Not mentioned in this video is dealing with the actual Hatchback portion of the car. When comparing these two vehicles, you need to consider why people are getting a hatchback versus a sedan, or coupe. And this is where there is a large difference in my mind. With the Corolla having only 17.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and a total of 23.3 with the seats folded down. This is in comparison to the 22.6 feet in the civic (sport and sport topuring, with 25.7 in the LX) with the seats up, and a shocking 46.2 cubic feet with the seats down. This is over double the space in the corolla and to a hatchback owner, is the reason the Civic is the better hatchback overall

I’ll take the Toyota Corolla, hands down. I’ve owned two Civics back to back and I got SO tired of that low platform. You feel sunken down on the road, plus, it made my back ache tremendously. My Civics were hurting me because they weren’t comfortable, though it took a long time to accept that the cars just weren’t right for my body type. I’ve tested both these cars and the Corolla is by far the most comfortable ride of the two. The Corolla handles brilliantly, and feels sturdier-beefier if you would. The cargo space is not as large as the Civic’s though because it’s a bit higher, but the shape of the hatch is so much cooler looking. I can make less cargo work okay though, and loading the Corolla is easier on my spine because of it’s higher stance. The Corolla looks phenomenal. I tell you, it’s impressive in both Sedan and Hatch version, I was stunned at the dealership at how great this car looks and how well it drove. It’s a total winner for me. If/when the Corolla comes out with a Turbo version, it could potentially blow the Civic away. IMO, The infotainment of the Corolla is way nicer than the Civic’s too. If I wasn’t looking to buy a PHEV soon, I’d probably buy the Corolla instead (my top consideration is the Prius Prime). My next purchase will happen the day after Christmas (Lord willing) and I’m buying my first Toyota. Can’t wait!

Hatchbacks can save us from the SUV/Minivan apocalypse. The Civic Hatchback is the better choice. Hate the Corolla’s unnervingly light steering. Having a much punchier engine and bigger interior also helps, so the Honda Civic it is (but the lack of heated steering wheels will be missed). Not mention that the Corolla’s weird CVT already has recalls.

Show Me What I Need To Know in the context of hatchbacks I was suggesting that it was inferior to awd in terms of traction. It’s not obvious in the video but at that moment I lost traction while trying to accelerate. Hope that clears it up!
@Bartonovich52
@Bartonovich52 5 жыл бұрын
AWD isn’t that much more useful. The extra power is going to tires with less grip because of less weight. You’re not getting the kind of acceleration that is going to shift weight distribution either. AWD also comes with extra weight, extra unsprung weight, and higher centre of gravity... all huge liabilities when trying to stop or maneuver on slippery surfaces after your AWD got you going too fast. That’s probably why most of the vehicles I’ve seen spun out or flipped in winter have been AWD or 4WD.
@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow
@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow 5 жыл бұрын
As someone who has driven FWD most of their lives (with snow tires), and now drives an AWD 328I xDrive, I can tell you that AWD makes A HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, DIFFERENCE. Modern AWD systems shuffle the power to the wheels that have grip -- not the wheels that don't have grip. In fact, an open diff FWD car is what will shuffle power to the wheel that does not have the grip -- so there's a big disadvantage.

Your spot on about power. If you had 168 or 400 what is the point on a public road??? Maybe power is important t for people who feel they need to prove that somehow power makes them better than others. I like the Corolla it looks good drives good and is senisble and ecconomic. The civic is also a good looking car and looks like colour are subjective. I can understand why turbos are good as its not just about power but getting max torque across a wide spectrum of rpm.. When it comes to quality Toyota, Honda and Subaru are amongst the best.

I test drove the Corolla hatchback the first day it hit dealers, at first I was impressed but hated the rev/speedometer gauge on the lower trims, which imo where ripped out of a 2013 Corolla sedan. Then I test drove the Mazda, and was even more impressed, but the 2.5GT 6spd I test drove had really uncomfortable vibrations throughout the car at idle, either from droning or engine knock, so I left. The way home I stopper by honda to test drive the civic hatchback, and was I blown away! I love how it looked and the 1.5t is the best enthusiast engine out of the 3, the 6spd was easy to learn but had a good amount of rev hang. Simply put.... they didn't compare the cargo space because Honda is the leader in the class for that. I think one car in the class has more space with the seats down. But as far as the trunk itself honda is the leader. I think this review was trying to make them look as equal as possible. They are both good cars if you want a car that is reliable fast for is classed and more fun to drive go with the Civic. If you want a car that's probably more reliable overall and more comfortable to drive get the Corolla. I bought the 2020 Honda Civic hatchback. Tj J true but most people buy a car on how it drives, it’s how you enjoy it, cargo space is very useful but how much are you really gonna carry all at once? The most I carry is half a trunk and like a bag in the front. Now my mother’s car it can carry a load full she is a chef so she buys a lot of food for her work so that’s where it comes in handy. I have same civic in red color. Worth every penny. Just drive it once and you will feel how good it is! Only issue is it isn't actually a hatchback it is a big car with big turning radius. Can't even compare it with this corolla hatch. In that case its harder to control in city. Besides that i love driving it all the time!

I have had a civic hatch får 3 years soon and the turbo is lovely. The engine sounds magnificent. I am really enjoying every second of it. The car sounds like it will last forever. I have tried a new corolla but it is not even close in driving abillity. Choose Honda!

168 BHP is more than enough for day to day use. Given it's weight it will keep up with most compact crossovers sold today. Also the correct answer to your question is the 2020 Corolla sedan. Bigger trunk and more rear leg room.

@Richard Favreau ... yeah, I have the CVT ... the launch gear makes it faster 0-60 than the 6 speed manual & 2 mpg better fuel mileage... it is just FUN to drive , NOT a sports car, but NOT a typical Corolla... it’s quick & nimble... & even though some reviews claim the steering is too light, I actually like that... the best thing to me, is the electronics package & safety features... I’ve never seen this stuff in a model under $25k... it’s a long list...! Blind Spot Monitors Lane Departure Detection (It actually nudges your steering) Pedestrian detection Bicycle detection Road Sign detection & display on the main display Radar distance monitoring for active cruse control... GREAT seats...! and the Entune infotainment system is awesome... Love the iPhone interface with Apple Car play... I really Love this Car...❤️

Pay more per payment, here's why: If you pay more each time you make a payment, you can pay off the car quicker, and you will pay less in total, because there will be less time for interest to build up. It might be more demanding on your wallet at the time, but you will pay less in total.

for a hatchback and daily commuting im gonna buy me a carola hatchback. I feel that a hatchback is a comute/ more comfort driving car then a speed car. Im all about comfterbility and smooth quite drive. I don't feel that a hatchback should be a sports car so speed doesn't matter as much. Plus carolla still has a sport mode if you wanted to feel a little more speed and it saves so much more gas.

I wouldn’t say the sport button on the Corolla is as useless to be honest. It DOES make it more responsive which I personally like. When it’s on ECO, it feels like the car is heavy which is a very weird way to describe it but that is exactly what it is. For normal driving eco is totally fine but when you’re somewhere that you need to act quickly, sport mode actually helps

It's funny that I found this vid because today I test drove both of these vehicles today. The only difference was that the honda was an SI model which is only available in a manual trans, which is what I want to buy. The Toyota dealer didn't have a manual hatch in stock. At this point I am undecided. The manual doesn't have remote start for obvious reasons, neg for me. Corolla doesn't have sun/moon roof. Civic doesn't have LED headlamps or side view mirror turn signals. I find them helpful when driving on 3 lane highways. The SI that I drove was coupe but I don't think the sedan will feel much different. Another minus for me on the Honda is that the premium sound is a factory brand and branded like Toyota's JBL or Mazda's Bose system. Both cars seem very well made. Maybe if I can get a chance to drive a Corolla manual, it might help me make a decision. I also have the mazda3 hatch grand touring on my wish list. I saw a standard model in person today but didn't drive it. The interior looked cheaply made and the instrument cluster was underwhelming. Anyway, I subscribed to your channel and will report back with my final decision. So car the SI is car I'm leaning towards.

It may not be the best corolla I will have been in. My first car was a Corolla FX16, Toyota's failed attempt to strike at the CRX. The FX16 had a 16 valve twin cam engine (same as the MR2 of the time), sub 2000lbs, great handling, loadsa fun AND very comfy! And I know there have been better Corollas than that. Although Toyota does not make cars like they used to any longer I am just glad that they are trying to bring back more fun in their line-up. I am planning on getting back in the Corolla hatch with this model. BTW volume knobs suck, it's starting to go out on my '00 Prelude.

Actually a Mazda 3 I think is a good middle ground between the two cars. doesn't drive as nice as the Civic but it drives better than the Corolla plus it's more premium and quieter and it's the sexiest lol. I'm probably 18 months out from getting a car but I'm looking at Honda and Mazda. Either a sport touring, premium Mazda 3 or an SI.

My family had a Lexus GS and it had the absolute cheapest feeling key I’ve ever felt. It’s like lighter than two sheets of paper. It’s also really cheap plastic, but the Lexus dealers give you a leather “glove” to put over the key and make it a bit heavier and feel nicer. It’s honestly one of the main annoyances with a Toyota product because the key is literally the first thing you interact with on the car. Luckily I think they’ve started to redesign them and the Lexus keys are much heavier and have metal now.

The Corolla looks good no denying that. But doesn't look better than the civic. Not even close. The civic is a overall better car. I have a Si coupe and went on multiple road trips and its so smooth and comfortable for me and the passengers. Me and my brother switched and I sat in the back with my lady and in my coupe with me at 6 foot 2 and a half, I had space and it was roomy back there. We all enjoyed the ride. It's extremely livable and perfect for everyday and extremely capable if you need it. While the corolla is just a nice car but not a contender to the civic imo. Maybe the base base civic.
