These types of games don't shine due to their combat style, but the experiences you have in their other game mechanics. This is how old Lineage 2 was, this is how Ashes of Creation will be. Combat isn't really the problem (needs some fixing but is not that serious). The problem is everything else, and we still don't know how much p2w the store will be in the west.

It will get crazy later on with alliance system and hostile. You can ally with 10+ guilds, each one 50-70 members max. The best alliance will monopolize world bosses. :) Join good guild end game.

For those of who never played the old Lineage 2, what you see in this video is what the wars were like, except these guerrillas were happening more frequently. They were the bread and butter if you were in a mid-high lvl clan. Good ol times

Yup yup, this was an all out war during the last day 2 hours of the test preventing other guild from getting boss. It will be larger scale later when on release and bigger alliances, since there might be a cap of 10+ per alliance/hostility. We were in ally with 7 guilds 50-70 max members cap.

That’s actually a quite chill war for a boss, usually the top dominant guild had to defend the boss from 3-4 other guilds of not a whole alliance with their own ally. Was frenetic good old official times I’m a c1 player until classic, passes through Goddes and emerging. And for sure I’ll play this game too. Already looking for a good community organising guilds/CPs

The pc specs are not listed. So it could also be a very powerful pc which the most of us dont have. Also its a video where movement in general looks smoother. And the effects are also pretty rare for an mmo. But you are right that it runs better than some other games ncsoft have.

This honestly looks great for true Lineage fans, sadly a lot of people are going to bomb it with bad reviews thinking this was supposed to be a BDO style MMO. When clearly, they just wanted to make a cleaned up and polished version of MMO's from the 2000's era. I'll definitely give this a shot when it launches in the west.

I liked that barrier around the boss area, but I would like it more if the resurrection timer in PvPvE areas was longer, or if you couldn't fast-travel THAT close to the event area, in order to make it possible to unofficially "win the rights to the boss" or allow the winning party a few moments to recover before the next zerg.

Archeage and WOW has that sure but only on some skills. not 92% of their entire skill pool. their gameplay loop might be pretty lack lustering compared to BDO. but least you could move and cast!

I think the most damage gets the loot? That's why in later end game big guild alliances will control most of the world bosses because they are PvP. You need a good in the endgame.

Only thing better compared to bdo is that you have a clearer view of the enemies numbers and stuff doesn't suddenly pop out when in close range... basically better engine. Everything else looks inferior, including the combat. Too bad they decided to go with a really bad version of tab targeting, but i don't think there is a netcode that can properly support zerg action combat, even bdo is doing a horrible job with it. You will experience desync even when 1vs1. Imo, the perfect mmorpg is something like bdo with better refined action combat, better engine (UE5), better netcode, less grinding/annoying p2w stuff and more group activities.

zerg combat is fine. but because BDO isnt on UE5 it means it cant handle it very well. its taken us so long to just get a good engine to handle mass scale combat for MMO's but its not being put to better use. BDO still looks fantastic but its getting outdated at this point. only reason why everyone is bailing from this game is because of the crappy hard locked tab target gameplay.

Hardly disagree. Even with consistent FPS, it's impossible to achieve a great combat with large scale battles through action combat. Some attempts have been done even before BDO (which fails miserably) like TERA, and didn't achieve a good feeling in large scale. The ones which gets close to be decent are GW2 and ESO, which, by the way, have hybrid combat (half tab target + half action). Oldschool tab-targeting combat MMORPGs, like Lineage 2, Ragnarok, Rising Force, *focused* in large scale battles have pull off successfully the massive combat (with bad engines btw) because they knew the key features to achieve. Not only FPS optimization, but clean view of battlefield, group movement, and positioning. These aspects allow to have better understanding of situations and strategic decisions making, which leads to a good feeling of massive combat, which leads to fun. To critize properly a game it's needed to understand what does it propose to achieve. BDO proposes dynamic fast-paced combat FOR PvE mostly, and 1v1 to 3v3 at most. Beyond that, it's just a cluster fuck with people jumping lighting speed back and forth getting tons of cc out of nowhere. T&L proposes to achieve large scale battles effectively, for that, you *need* a grounded normal-paced combat, which makes the PvE and 1v1 situations more boring, but shines the more people participating in it. It's non-sense and dishonest to compare two games in the same genre that have different purposes in respect to a feature - in that case, combat. And far from defending T&L as a whole. The game still needs much improvement, mainly in respect to auto-combat/hunting.

@@mattgenaro I like the references to large-scale PvP in ESO, GW2, but in BDO, Node Wars Tier 1 only, I felt that they hit the nail on the head when it comes to balanced gameplay. I averaged 20+ kills and under 5 deaths for over 20 Node Wars, and it looked and felt great. However, I am playing on a 3080, so it could be biased... What are your thoughts on this game? I respect your opinion on games based on your list... I'm still going to play. I feel that the only negative is not being able to move and auto-attack or press abilities, and they could fix that before release.

Yes, the experience is the same deny enemy guilds from getting boss and let your guild and alliance get it. No enemy guild allowed to get loot. Later on, if there is an OP guild they will probably prevent other players non-guild from tagging hitting boss.

Autoplay in this game is primarily for farming mats and slow afk experience. Watching top Korean players the meta was centered around active group play hunting elites, world events, and area bosses. Autoplay is basically a noob trap for people that don't know how to play these kinds of games.

Man’s got a point. Everyone guzzles FFXIV duck butter for every little thing they do, when the combat is basically the same as this. FFXIV just gets a pass because the icing on the same cook looks better. Not a winning point for me though, because I absolutely despise everything about FFXIV’s design. The social elements and friends are the only thing that kept me playing, or consider going back. I’d rather eat my own face than sit through simon says mechanics again, that are pure memory trial and error, and zero skill.

I wonder how this gameplay managed to pass the approval of the team and testers. I understand the intention to appeal to fans of old-school MMOs, but in my opinion this is awful. The mechanics of older MMOs were mainly a result of technical constraints rather than intentionally designed for enjoyable gameplay. It's sad, i don't think i will play it if it stays like that.
