Why do they call it a "1BOX" instead of a minivan?

Because the 1BOX has a Multipurpose Vehicle.

I was curious too, so I looked it up: Minivans like this are a "1-Box" auto body design, compared to a typical car where the engine housing, passenger area, and cargo area are discrete "boxes" that make up the chassis - that's a "3-Box" body design. I guess the name caught on to describe that type of van!
