Thrift Store Makeover Madness: 10 Upcycling Home Decor DIY Projects

In this video, I purchased 10 items at the thrift store, each costing less than $5, and transformed them into unique and stylish home decor. Many of the items I upcycle can be found at almost any thrift store: outdated wall decor, candlesticks, a large bowl, an electric wall sconce, small wood decor, and more. I’ll be using a variety of techniques to transform these items into one of a kind home decor.

Why don't people realize that you can get the coolest things at thrift stores? Sometimes it only take a minimal amount of paint etc to transform an item into something spectacular. Sherry, you never disappoint! The lamp in the book is my favorite project.

Everything is beautiful as always. Here's a tip I learned from my dad. When you put brown paper on the back of a frame use a slightly damp sponge and wipe the paper to dampen it. When it dries it will be smooth and tight.

I live in Italy so it’s pretty easy to add to my collections! A couple of times a year I go to Spain to visit my sister and we always take a ride to Ahetze France where every third Sunday of the month they have a huge flea market there. Last time I was so lucky to find a Bohemian blue cut to clear vase for less than 25 dollars! It is the center of my collection! You should try and visit there!

Since blue is my favorite color I am really drawn to the blue/white frames. However, I truly appreciate your artistic ideas for transforming these items. I haven’t done anything with fans, but this idea just came to mind. You said the fan was your grandmothers, so you could make some black and white copies of photos of your grandmother and other family members and decoupage them to the fan blades. Just a thought.

The bottle u chose for the candlestick was so perfect with your pottery. Always love the butterfly!! Your medallion with the dark napkin actually look like a WORK OF ART. Something you would see in a gallery!! I thought its such an art statement - looks just like something an artist would have painted. Lol your covering all your frames shows the work of a true artist. The back of a project always finished even thou others dont see it is the sign of a true professional. The Carol Duvall show i watched was always my favorite. Try living in Australia. The op shops here (thrift stores) charge that much that sometimes it’s cheaper to go and buy new from a shop. And our craft stores or our cheap shops charge a heap more than what you guys get charged. There is one reasonable thrift store that I know of but it’s too hard for me to get to without transport. I don’t drive anymore. I live in a smaller town so very limited shops.

I don't think there's any project that you won't try. You're amazing especially when I saw you take that clock apart and figured out how to put it in a book spine. I mean WOW wow it's incredible. Even your fails end up looking fabulous! My favorite today was the leaf candlestick with the blue finial on top. It looked especially nice next to the big vase. I received my candle book and I love it. It is going in a display with a white feather owl and some potion bottles. I can't send pics of it or my birdcage, since I don't have Facebook or Instagram accounts. But I am enjoying them both so much. ❤

That dictionary lamp is unbelievable!! You have such an ingenious way to look at things to make something beautiful!! And I love BOTH of the medallions….they are just so different! One looks “Old World” and the other, “Dutch Delft!” Both are just beautiful….

I love the corner shelf! I have the same one from my Grandmother, but had no idea what to do with it, since it doesn't match my lighter furniture. Great idea! I'll have to try it when I get better at transfers. I loved the blue tiles, mostly because my eyesight is failing and I have a tough time with darker colors (can't tell the difference between brown, black, and dark navy blue). Thanks for more inspiration! I love your videos.

As a lover of blue and white (especially china), I loved the white frames better than the dark. Thank you for sharing your "boo boo" with the pretty pumpkin bowl; it helps us learn what not to do, too!
