After mom used all the thread off a wooden spool us kids would thread yarn through it and run around the house for the cats to chase. Wooden worked better than the plastic which were too light. Definitely late 60’s to early 70’s is right on the money for switching. By mid 70’s I would have been to old to get awake running around the house even though I still played with kittens

I'm sure it is because Avon was so abundantly distributed it has low "value" now. I agree, that the powder dish was beautiful and would be wanted by many. I'm sure the low profit margin is the reason they avoid it. Nostalgia would play a big part in its "value" to someone. For me, Avon's Charisma powder dish from the 70"s brings back sweet memories of my mom. ❤

I've been "collecting" wooden spools of all sizes for years, esp. back when no one wanted them. As a quilter/sewist, the thread, if it is still on the spool, is generally not useable as it is subject to " dry rot" over time and will break very easily, so I leave the thread on for the colors, and add it to my vintage punch bowl in my sewing/craft/crap room. I also have a small antique tread cabinet that holds small spools of silk thread. Also have wooden bobbins/shuttles from the Pendleton Woolen Mills in Oregon. Antique/vintage sewing stuff would never be left behind.

If these collector plates where cheap enough, it would be nice to use them as regular dinner plates. Most of them have beautiful decorations on them, but I also would not want to put them on display. I would pick the animal and floral ones. Unfortunately I do not come across them very often here in the Netherlands, but they would look very nice with my dinner on it. 😃

My mother was the oldest of 6 kids, had 4 of her own, and she dealt with 2 of my dad's relatives living with us for a while. After her nest was empty, she became a total minimalist. She keeps nothing...zip. First time I saw her toss some very fine decades old Bible School art, I was devastated. At 67 now, I get it. I'm not a minimalist myself, but I do get it. At 84, she does still love to shop for all of us...just no thrifting or yard sales and whatever you do, no "what-not" gifts her for. She'd rather have a Whitman's Sampler and is not afraid to voice that. ✌

I still thrift and check out the sellers online that I trust, but I sit on my hands for the most part during auctions as I do not need more things in my life. So lovely to see the items though and appreciate sellers "saving" them and moving them along to people who appreciate them.
