Happy New Year!
In this video we compare 2 different cordless tools used for Post Hole Augers. We look at the Super Handy 48V auger and also use the M18 Super Hawg with a put together set-up which can have multiple uses as a high torque right angle drill etc. The Super Handy is a super disappointment and the Super Hawg is a beast. This is meant for the homeowner looking for a very convenient way to keep a large fence maintained. I understand using tractors and large equipment is much easier when available. Hope you find the video informational and thanks for watching!

I’m really glad to see you test and validate the Makita auger. I have the 18x2 Makita angle drill so I won’t waste time with a cheaper auger if/when I need to drill some holes. Great content as usual! Happy New Year!

This is awesome!!! I have about the same size yard with fencing on 4 sides that needs replaced. Tried to do it with a hand hole-digger, shovel, pick-axe, etc - just too much of a back breaker. I couldn't find anyone who had the right combination of hand power-tool/auger until now. All I could find were bulb planting augers lol. Thanks for sharing.

Great demo of the available equipment for this kind of repair. Only thing I might of done different is using double posts on gate anchor point bolted togeather with althread, 1/2 " min. Thanks for your time and efforts.Nice work!

You usually use double 6x6 on the gate or usually use double 4x4?

I bought the Ryobi 40v auger a couple of years ago and I have a small tractor with an auger. The Ryobi gets into small places much easier, and if I need just a few holes I'm out and done with the Ryobi faster than I could get the tractor auger set up and ready to begin. I had the same discussion with myself about manual post hole diggers and small engine (which would have been cheaper than the Ryobi).

The Ryobi looked like a good option as well, the only thing is early on the 40V packs were problematic. Not saying they still are since that was over 8 years ago for me. How have yours held up? The EGO 56V looks great also, but doesn't seem to be available till sometime this year. Thanks for your comment!

@@ThriftyToolShed So far so good, and no regrets other than adding another battery platform.

I think your analysis is probably right on the Superhandy. But it could also be that the battery went into some high impedance mode such that it will have the right voltage..enough to light the led's and indicate proper voltage. But it just doesn't have the current capability. I wish you had another battery to try or external power supply. The wood always rots in the ground/concrete no matter what you do. I'm thinking about some sort of steel form that you could put in there and then mount the wood into the steel form and secure with lag bolts. I don't know if they make those. This has been a very entertaining video and I didn't have to lift a finger.

I should have also mentioned that I did in fact put a 48V bench supply with current limit set to 5A and it went straight to current limit and zero volts while troubleshooting. I had forgotten I took that part out during editing to try not to go over 30 mins on the video, but I still did, lol. Thanks so much for your kind comment!

I don't know that you can get enough lateral support just bolting a post to steel above ground. There is a post sleeve product that is like heat shrink tubing and glue (or tar) that you can put on the post end before embedding. Also sometimes it seems that just putting the post in well draining soil will last longer if it has enough lateral support.

Very nice video. A lot of work. Bravo! But why put wood in concrete. I would never do that. Wood and concrete are not friends. Better to use a metal fastener and then put the wooden element in it. It is also easier to change the post later on as you don’t need to pull out the concrete from the ground which is as you know a hustle.

It's honestly just a common way it's done in the south and I am sure (now more than ever) it is a better way(s). I grew up with us using the black Creosote post and man my Dad still has some over 40 years old still in good condition. The PT post we buy today is total crap! Mine look like this rotten crud within 20 years old. Thanks for your comment!

Sir. ive used an high torque impact with some adapters for that... yes. it makes lots of noise and is slower but it wont hurt my back and my wrist... Start with a smaller auger bit... notice that plastic gear housing and the two-wire battery connection in the SuperHandy... i would NOT recommend that to anyone...

Yeah, I have done that with smaller 4" augers and such. That is really slow. It's not for me. I have the M18 high torque as shown in the video with the anchors. Thanks for your comment!
