Nice work. It's called a reamer. Good idea to use it backwards like that. Wouldn't hurt to sleeve the shaft of the reamer so it really runs true in the bores. See other comments about ways to press the bushings without hammering. Get a small vinyl cap that fits snug on the end of the reamer so the reamer doesn't get ruined in the hardened drill chuck jaws (even loose). Running the reamer backwards is also forbidden, even in soft metal. Aluminum cutting fluid will leave good finish.

To clarify, 'backwards' in your case would be clockwise because your chucking the cutting end instead of the shaft. Running the drill in reverse is 'forward' to the reamer.

Might i suggest using the smooth shaft of the reamer as a guide for installing the bushings? You could slide the bushing onto the reamer with a washer in between it and the cutting head. Then you can simply tap on the face of the reamer (with a sacrificial piece of wood in between) to drive the bushing in squarely.

Bravo Dylan...that is the correct way to do this. It is a reverse cut, piloted reamer. If you have questions, or need instructions Carb Junkys provides a card with all contact information with every purchase. 770-457-8570 or toll free 1-866-961-CARB or info@carbjunkys.com

Just a suggestion . You started the bushing crook it.Instead of banging the bushing in put a piece of threaded rod through the bushing with washers and nuts and suck the bushing in. The washers will keep the bushing square and you won't distort the bushing . Good vid though .

So the carter has small secondaries and lath primaries. Didn’t know that. My back ground is with Quadrajet. A 5/16 or 3/8” bolt works good for bushing install. Use a 5” long bolt to keep bushing squared up. Good job.

huh?...... theres 2 size shafts on this carb. get the right one
@JoeCnNd6 жыл бұрын
you said you messed up and ordered the wrong part and measured the wrong shaft, which if that was the case you should have gotten the 5/16th's shaft instead of 3/8's but then you said you got the right kit. I'm assuming the kit came with both maybe?
