Good to hear Quinn explain the reasons you would replace / upgrade the radiator with the heat cycles and longevity etc - That's exactly how I cooked my engine in my Outback. The plastic nipple where the hose connects cracked and the coolant pissed out everywhere. Boom! No coolant circulating = cooked engine!

@@jsantana3145 realistically this car will probably be daily driven and those two mods will actually help the engine for regular driving. The stock radiator is more than enough for daily and spirited driving.

Fun fact: if you go wide open throttle on a Subaru while cranking it does the same thing as unplugging the injectors. It's called flood mode and it's incredibly useful for priming the oil system

Do yourselves (and the winner) a favor and put a trap door in that splash shield so you can access the filter without having to take off the shield. I used a hinged access panel off amazon that locks with a dzus fastener. I think it was made to install into the body of dirt-track cars. That plus a fumoto drain valve has my oil changes down to like 10 minutes.

JDM and all that type of builds takes a lot of $$$ out of the pocket, no channel or business is able to do that for a lifetime. if you read the directions with that radiator it tells you to put the oem single valve radiator cap back onto the radiator & put the mishimoto cap on the expansion tank... unless you do that, that car will have overheat issues in the future!

You should never prime the lines as it could add containments to the system and damage parts. Same for Oil filter. Found this out that hard way a long time ago priming a oil filter. Not that I know much about cars by no means, but definitely cost me about 2k replacing a motor. Love the build BTW its looking awesome.

The thermostatic sandwich plate defeats the purpose of the pre filling of the oil cooler since it’s going to skip the cooler until 180-200 and then the oil will flow, the drop on oil pressure it’s going to happen while the engine is running and hot.

It won't happen unless they are going for stand alone ECU, which is $6K plus just for the ECU. Cobb got cracked down by EPA and had to remove all the feature modifying anything emission related on their tuning software.

So the mishimoto cap that comes with the radiator is a 1.3bar cap and its suppose to go on the expansion Tank and the expansion tank cap is suppose to go on the radiator or it'll cause over heating issues

As long as they don’t remove the TGV’s, EGR, add a flex fuel sensor, or go with a cat less downpipe then Cobb’s change won’t affect their ability to tune with an AP

PSA: If you’re serious about EJ survivability and don’t want cracked cylinder liners (yes, “built” semi-closed decks are still susceptible to failure) then closed deck is the way regardless of power level. EJs tend to form a slight crack at the top of the cylinder where the most heat occurs. Just my opinion based on extensive building and tuning of EJs. TLDR; If you’re going with a built motor go closed deck regardless of “conservative” power goals.

rip for the fuel sensor for e 85 tuner here posted on his FB that the epa forced cobb to get rid of data for it and is forcing everyone to keep the emissions sensors as well so our dashs will be like a christmas lights if we remove them since we can no longer delete the sensors from the ECU.

Too many STI and EVO builds. Why don't you guys try building something new? I recommend the Q50 or Q60. The Q50 3.7 is similar to g37 and the 370z so mechanical wise, that shouldn't be too hard.

Exactly! Q60 is a beaut with lots of aftermarket possibility in the platform. Lots of power capability and could even wide body it... New Z will be the same vr30 twin turbo engine as well. I'm sure a lot of people would like to see something like that before the Z is released to KZbin. Unfortunately the builds are probably already planned out and sponsored for the next long while. Still love watching the throtl team, just would love to see something different.
