Konglish (the mix of English and Korean) is typical in KPop and S Korean music in general. BTS does also have a main songwriter member (RM) who is fully fluent in English and that helps a great deal. He is one of the rappers and is the one seated at the far left at the start of this video. He is a genius (literally, 148 IQ) songwriter who writes lyric poetry inspired by philosophy, psychology, history, literature, visual arts and other things.

Also, in terms of language - Japan is a huge market for S Korean music. It’s the second biggest global music market after the US. So BTS all speak Japanese as well and put out Japanese albums with Japanese versions of their songs and at least two original Japanese songs on each of those albums as well. I highly recommend those Japanese singles, they are vocal gold! BTS has only done three all English songs (Dynamite, Butter and Permission To Dance.) All were pandemic releases designed to be mental health pick-me-ups for the world and done in English (and including sign language in PTD) to reach and help the most people. But most of their songs have layered multilingual word play. BTS has a self imposed mission to bring love and healing to the world with their music. They really are something different. You will see. Every album is a concept album (of their 20 group albums and 10 solo members albums) with tracks in a storytelling order. Some albums are in sets of 2 or 3 on a theme. Many songs are also written directly to or about ARMY. Many have layered and multiple meanings.

Yes their hand offs are so smooth, they are incredibly well rehearsed and have a known reputation for being consumate professionals when it comes to their performances. I'm so glad to hear you already appreciating the "melody" of their raps! One of the things that drew me to their music was how much diversity they have in the delivery of their flow and rap technique. It's not the same triplet monotone flows you hear from many other popular rappers. It's so colorful and yes, almost melodic! When it comes to suga's turn, people might vote in "daechwita" and I think you'd be so amazed at how an entire song can be in one single chord but he keeps you enraptured with his varying rap throughout the whole song! Anyhow, loved hearing your expertise and glad to see you smiling and enjoying it. Will definitely tune in for your next breakdown! Please don't be afraid to get geeky or technical about anything you notice and replaying multiple parts. We love that sort of thing!

This is a medley of 1 b-side per year from 2013-2021. BTS’ music never misses. Their beats, melodies, hooks, bridges - everything is just chef’s kiss. Festa is the 2 week period starting around June 1 until the anniversary of their debut on June 13. BTS releases content for fans for free almost daily during this period. It used to end with a Muster, which is a concert. Covid made that impossible for a few years. Now some members are completing their mandatory military service, so they are focusing on solo work.

BTS make their own music that’s why they could perform it smoothly and perfectly. Aside from hours of practice, they also write the lyrics and compose the melodies that’s why they know how to express the song that captivates and pulls their audience. When they record a song, each vocalist sang the same verse to better determine which part suit each one of them. The rappers usually write their own verse or one of them write the whole song and the other rapper just rap their part. JK the youngest, the one with purple hair is the youngest and the center and main vocal of the group. Jin the other vocalist is the oldest. V the one wearing green shirt with the green mic is the second youngest and has the soulful baritone voice but could still hit the highest of notes. While Jimin with the blond hair and green vest, the one with the solo song you reacted to is the third youngest and has the highest vocal range.

It is common in kpop and many other countries as well to mix in English lyrics to bring in International fans; sometimes other languages such as Spanish are used. Many times groups release songs in multiple languages such as Japanese Chinese and English. 💜

Right but BTS, particularly RM, have talked many times about how English words and Spanish words are mixed in specifically because they may sound better or better express what they are trying to say. BTS members write, compose, and produce most of their songs from their beginnings. They collaborate with in-house and outside writers, composers and producers. While RM and Suga have written/produced the most songs, all seven members have done so as well. Their lyrics are often deep and profound, touching on subjects like mental health, social issues, self awareness and acceptance, the many colors of love, hope and pain…. All of it. There are videos on KZbin that cover their journey and explain who each member is and how they work together as a team. Be prepared to be amazed. Sorry to all the talented western singers out there, but few have the foresight, dedication, passion, talent, and tenacity of these seven guys and their label. This is why they surpass typical K-Pop.
@sharonnelson3713 Жыл бұрын
Btw, all these songs are their B side songs. I really enjoyed your reaction to the 2021 Festa. Festa and or Muster is something they do every year on the anniversary of their debut. It’s a gift to the army. I’m sure many have commented that BTS members are either serving their mandatory military duties or planning to enlist by the end of this year. All members will be finished by June , 2025 and plan to come back as BTS. All of the members are involved in the process of making music. They write, compose and produce. The distribution of the lyrics are mostly decided among themselves, even sacrificing some of their part to another member whose voice may fit better. There are no ego trips with the members and we armies support all 7 members. We don’t compare any members. There is a term in K-pop “bias” and when you connect with a certain member more than others that person becomes your bias. I look forward to your next reaction to BTS.

It’s normal to stay smiling when watching and listening to BTS. Glad you understand why we are so fond of our guys. @Maraaha55 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for exploring BTS more with the Festa. I apologise in advance for this comment - it's LoooooNG! So I hope you don't mind! Festa is an annual party gifted to ARMYs to celebrate the anniversary of BTS' debut: it is usually about a week long with various different events. Smiling for an unusual period of time is basically the BTS effect - your face will be sore! And, indeed BTS do so many different genres so well that there is something for everyone. If you, as a non-rap duo, enjoyed Ugh, you'll enjoy everything! ARMY was named in July 2013 shortly after BTS debuted - it is an acronym standing for Adorable Representative MC for youth (which I hate a bit). It was chosen deliberately to resonate with BTS Korean name 'Bangtan Seonyeondan' - which means Bulletproof Boyscouts, and to reflect the BTS philosophy and purpose. BTS wish to stand in support of Korean young people on whom demands, expectation and criticism rain down like bullets, and to support their beliefs and values in the face of much lack of understanding and denigration from others. This was their philosophy from before debut, and everything they have done since is rooted in this mindset. RM once suggested an alternative interpretation for the name ... A-reum-da-woon Mi-seong), or “Beautiful Voice/s”. Now THAT, I do like. Some comments you made ... “Has Kpop always mixed English lines with Korean?” I'm not certain but I think that in Kpop BTS was the first group to use English lines with Korean as much. Now it's common - in fact probably everyone does it. “Interesting layering and unpredictable use of chords/harmonies - every song has an interesting chord progression” … I'm 68 and now pretty deaf - in fact I suspect that perhaps I have had slight deafness all my life. But it means that I now also realise that many characteristics of music are lost to me, and thus I can't get a lot of the harmony/sophistication of BTS' work. It's interesting for me, then, when people are able to unpick it without going so far as to absolutely lose me. You got it about right here. Thank You. Thankfully, BTS is so multi-talented that they genuinely have something for everyone: for me, I love that people can celebrate the musicality and production values, but the lyricism and dance creativity are very important. “Keeping every band member happy” - actually BTS don't, they do what is best for the music, and there is no ego. Sometimes solo stans (people who really/mainly like one member) might get upset when they think their favourite has been left out either from singing or choreo - but actually the member doesn't care. They are dedicated to making the best music and performance, without prejudice. One relatively recent song, On, has very difficult choreography: so difficult that one member who is diffident about his dance skills, arranged to start learning the routine a week before the others. There is one point in the routine where a dance break involves two sets of three, omitting Jin: Some stans complained about unfairness. I just think, OK, that's probably just respectful to Jin who is actually breaking his back to do a great performance and was perhaps even glad of the (very brief) break. No criticism from BTS for Jin at any point, just honest understanding and appreciation, and serving the performance. “Hooks all over this, melodies all over the place”: yep. That's BTS all over the shop! To be honest I am surprised when people even notice, because it's … just like breathing. “Well rehearsed” - yes, they are. They have been working (and living) together for between 10 and 13 years (depending on when each joined as trainees), and they are known for their hard work. They train and practice for up to 10 hours (or more) a day - well, perhaps more for new material. Since they also sing and dance live, they sing while running or wear oxygen reduction masks when training. They do have an uncanny sense of their space and stage - and incredible stage-craft. I think you would love to watch their live performances - really NOT like rock, and perhaps a lot in common with musical theatre. On Kpop (which is not so much a genre but an industry) - “Suga, asked about whether Kpop would be an accurate definition of BTS' genre, said ‘I’m a little bit wary of that but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be “integrated content”.’ … ‘Kpop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach Kpop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.’ Metro 28 10 2919” Ugh is a rap song written by the rappers, and (like most of their work) is pretty deep, including references that non-Koreans will miss - DKDKTV's 'Ugh explained by a Korean' video is well worth a visit. Several other songs benefit from such fan-made explanation videos and they are all well worth watching! Some songs appear happy little mindless 70's reminiscent bops - they're not. But they are still fun! “Not a Rap Guy” - BTS rap is not like American rap - it is always thought provoking and deep, addresses significant issues (not just sex, conspicuous consumption, and aggression) and leaves a positive note. BTS' humour and fun is shown here, but it's not always easy to catch details - but I love how they love to perform! They get sad when they can't do so. I think you'd love some of their live performances. I mean, THIS is live, but there is no audience and the audience seems to triples the energy! I'm not going to suggest songs/tracks to listen to for you - many others will give you plenty! I AM going to repeat a suggestion from another ARMY. I tend to suggest people spend some time listening to the music first, but I feel it's time for you to watch Taylor Mari's Guide to BTS Members - the Bangtan Seven. It will tell you very briefly some of the history and achievements, the range of their musical style, and introduce each member and their individual achievements. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqa5kKx_md2Nhrs

As a newer fan I would like to agree with all of the recommendations here. I have a music background so what you are discovering with the complexities and the jazz influences are things you will find in a lot of their music - particularly the music written by them and their team, less so with songs written by western songwriters. You do need to watch them sing and dance live. Their breath control and vocal stability while doing crazy intense choreography is amazing.

Your comment about BTS not actually doing things to keep every member happy was spot on, that's what I came to comment too! But you worded it perfectly. People tend to not realise until they get a deeper dive into BTS that they themselves do everything for the music because none of them have an Ego surrounding their music creation with eachother. It is such a fresh breath of air in music. Even when they all come up with parts for a song but only one members gets chosen because it's better for the song, they just show it to us separately and love the main song as is. It's so wholesome and driven by their love of art, music, and performance.

I do disagree about it not being like Rock though. As someone who came from Rock and Metal, Rock and metal are in huge parts, about theatrics, stage presence, as well as an outpuring of energy. I have said for ages That BTS really are Rock stars in their own right. Run BTS, Outro: Tear, Fake love... J-Hope at Lollapalooza! Yoongi's Agust D D-Day tour! Etc etc.. there are so many performances that bleed the essence of rock even if the song isn't entirely classified as such. So many times I have finished watching a performance and said "They are such f**king Rock stars" or "Damn, that was so f**king metal" It's in part because they are such genre benders 💜

Hi guys, at 53 years old I have known BTS for a little more than one year and the trip is extremely pleasant. K-pop does not cover just one genre but many and BTS at the same time explores many more genres than k-pop does not only in Korean but in English and Japanese with the best results. Also, her interpretative, vocal and stage quality is not greater than the quality, depth and commitment of her lyrics. I haven't found a single theme that I don't like from them yet and I'm still looking. I feel like the icing on the cake is that each of the members have a deep affection and gratitude for their fans and never take them for granted. And the affection, respect and admiration between each member plus their love for this life as BTS is what has taken them so far despite always going through criticism, hatred, boycotts, contempt and harassment from the greats at every step. media, other music companies and others. They really have more than paid for the place they occupy in the hearts of millions of followers. Thank you for your reactions and respect for BTS who, as you will discover, for many, is much more than a band of cute boys who sing and dance. Many have literally saved our lives (I am one of them). Thank you. Del from Argentina. (I hope the translator has translated my words correctly.)

So fun to watch you two get turned on to BTS. I was born 1960 and raised on the greats: Beatles, Who, Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd... Discovering BTS was a musical re-birth for me. Learned to love rap for the first time. Please do yourselves a favor and pay attention to their lyrics. RM, SUGA and J-hope are masterful poets, lyricist and rhymers (in both English and Korean.). Keep watching and listening to ARMY - we will take you on a magical tour.

Greetings from Brazil 👋

If you guys are also interested in the live band behind BTS, then maybe the Tiny Desk concert from NPR is a good choice for next ? Of course the Taylor Guide to learn about the members and how BTS started is always a given... it's long, but Army don't mind.. however many times we watch it ... also it's common to react to it uncut... there isn't usually a problem with having to edit... 💜

BTS are my favorite group in my life time. I am 62. I love 90s music! They had fun with this! Btw...they are not just talented as a group, each one have their individual projects/music. They have over 300 + songs...and dozens if genres. They are unique! They have variety shows that make you laugh til you cry. You get to know each of their amazing and fun personalities. They are ambassadors for multiple fashion designers. They have been to the White House as speakers. So involved in so many things it unbelievable. They are genuine and down to earth.

Most of BTS' songs are Korean with a mix of English. However, they also have Japanese songs (Film Out, or Your Eyes Tell, LIVE version with subtitles is best). Also, they made 3 all-English songs during the pandemic as feel-good songs. They are Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance. Right now, since mid-2022, they are doing solo activities as they either have enlisted or are enlisting in mandatory military and are expected to re-group in late 2025/2026 timeframe. If you want to do solo works, try these recent ones: RM: WIldflower (there is an MV). He also performed solo for Tiny Desk Concerts performing some of his solo works. His whole album "Indigo" is a masterpiece. He is the leader of BTS (though not the oldest) and has a birthday September 12th (he'll be 29), and also the Main Rapper. J-Hope "More" or "Arson" - He headlined at Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2022 as solo artist (Dance Leader, Rapper, and Vocalist). He was the 2nd to enlist, in April 2023. Jin: "The Astronaut" - collab with Coldplay, there is an MV and he also performed it Live in Argentina with ColdPlay. Jin was the first to enlist in Dec 2022. (Vocalist) Jimin: Recent works are "Set Me Free Pt 2" and "Like Crazy". He is a Main Dancer (contemporary) and Vocalist. I think you already did Set Me Free Suga: Recent Album is D-Day. There are MV's for Haegeum and Amygdala. Those 2 songs are tied to an earlier song/MV called Daechwita. Suga/aka Agust D recently finished a 28+3 solo concert tour worldwide. He is a Rapper and Producer primarily. Suga (real name Min Yoongi) is expected to enlist 3rd - he announced immediately following his last concert in early August. Jung Kook: Released his single solo song called "SEVEN" featuring Latto - it's all in English. There is an MV, and a Performce Video which features the "explicit" version. Written and produced in the US by Andrew Watt, Cirkut (sp), and another 2 people. An earlier solo while in BTS is Euphoria (Live, while flying through the air) or Still With You (the latter one he wrote). He is expected to release another single and a mini-album by sometime in November this year. Also, he is the youngest and just turned 26 on September 1st. He has been BTS' "Main Vocalist" and a Lead Dancer since the age of 15 (international age). That basically means he sings most of the vocal guides for the others to learn their parts from. If you want to learn more about that Ida S channel has a video called Jung Kook as the Main Vocalist of BTS (2023 update). Oh, he also sang the song Dreamers at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony. There is also an MV for that. V (real name Kim Taeyhung) and often called Tae: Just released 2 solo songs "Love Me Again" and "Rainy Days" which both have MV's. He's the jazz lover in the group and has more of a baritone voice, but has crazy high range too. His mini album of 6 songs is coming out on September 8th. I hesitate to put each person's specialties, because at this point, they all dance (but 3 or so better than the others), they all can rap (watch Ddaeng, performed by Vocal Line, with rappers there also that normally perform it), they all can sing, they all write, compose, and produce songs (some more and better than others). The rap line (RM, Suga, J-Hope) have done most of the writing and composing, along with in-house staff that also produce, but more recently the others started doing all those things too. They continue to learn and improve themselves to this day. I suggest watching Outro: Tear live performance with subtitles (the one that is green lights on stage and black outfits) - rap line only. Also, for Vocal Line only, I suggest a) House of Cards - live with subtitles, and/or b) The Truth Untold (also live with subtitles). For songs by the entire group - to get your feet wetter: 1) Black Swan 2) ON Kinetic Manifesto Film 3) Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) 4) Fake Love 5) Idol 6) Black Swan All of this is just the tip of the iceberg, or the top of the well - however you want to see it. lol I'm in the US and an older citizen in my 60's. I found BTS in May 2021, became full-fledged ARMY soon after. There is so much positive to be said about these 7 young men from South Korea; my respect and adoration for them is Huge! Hope you'll continue to enjoy them. Last, I can't help with what is standard in K-Pop because I really don't watch or listen to any of the other groups. I have heard that most, though not all, do Not write their own music. If that is the case, BTS is definitely different than the rest. They are incredible!

Thank you guys for such a great reaction and for giving our boys a chance. Each one of the members are unique in their own way and have their own style but together they form this awesome group V the one in the green shirt loves R&B and jazz. You should check out some of his solo work singularity, stigma live, is one where you can see his different range because he is the baritone of the group. There are so many different genres that they sing so I think you’ll find something that you truly like. They all live together up to two years ago, where they all got their own places. So that’s why they have the fluidity as you say when they sing. They know each other very well. There are too many songs that I like to give you a recommendation, but whatever it is that you watch, I will watch. Thanks again guys! If you like the vocal line, check out the truth untold 0 o’clock and house of cards. If you’d like to rap line, check out the cyphers. They have three full songs in English only the rest are a mix of Korean and English and they also have songs in Japanese!

Hello guys, very good, beautiful and pleasant reactions to Jimin's Like Crazy, and Room Live, although it goes without saying that it is just a mouth opener, because what comes to them will blow their heads. BTS has over 300 songs, not counting their solo albums, collaborations, and covers. In the beginning they were cut off from broadcasting, which led them to make and upload their own variety show, with various content, with which they would have a lot of fun. Currently 4 of them released solo albums (J-Hope, RM, Jimin and Suga), the next one will be V, and then Jungkook, and leaving the Military Service Jin will release his album. I love that they had fun and liked BTS' work, even more so when they write, compose, produce and participate in the entire process of their work, whether it is just a song, albums, MV, design, photos, etc., along with others. collaborators and their staff. If you have been surprised with so little, I want to see you when you see your concerts, analyze your lyrics, your content and depth, not to mention all the content on your channel. I am a K-Poper mom, and ARMY, 47 years old, and it is unheard of that this group, with the oldest being 30 and the youngest just turning 26, are able to heal so many wounds, and teach us life lessons, with a comment, a song... Hay could say so much... This journey is one of no return, and I will follow every reaction the boys make, thank you very much for giving them a chance on your channel. A thousand love from Chile. I am desensitized with YT reactors who obviously create BTS-related content for the clout, but oh boy...I am glad I watched this video. This is by far the most objective BTS reaction I've watched. You reacted to one of my ultimate fave videos and was on point with a lot of things! 1. Namjoon, rapping style at 05:47 really is full of confidence. He is a well-educated musician, esp hip-hop. 2. How you understand the effective line distribution between the members at 08:52. The producers are indeed geniuses in trying to balance and find the perfect performer in each line, but it's also the band's chemistry that makes that obvious and natural. They let each other shine and celebrate each member's win. 3. 10:09 I'm super thrilled that a non-ARMY recognized that a Taekook subunit is heavenly! 4. How at 11:45 our li'l sunshine captured your attention with his undeniable stage presence and talent 5. 12:28, you immediately know that they have performed this several times without actually watching them perform. You understood the quality of their performance and see right through their passion for their craft. 6. 13:32 careful with this one. We have a saying in the fandom "once you Jimin, you cannot Jimin out" 😅. 7. 15:39 I am equally amazed how engaged and entertained I am with the rap line. Their parts in each of their songs fit perfectly, and was never unnantural nor forced. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I think this is my fave reaction since I joined the fandom. I really and truly hope you continue to enjoy their music and craft.

Thanks for being open to something new! 💜 Your analysis and reaction style was fun and engaging. You were spot-on about the jazz elements; their live band members at this time called Ghost Band were/are involved in the jazz scene and the band leader, stage name DocSkim, is a Korean American jazz artist and producer. He has worked on some of BTS' most loved songs. In fact, DocSkim was getting so burnt out by the music industry around the pandemic that he considered retiring... until BTS' leader, RM, asked DocSkim to help him produce the lead single for his solo album. That song renewed DocSkim's passion for his craft. The song is called "Wildflower" by RM. I recommend it! Especially considering RM is part of the rapline but chose to sing and rap-sing during that song expressing his vulnerability. He also features a female Korean rock artist on the track.
@JanB-qm2bi Жыл бұрын
I agree! I also suggested Wildflower and then Taylor's guide.

What you are quickly coming to understand is actually an important point. That K-pop is not actually a genre of music. K-pop is a nomenclature that simply means Korean popular music and therefore includes many different musical genres and styles. There are some songs all in English, some all in Korean, some all in Japanese. Most of their music combines Korean and English and sometimes Japanese and English and yes to combine languages is very common throughout K-pop. I know you two are mostly music guys both vocally and instrumentally. But as you get further into their music lyrics will be just as important. Lyrics are very important to ARMY and BTS because often the meaning of their lyrics on the surface may seem like one thing but they are often multi-layered in their meaning and purpose.

it is actually common for kpop songs to mix in some english lyrics in between. groups also usually release albums with their songs in their japanese version, and also separate singles in japanese and in english. i think it would be helpful to know too that in bts albums they may be some only vocal unit songs, some rap unit songs and some solo songs (besides the solo work each individiual member has been putting out and some coming up reallly soon!), all of this added to the fact that in kpop you will find variiiiiiiied genres not only pop, so its a fun rabbithole to go down to. your content is really cool and i can't wait to see more of it applied to the group i love!! also cant wait for you to dwelve into de music writing since they work on the production of their own work too! when you mentioned the chord progression in Telepathy it made me reallly happy since that is a Suga's song and it would be cool to know a little more about whats behind it. anyways, looking forward to more videos!

Thank you for reacting to this, it's a very fun performance. I've watched it a lot of times and am still smiling constantly as you both did! 😊 Also thank you for noticing my last comment under reaction to _Like Crazy_ video! I hope my essay wasn't too long. As you mentioned at the beginning - we fans want to be seen (and want the BTS to be seen) as something more than a mindless fandom of another pop boyband. We try to let the world know how much diversity, intelligence, kindness and positivity there is in the fandom and why BTS is a big part of our lives, how they managed to become our favourites. That's why we try to leave informative, positive and diverse commentary instead of shallow one. I won't share many informations this time around since many other armies definitely did that already. To answer your questions: 1. Yes, it's a common thing in kpop to mix english words and phrases into the songs and have that kind of back-and-forth with it. It is mainly done for the songs to sound "cooler" and to attract international audience that can have more fun with the song if there is some familiar part or an easy hook they can sing along. However, in many kpop songs that "easy english hook" often becomes too much to the point of being ridiculous... Which I personally don't enjoy. I haven't met that in BTS' songs, fortunately. Usually there are simple words and phrases incorporated into the mostly-korean songs but often there are whole choruses or verses sung in english, again because of the international audience that is targeted and to let the song enter into Western music market. It depends on the band/group but they usually stick to the korean language. In BTS' case - they have a few songs entirely in english, many songs with english parts but they mostly stick to their native korean with a little bit of those english inserts. Fans tend to enjoy korean songs more because members can express themselves with more ease and we don't want them to feel pressure to speak/sing/rap in english. Also when they have songs in korean they also have deeper, more beautiful lyrics (they write most of their songs themselves). They don't have albums entirely in english and probably never will. They have a few albums in japanese though since Japan is the biggest market for kpop music (these are mostly japanese versions of their korean songs with a few japanese singles). 2. I don't know which instrument that is in "UGH" but it's definitely some asian instrument. They like to incorporate asian instruments and asian-style musical elements into their songs. That's another thing that makes their music stand out from the vast sea of pop music. Their korean roots and influences give them a unique sound and it brings those unusual melodies, chords, instruments, sounds and ideas. Thank you for making a video with musical breakdown. I learned something new and it's a big pleasure to see more sophisticated reaction to their music than simple "it's cool/it's awesome" reaction. 😉 I will definetely watch more if you'll make a deep content like that. Have a nice day, borahae 💜

Welcome to the Rabbit Hole! ("I just want to know their names!"). You spoke about the production assigning each member a part and how hard that is for keeping everyone happy. In BTS, first, they are known for being super humble and no egos get in the way with them. Second, their producers have been with them for a long time and know their voices intimately. And some of the members produce the songs too. They work hard to assign the vocal parts that fit each singers voice for that line. It is difficult to do as I'm sure you know, but they do an amazing job of it in every song! The "guy with the purple hair" is none other than JK (Jungkook). He is their lead vocalist and does the vocal guide for each new song so the members know how to start new songs. You nailed his vocal style saying he has a breathy, airy voice using his headvoice and falsetto. He can do it all - he excels at singing covers and has done many on KZbin (Paper Hearts/Purpose/We Don't Talk Anymore/Falling/10,000 Hours). I can only listen to his versions of Purpose and Falling now! He is also known for being able to keep a steady voice during their lengthy concerts (2.5 hrs) because he sings while running on a treadmill! Glad they kept you guys smiling!! Borahae!!

The BTS Army is strong. Many of us have been with the group since their debut, me included. I have every album they have released as a group and some of their solo albums. I will tell you this now, once you Jim-in you can’t Jim-out. BTS is such a tight knit group and they love their fans deeply, there are millions of us here ready to support them every step of the way. I’m so happy to see more people listen and see there is more to kpop than meets the eye. Here are some facts. BTS is a seven member group that debuted in 2013. They have 3 rappers and 4 singers. The rappers are RM (Namjoon, the leader of the group), J-Hope, and Suga. The singers are Jimin, Jungkook, V, and Jin. Every member is extremely talented, and as you’ll soon see, they can all dance VERY well. Kpop idols go through intense training before their debut, and that includes dance training since almost every song has a dance routine to go with it. They often dance while performing live, which is extremely difficult considering the dances they come up with are complex and require a lot of movement. Also yes, you’re right, a lot of kpop songs have English mixed in, but not every kpop song fits this bill. There are plenty of kpop songs that are all in Korean. As for BTS, most of their songs have some English, but they also have songs that are in all English as well as all Korean.

16:04 BTS rapline sonically is pure eargasm! RM said once that he really pays attention how words hit ear. They are incredible. My favourite bts song is Tear by rapline of bts, this is some orchestral trap hip hop sonic and lyrical.masterpience if i ever seen one Also that sound you liked that descended in original i oriental type of sound, BTS uses traditional sounds in their hip hop songs - Ddaeng, Ugh, also in solo work as Deachwita, Haegum by Suga

Recommending a BTS song is a near impossible task. 😂 Honestly, there are so many different styles and genres in their discography that it's very hard to pick only one. As you go through the video and comment on different things my thoughts are all over the place. "Uh... I like jazzy progressions." Man, you should listen to House of Cards or Jungkook's solo work Still With You or V's nearly any song... "I like his voice, it has a grit to it." you said about J-hope. Wait until you see his Lollapalooza headlining concert! Every comment you made took me down on an other recommendation list in my head. 😂😂

I was never into rap until BTS. I went to Suga's solo concert in Chicago and it was amazing!!!! Not only can he rap, but Suga can also sing. It's a good idea to check out the lyrical videos first so you understand what the song is about. Then do the music videos, dance practice, and a live performance. Their band is amazing live.

Loved the reaction! It's always great to see people respectfully listen to them and your comments about the musical theory side of it were very interesting! I don't know much about that so it's always nice to hear what people who do think of their music About the Korean-English question: it's very common when it comes to songs in other languages to have English words or phrases either because they sound better or express the lyrics better. BTS usually sprinkles English words in all their songs and they have only three songs that are fully in English (Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance), and quite a few songs in Japanese too Rap in almost every song is sort of a Kpop thing as far as I'm aware (I've only listened to BTS since I discovered them in 2016 but the other Kpop songs I've heard once in a while seem to always have rap, I could be wrong thou), but you should know they also have songs with only the vocalists (vocal line) and only the rappers (rap line) I'd love to see what you think of Black Swan (it sounds very classical), Dionysus (it's rock mixed with EDM if I'm not mistaken), Fake Love (although they have a rock version, the original isn't and I'd recommend watching that first), Blood Sweat and Tears (this is a big favourite for me and I honestly just want to know what you'd think), and ON Kinetic Manifesto I'd recommend you watch A Guide to BTS Members by Taylor if you wanna know more about them and maybe have some extra context. Thou it's quite a long video, we ARMYs love long reactions! Feel free to pause anytime since there's a lot of information to absorb Sorry for the long comment! Edit: I forgot to mention but Kpop is more like an industry as a whole rather than a specific genre, like if you were to react to actual Korean Pop Also, please remember to turn on captions when reacting to anything else that doesn't automatically have captions on screen. It seems very obvious but you'd be surprised at how many reactors never turn the captions on and just end up confused when the MVs don't show what the song is about in a straightforward way! Meaningful lyrics are a big part of why BTS' songs are so well liked Also, I'm guessing you want to react to their solo work to better analyze each of their voices? It's not a bad idea for sure but I do recommend you listen to their songs that involve all the members. I've found that whenever people think of BTS as a boyband they expect them to have only one main member and the rest to be like fillers or something. I don't quite understand why but I'm not familiar with the concept of boybands to begin with, so maybe that's why

Thanks for the reaction! I'm a Gen Xer myself, so I know where you're coming from with the 80s love. I was never a huge rap fan before I heard BTS, but as you said yourself, their rap is melodically interesting as well as rhythmically complex. (It also contains a lot of clever, often multilingual, wordplay). They often tackle societal and emotional issues that many artists shy away from, but they also make light, fun, poppy songs (sometimes both at once). BTS's roots are very solidly in hip-hop, but they've run the gamut of genres, including rap, rock, EDM, Latin, funk, pop, trap, jazz, ballads, R&B and even nods to classical contemporary and traditional Korean music. (Arguably, they've even touched on country with "Am I Wrong.") (As their rapper, songwriter, and producer, Suga, said in their Grammy interview, "I think it's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now. The genre is BTS. That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre." They've been on the scene for over 10 years now, so their catalog is deep and vast.

This was a great choice of starting video. Keep it up and enjoy the trip - you will never regret it. Solo recs: RM - Wildflower Jin - Awake SUGA- a/k/a AgustD - Daechwita J-Hope - Daydream Jimin - you did one, but you need Serendipity V - Love Me Again Jungkook - Still With You

The boys of BTS are a group of perfectionists (as well as the team behind them) ... they will surprise you with any song you listen to from their repertoire ... Both the vocalists and the rappers are phenomenal ... each of them have exceptional solo projects but when they sing together they are unbeatable and phenomenal...

I just found your channel and I loved this reaction! I'm 40 years old, I'm from Argentina, have two daughters, youngest introduced me to BTS back in 2018 and my journey as a BTS ARMY started there, fell through the rabbit hole mostly because I became obsessed with The Truth Untold, which is a song from the vocal line, I always recommend that one, but I agree with other comments that you should check out Taylor's introduction to the Seven members first! My whole life I have listened to rock music, these seven men made me love hip-hop, jazz and many other genres bc of their diverse discography. And as someone else also said, they're rock stars! Their stage presence is unmatched, the energy while performing live and the engagement with the audience is unbelievable. Thank you so much for this reaction! Borahae! 💜💜💜

thanks for your reaction and breaking down the tones and notes~ glad you guys enjoyed this medley, it’s one of my favorite live performances of BTS. there’s just something about their music that really transcends and makes you feel a lot of emotions, and in this case, it’s kept you guys smiling for at least 10min 😆 that’s an amazing thing~^^ BTS do have a big discography and a wide range of genres they’ve done. there’s a lot and i can’t really suggest any one music video for you guys to watch. i’ll just say watch them all~😂 if you guys are interested in checking out their live performances, i’d suggest their MMA or MAMA performances. oh and their grammy performances too. they also did a few covers, like Coldplay’s Fix You.
