My first ever trip to Alton Towers was with my mum back in 1995. I remember seeing Nemesis for the first time and just LOOKING at it I felt like, "No way." It would not be until 1997 where I dared Nemesis and fell in love with that coaster. Can't wait to try out the new track next week.

@@coaster_dad I was 10 years old, didnt have the balls for Thunderlooper or Corksrew that year. Did them the following year. Nemesis drink was lovely by the way. Wish they could bring it back, along with the red waterfalls.

Loved every second of that! My folks took me out of school to ride Nemesis in 1994 😅 as you mentioned, the canned pop for Nemesis, I wondered if you were going to mention the Oblivion body spray 😅

In 1994 remember we went there and was horrendous weather and electrical storms a lot of the rides closed. Got a letter to go back free any day that season.

Another great video, Thunder Looper was a quality ride, sad to see that one go but the best thing to come in the 90s was definitely Nemesis. Me & my Brother had a road trip on the opening year & got Nemesis & The Big One is the same weekend.

Thanks i have fond memories of the towers in 80s and 90s we went every year and drayton and amercan adventure too, dad used to go and paint in the gardens and let me and my older brother go around. I remember been terrified in the nemesis line by the noise but once id ridden it i was hooked. Also thunderlooper was so good, and alton mouse plus blackpool mouse made me hate all mouse coasters. That sharp ad. Maybe you can record on rides if your rich enough to visit the towers by helicopter, who was that aimed at thought that ad was stupid as a kid, i finished secondary school the year after Nemesis arrived

A bit of trivia for you: While the English Tourist Board did indeed have their 1994 "Year of the Roller Coaster" campaign, Alton Towers did not officially take part. It was missing from the ETB's challenge to ride the UK's best coasters, and if you listen carefully the park themselves very very rarely used the phrase "roller coaster" to describe Nemesis.

I rode The Mouse back in the early 90s - the safety bar wouldn’t shut whilst on the ride, my father was frantically slamming the bar until it locked just before the drop

Whoever came up with the idea of using Hall Of The Mountain King (The Wombles recorded a fabulous version in 1974 on their concept album 'Keep On Wombling') as basically Alton Towers' theme tune deserves a pat on the back and then some. Can you imagine AT now without that Edvard Greig tune? No, nor can I.

Corkscrew was my first ever rollercoaster. I had my eyes closed the whole time. I've gone a few times every year since I was born in 81 and my daughter had her first visit and 8 months so we're carrying it on....I've got cine videos of my dad there with his family in the 60s - but his family bought an ice-cream, went on a carousel and walked round the garden, then drove the two hours home!!

@heatherweeks1487 it was mine too I was 1hr 40 minutes from the park, but that's why sadly I only got to Blackpool 3 times in the 90s, and big one was broken both the second times and didn't exist the first time. Corkscrew was my first inverting coaster too, remember one time when it was ugg land and it had a literal walk on as all the lines were on Nemesis and Air, and I went on it three times in a row which felt awesome as childhood 80s memories of first not been tall enough and then long lines. My kids are just hitting 1.4m and my love of coasters never went away just my ability to go to parks did apart from the occasional thomasland at drayton or legoland Windsor trip. We just all came back from Disneyland paris and my two eldest 11 and 9 are checking if they are 1.4m every week. We hope to hit Towers in September on a school inset day, ive not been back since pre wickerman. So I have something new to ride their.

The nemesis drink was very nice. Like a cross between dr pepper and dandelion and burdock. We need coasters wars for the 20s. We really do. Bp need to do the bigger one and call it that. Alton extend and retrack oblivion and drayton do something quirky. 90s were the best years. Came often in high school. Nemesis was my first coaster of that type and when the floor went away i absolutely went white. Jelly legs getting off. Still my most extrene coaster ive rodden but thats due to the themeing and near misses i do think.

Alton Towers is Man United of Theme Parks in the Uk. Glory days of the 90s which they couldn't and do no wrong then kept it going throughout the 00s but had abit abit of a decline and questionable investmestants in the 10s and now in the 20s theyre trying get back to there glory days. On a serious note John Wardley deserves an MBE for his services in Tourism. He put Alton Towers and the entire UK Theme Park Industry on the map.

I love these series’ mate. Keep rewatching them all, I’m looking forward to the Camelot series😁👍. I never got to ride oblivion when it said don’t look down 😔. It would have made it alot more scary 😂🫣. Also isn’t oblivion technically still a vertical drop mate as i heard it was an 88 degree drop but the trains are angled/tilted 2 degrees to make up for it/counter act it ? 😊

1990 to 1996 was easily 50,50 on rides and entertainment and most of this vlog is ride based which is a shame as it doesn't capture the true magic that the towers were doing during the most magical years when it was producing the most professional entertainment they have ever done shame really as all the tv adds and news features always included the wonderful entertainment they offered during the 1990 to 1996

@@coaster_dad its a shame really they prided themselves on the entertainment only using professional actors singers skaters and shows written and produced by people who had worked for bbc variety shows and royal variety shows and had tv stars working there for some seasons , theres loads of youtube of it even coca cola sponsored characters this is great for a ride review but they worked hard to make it so magical back even advertising as the UK,s Disney in the heart of the UK , i hope i haven't affended in any it just seems the biggest part has been missed or definitely 50% of what Alton was in the90,s
