I too, was struck by their connection - all the way from their meeting, to the bitter end. Bruno would literally lay down & die, if Vlad willed it. Vlad didn’t stop them at the gates of Vienna, he fought against the Ottomans in Romania, he won the first battle but lost the second in 17 June 1462. The siege of Vienna was in 1683 and the Ottomans lost the battle. The Chief Commander of the army that rescued Vienna was the Polish King, Jan Sobieski.

Very interesting. It is my humble opinion, that while Dracula seem to have been vengeful and cruel in the way he treated his opponents, he also genuinely seem to have loved the people of Romania and seem to have been tried to save them from oppression. On the other hand there has been a power struggle between the Roman Church and the Eastern Orthodox church that played a major role in this, and eventually in his demise. to me all those legends about him being a vampire, etc were created by the church, as this has been one of the ways in which they asserted control over the ignorant/unenlightened populace. In my eyes he was just a human being, imperfect, but driven to help. What I am trying to say is that the Orthodox church condemned him for a political reason, which is not based in reality. They do not have the power to condemn a person to be undead. That is my take. In any event, thank you for sharing this and shedding light on this story, and how events turned into an unreal myth.

Many new authors were on the rise as a result, some becoming very famous & wealthy, b/c they knew they could capitalize on their stories, even if the history was fictionalized.

This was superb thank you for the upload, having done quite a bit of research on the history of the subject it is a very good portrayal of events, a bit more on the Vlad's imprisonment showing the daily impalements he witnessed by the Turks through his cell window would help folks understand a bit more about him but to be a leader in the day you had to be ruthless. It’s an interesting movie but not sure how much is based on history. Apparently Vlad Tepes did exist, he was a Romanian noble at time Romania was under Ottoman rule. He rebelled against it he Ottoman Turks & was known to be particularly cruel in an era when cruelty was common. In Vlad’s time the Ottoman Empire was perhaps the greatest threat to Christian Europe. It was larger & more advanced than any Christian kingdom in that time period.

However, as they were the unrepentant invaders every time and the romanians were just defending their country, it's pretty clear to almost anyone who was in the right... Great movie! The priest who Vlad took advice from was some nasty piece of work. Imagine (in the mid 1400s) waking from a coma and the ignorance along with religion of the time caused certain people to think he had risen from the dead. Religion and superstition mixed with greed and power; poisoned everyone. Except all of the regular people of Romania whom Vlad freed. Four stars out of four for this movie. I too stand with the Romanian people. Vlad was a hero.

While the Orthodox Christian Church stood with the abusive nobles, Hungary's Catholic King funded the liberation of Romania from the Muslim Turks. Romania's Orthodox Church felt threatened by Vlad's Catholic wife and his relationship with a Catholic king. This reminds me of Cyprus's Greek Orthodox Church initially welcoming Muslims rather than accept fellow Christians aka Roman Catholics. As a result, many Greeks converted to Islam, inorder to escape being treated as second class citizens. However, many wanted to revert back to Christianity, but the Orthodox Christian Church rejected them or made it difficult for them to revert back due to the threat of Islamic retribution. These desperate reverts migrated to Catholic Sicily, inorder to become Christians once more.
