What are those purple orbs that rotate around your character for or do?

Those are just one of the boss’s skills. When you get hit with his purple laser, you'll get those orbs. They’re more like an indication that you’ve accumulated stacks. You’ll explode when your stacks reach 30.

You mean when the boss breathes on you? You just need to aim the boss's mouth at the horns on the back where you can also see the yellow eyes. Aim for the very first horn that has an eye. When the boss is about to release his breath, you can start moving until you pass the last horn that has an eye. I actually have a video of it. I'm actually not the only one reducing our party's skill cooldowns. We had 4 Longbows in our party, and they also use Deadly Marker, which is why our skill cooldowns are much faster.
