It is On30. A 30 inch O scale narrow gauge. Quite popular and inexpensive way to get into narrow gauge. The engine you have was first offered for Christmas Village sets. It is comparable to On3 but runs on HO track. If you can get over the fact that the track measures 30 inches instead of 36 inches just 1/8th of an inch from 3 feet in O scale. There are a lot of very nice models to add to build a narrow gauge model railroad.

you need to clean the top of the rails- a small block of 1x rubbed on just the rail heads will buff some of the oxidation off the metal

I normally use a Bright boy to clean the top of the rails. What is a block of 1x?
@blairmielnik8228Ай бұрын
@ just a piece of wood- it won't scratch the rail like abrasive bright boy's, over time the bright boy will scratch the rail and lead to more spots for oxidation to take hold

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. I should have just said it out loud. A block of one by. Hahaha

Please no not force those couplers into that 'closed' position they aren't supposed to do that. That can (and will) break them. Keep them in the open position all the time. Place the cars on the track and push them together on a straight section of track. They then should stay together. The pin on the bottom is to uncouple it. These are Bachmann's E-Z mate couplers, plastic clones of Kadee couplers. A magent in between the rails will uncouple it. In terms of what it is, it's a set, that's why you struggled to find it. It's Bachmann's 'Denver & Rio Grande Western'. (Yes that's the set name, very original)

That part is a brake cylinder. It's located under the cab at the very back of the engine. right side it looks like. there are normally two of them. look up images of the on30 2-6-0 for placement.
