because eve if my interpretation isn't correct, the last line seems to be about alot more than air...
@HazzeyE16 жыл бұрын
It's just a different interpretation of the song. If they were to do it (acoustically) at the same speed as the album version, it would probably be too empty.
@vDzKv14 жыл бұрын
The final songs on each of the indexes are personal letters from the elements to humanity. Fire's violence and lament, the sea's dominance and warning, air's care and guardianship , and earth's protection and disappointment. I understand how that line CAN be about God (I really do). But in this song...its not. If you want, write your own song with that theme, utilize the line, and people can talk about how cool it is. But for now, appreciate everything Air does for you.

@vDzKv14 жыл бұрын
@Ivhobbs23vI You have to lie to yourself to make this about God. It is obviously about Air, and any attempt to make say otherwise is a stretch. Not to mention that you assume any song about God MUST be Christian, and can't simply be a song about god generally, or the god of a different religion. Music can be interpreted. But changing a song's meaning to fit your beliefs is silly, when the implied meaning is apparent and already beautifully written.
@loganarowland13 жыл бұрын
@0dontpanic0 You can make a good point, but the only thing solid in this world is God, to make a solid point, without doubt, must have God in it. But you are right, you don't have to sing a song about God to make a good point.
