Thrive All in One Planted Aquarium Fertilizer Review
🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Today we talk about Thrive by NilocG Aquatics. It is an awesome easy to dose, all-in-one liquid aquarium plant fertilizer that has really given us amazing results in our planted tanks. We have had a lot of success with this easy to use product and so have many others in the aquascaping and planted tank world.
Thrive is especially great for planted tank beginners since it is easy to add in your tank and achieve great results. It also saves time and effort for the advanced users making it a great ready to use, easy aquarium fertilizer that takes minimal effort.
We started using NilocG's Thrive because it allows us to use one product to manage our planted aquarium where before we were using 5 or 6 different fertilizer products. This is a much more affordable alternative to the line of other fertilizers we were using and we have even seen better results from this single product.
Which Thrive aquarium fertilizer is right for your needs?
It depends. For general purpose and all PH ranges regular Thrive is recommended. For high-tech tanks with a low PH under 7 Thirve+ is recommended. For shrimp focused tanks, ThriveS is recommended as it does not increase the need for large volume weekly water changes.
Both Thrive and Thrive+ liquid all in one aquarium fertilizers contain trace amounts of copper. The amount of copper is so small that it is safe to use even in sensitive shrimp tanks. However, if your tank is shrimp only and you do smaller volume, less frequent water changes, ThriveS is suggested.
We also talk about the new Thrive formula coming out from NilocG Aquatics, Thrive for low-tech planted tanks. This version of Thrive liquid fertilizer comes with a liquid carbon additive designed especially for use in tanks where CO2 is not being added. This low-tech plant fert has been a real winner in our fish room and will soon be available for sale. It does not use glutaraldehyde as it's carbon source. We have seen amazing results using it, our moss, in particular, has become an even darker forest green since using the new low-tech version of Thrive for only a few weeks now.
If you prefer dry ferts over liquid aquariums fertilizers those options are also available through NilocG's website. They also offer CO2 equipment and other planted aquarium accessories.

I've been using ThriveC in my tanks for the past three months. My plants look really nice. The anubias are making new leaves and the Subwassertang is growing like a weed.

HI. I started using regular Thrive on my low tech. Noticed anubias melting and losing leaves in 2-3 weeks use. Any ideas? I've had the anubias for almost a year and was using Seachem products before Thrive.
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 6 жыл бұрын
Hmm not exactly sure why it would be melting. Are you using excel by any chance?
@papaross
@papaross 6 жыл бұрын
AQUA NUT Yes. I used it in combination with Seachem Flourish and Seachem Potassium before and continued to use it until I switched to Thrive. So now, just Thrive and Excel.
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 6 жыл бұрын
PAPAROSS ah ok my assumption was right. I would reccommend to stop using excel and that will fix your problem. Excel is an algaecide and though it is marked as a co2 supplement it really does not work in that fashion. It will melt your plants though. Thrive is a all in one so you dont need anything else. Hope this helps.
@papaross
@papaross 6 жыл бұрын
AQUA NUT Thank you! I was starting to blame Thrive. Although I've read many good reviews, it is the only new thing that I introduced to my tank. Are you saying that Excel in combination with Thrive is not good but OK to use with other Seachem products? Thanks again.
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 6 жыл бұрын
No excel on its own is toxic stuff and should only be used as a treatment for algae. It should onky be used in a well ventilated area and gloves should be used as well. There are some great studies out there that talk about the effects of glutaraldehyde on plants and fish. In my opinion and many others its something we should not use in our tanks period. They use this stuff to disinfect the floors and surfaces in our hospitals.

So useing thrive do you have to do a 50% water change one a week for a restart as I do a 25% in my 65gal .?.?
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 6 жыл бұрын
Its typically recommended to WC 50% to reset the values because different plants uptake different ferts at different rates...so it is about KNOWING what ratios you have in there. You can adjust that to say 30% if dosing on the light side of the scale. Hope it helps Rob

At what size tank does thrive become economically infeasible?
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 7 жыл бұрын
That is a good question Gled. I reached out to our friend Kevin from N.O.A.H.@ youtube he gave me a good answer so i will share that with you ...... The question depends on a few things. Because you can buy in bulk...ie gallon jugs of Thrive, the price goes down. It also depends on how high you are running your lights...more light means more nutrient uptake. Lower lights means more stable growth and a leaner dosing schedule. Convenience plays into it as well...not having to mix your own But even with all those things taken into account i would say that you can easily get up to 150 gallon + before it becomes less economical

Its said its for low tech planted tank, with adding non gluten base liquid carbon added into it! seems very effective and saved you on the money from buying a bottle of liquid co2 from Seachem for example.

You can totally but unless you are using it as a algaecide its pointless and just harmful to your fish and plants

couple questions, i am curious as to what you used 5 bottles of at 30 dollars per bottle that this one product replaces? that seems like a big statement to me. if you were buying $30 dollar bottles you must of been buying like gallon jugs of stuff and i am sure it would of lasted much longer than one 20 dollar bottle of thrive, second is whats with the 50% water change every week? it leads me to think if you don't do this you will be headed for disaster fast, what's in this product to require such excessive amounts of water changes? also, is this a review or is it a sales pitch, it doesn't seem so much like an actual review to me but more promoting your product
@AQUANUT
@AQUANUT 6 жыл бұрын
+Beer Drinker i used the aquavitro line from seachem, living in remote Canada shipping always ends up costing quite a bit. Also dosing a small tank was a serious pain unlike thrive with a simple pump per 10 gallons. When it comes to water changes, I keep cichlids and water changes are important. Nothing wrong with changing lots of water like some would lead you to believe. I treat my planted tanks just like my non planted tanks. I may use more Fertalizers than most due to changing more water but oh well. Thrive is a great product though and I have not heard any negative feedback on the product. That is a rare thing in our hobby as everyone has their own opinion. I am promoting this product because it works great, simple to use, shrimp safe and great reviews from so many people. If you use a different method that's cool too. I promote products I stand behind and this is one of them, you can't argue with results my tanks are growing really well.

The 50% water change is just to help remove unconsumed nutrients. Gives you a fresh start in your tank without having to test every single damn thing with test kits lol.
