To optimize your game use actors as prefabs with hierarchical instances for lods to work. then to change color of a mesh while keeping draw calls count low just use "per instance random" or "primitive data" as scalar parameter. It's perfect with sprite sheets because completely different looking textures are the same material instance (same draw call per frame). This way you dont need another material instance so its the same draw call for all f.e containers.Characters can also be instanced if you use Vertex Animation Texture. It's all on GPU instead of CPU this way. Characters should start ticking only when needed. Check if you are CPU bound by typing r.screenpercentage to 5% to see if it's heavy on GPU and not CPU. It worked for me. GL :D

Here's another tip, use blueprint thread safe update instead of event graph in the animation blueprint. Works well when you have a more than 5 animated characters.
