I have heard that these excellent videos have a calming effect upon dementia sufferers undergoing what is called "sundowning" - the mysterious evening worsening of symptoms. I think the absence of background noise, useless chatter and intrusive music, and the presence of quiet, measured instruction make these videos outstanding in every way.

Furniture porn and ASMR in one channel. Genius. If you find some broyhill brasilia im gonna lose my mind. I once found a selig z chair for five bucks at goodwill and also found broyhill brasilia king bedroom set for 250 bucks. The good old days of 2009 when not everyone knew how great mid century furniture was. Now its mass produced at target and west elm. And will never compare to the quality of dovetail joints.

Nice piece. Why did you laminate particle board instead of replacing the top with solid wood?
@DashnerDesignRestoration4 жыл бұрын
The particle board lasted 50 years and will last 50 more if taken care of. Solid wood could have been used but it may eventually warp or split unlike particle board.

My guess is the cost of materials and labor combined with the cost of the piece verses what he could get for the finished product was not worth the expense of either a solid walnut board or veneer to cover a cheaper species.

Three thoughts. First, big fan on the candlelight gel stain. The walnut is lovely but when the candlelight comes out I'm like yeah bro!! Second I just realized your commentary reminds me of a comedian I love named Joe Pera. Third, there is a similarity in why I like his content and yours. I dont know how old you are but I am 30, and people my age and younger are bombarded daily with so much noise, information, pressure, bad news. The simplicity of a calming, stable moment of mundane quiet feels rare. Bringing the scale of thoughts down from the global to just.... an unremarkable forgotten table in a garage, becoming beautiful. It's a gift. Thanks ✌

Today is not a "good day to go thrifting" Dashner :( Please be safe out there with COVID! I assume you have these videos banked and have pieces queued in your garage for restore? This is half joking, but many of us need you for sanity in this crumbling world. Be careful out there and maybe do an indoor series for the next month? Tour your shop, do a stain comparison, an adhesives comparison and an updated wood stripping technique video. Call me if you want to brainstorm more :)

Last week I went to a reStore Store, a wonderful place--at least here. I thought, "It's a nice warm day in Ohio. A great day to go thrifting." and it was indeed. I got a dingy oak dictionary table for $5. The folks in the store laughed at me, probably thinking--I bet his house is filled with "junk" like that--I later thought, if they think it's that funny maybe I can get it for a buck (yes, I'm one of THOSE) Anyway, after a few minutes of cleaning and just a little sanding and Howards' Tint Finish, I have a BEAUTIFUL table in less than 2 hours. I LOVE MY TABLE.
