I was told that Mexico (my country) was nothing. This was back in a history class by a Texan teacher. When I mentioned it class. Ignorance is all around us. That's when I learned that being educated is a privilege that nobody can take away from me I also learned I cannot let someone define my beliefs.

I came to the United States when I had just turned 7.. my dad who was already in the United States thought that it would be the best for me. They brought me here so that I could have a good education, and simply because there are so many opportunities here.. hearing all these things about how immigrants are worthless, and criminals breaks my heart. We are not what people say we are.. I cry myself to sleep every night, even at school sometimes.. I go to a school that is really diverse.. so I grew up with different kinds of people and cultures. I just want to become someone in life, have a good career & make my parents proud!

This. Sending you lots of love. You have the choice each day to make your life what you truly want it to be. Never mind the other a holes. They don't get to decide for you what or who you will be. You get that choice. Find your people, leave the rest. Their negativity is not your concern. They have to fight their own demons. I hope you find some solace in your very diverse school. So glad you have that outlook!

Ha-ha. It's a pleasure to see how different descendants of immigrants are arguing trying to identify who have more rights to live in US. You are all somehow were stemmed from immigration irrespective of how many years ago your ancestors made a decision to set up here. America is a nation of immigrants and those immigrants have made it and still keep making it great. I'm determined that every nation in this melting pot plays its special role to help America to become such a great!

Is his thesis that we should have open borders? Most people make the distinction between legal and illegal immigration. The fact he doesn’t is disingenuous. He also lied about trump’s comment. Trump was referring to illegal immigrants not legal and did not say “all”. I wish he would have discussed why his parents felt they could break the law. I wonder if he ever had that discussion.

It was a sweet talk until he misquoted Trump- it isn't the Mexican people who are good and kind and hard-working like his parents, but the others who cross and who hurt good people in Mexico as they traveled to the border. Border control is needed as is compassion and understanding and tolerance. I wish we had no nation states and could travel safely all over the world, but it isn't that way -yet. And until it is, we need border security.

I cannot imagine having to live this way, Worrying as a child. What’s terrible to realize is, it was not a Trump idea to have to deal with illegal immigrants and the Program that OB put into place as a just that a program. Not a bill, not a legislative law. It was just that a Program. That allowed for children that are in this country to stay, along with rules. As OB put it, it is no a path to citizenship, or amnesty. Just a program. That was 2012, and in 2014 he talked about DAPA that never happened. It would’ve protected the parents of the DACA recipients. No, it was even written on a memo. This was a very political move, that didn’t really help anyone. And created labels for people. Every single president has promised to come up with a solution to illegal immigration. Until OB became president, facts remain that he was named “the deported in chief” having been the 1st president to deport more people than any other president in history. Even with Trump in office today, has the amount of people deported come close to the previous administration. I agree with the speaker in why is America the most desired place to live in. Without even knowing what is there, someone must’ve told someone that its like Disneyland everyday. While it is a beautiful place to live and just like every other country is there are laws. Without them we’d be animals, with them we still act as so. God please have mercy on us all. Just as the speaker said, why not go and Make Mexico Great Again! Wouldn’t that be just amazing and a wonder to see. Knowing with God all things are possible......

Abbas Abbaszadeh Forced/ Nonconsentual Entry & Settlement is not the same as Consentual. That is the issue. Consent respects both Boundaries & Bridges. Some seem to believe that this is okay for Racial or national Revenge or something. As someone who grew up with racial guilt, I think that is the error that leads to the doormat, the lack of Love of Self here. Where I live in Australia, no one had a problem with it until it was forced & uncontrollable entry. Happy to have respectful discussion, as I do a lot ☺🙏.

"Not all Americans" well of course not. But it's gotten to the point that as immigrants, or even just passive foreigners, that's all we see online. And it's really heartbreaking. On the one hand in school you're romanticized, on the other, you're discriminated against and made fun of for existing.

Anti-immigration (legal or not) policies in Mexico are draconian and the the attitude from the general public towards immigrants is much less forgiving than in the US by far. Talk about a double standard. Why doesn't Mexico open it's borders to central and south america? This talk is less about attitudes towards immigration and more about the self centered attitude representative of a generation.

I have been to 48 of 50 states, Europe several times, Canada over a 12 times and even now going to Asian countries and actually spent a month in Australia and that is the only country besides our that I would ever consider to live in. And one side of my family are DAR and have been here since Massacuettes bay colony and the other side were Immigrants from two different countries where each spent years waiting to be accepted to come here when their whole families wanted to come but couldn't. Every country I have ever been to has a Wall, Fence or a Border Enforcement. We can not continue to continue to allow our border to be so porous and must not only build a wall just as Mexico did for their southern border but we must figure out what to do about the people who came here illegally and we turned a blind eye to for so many years. We shouldn't have allowed them to stay and then by having a baby, or a job, or establishing a relationship this is NOT how we should allow them to be Americans. And as he also slightly mentioned in his pride of his heritage about how it should be ok to speak other languages which I find is ludicrous as Both my Grandparents might have spoken other languages they NEVER did once they arrived here as they took a years worth of English and then to become a true citizen they Acclimated and Learned not only the spoken word but also the traditions of their New country so that they were not citisens of their birth country and there was an entire process as standing in line at a store or place of business. So today or the next day when you go to any place of business imagine if people just walked up in front of you and got served before you and you would never know when you were actually going to get served as line jumpers had as much rights supposedly as you do. Which is another slight problem I have in that if your NOT a citizen of this country then how can you have any rights to claiming that privelage mean why can't I just go to the Country Club as the logical answer is I didn't fill out an application, go thru the process and then pay my entry fee if I met their criteria for membership and after I join of course I then have to abide by their Rules just as if they wear funny hats or white coats. My sister and brother in law belong to one and it has a restaurant and a swimming pool and a golf course and I am sure that I could go as a guest of my sister if she invited me; but I am 100% sure if I just walked in the front door and sat down for dinner or took some friends with and we all hung out at the pool and used their showers, towels and toiletries and amenities even if they aren't much cost per person individually but the point is after a few groups of us came strolling in it would cost the members some money and I hadn't contributed or at least not the Entire membership fee so the cooks, waiters, grounds people, maintenance guys and all the others were paid as even though I might tip them it doesn't cover all that I used just as ALL the illegals aren't covering the costs that my Grandparents paid since Day One and had no 10 year period before they had to pay. And the funny is after ai looked into possibly going to Australia they had specific career title people they would allow along with that the only other was if I were to bring I believe it was 1 or 2 Million dollars that I deposited in their banks and invested in their country before I would be even considered; and Ps you couldn't even sneak a piece of fruit into that country the border is so tight and their an Island. So even the boat refugees were looked at cared for in a camp and then escorted back by their Navy even if they came from some impoverished country. So As I have quote thoroughly explained it is NOT just a matter of Fear as this gentleman perpetrated but the whole idea and assumption and the feeling of entitlement that these people who Broke the Law to be here and continue to do so as then they break other laws and we should just let them all stay as we didn't catch them or go after them the initial time so as if there is some sort of statue of limitations and now we should forgive and forget the sacrifices my Grandparents went thru or even my former girlfriend for doing it all the right drawn out way and spent tons of money to gain their citizenship as it boils my blood and I know for a fact they were totally against Amnesty and forgiving the ones who jumped the line and came across the border without permission. It has now become such an enormous problem that we can no Longer turn a blind eye to and not sure as to what would be a good enough penalty like working for our government for a period of time like in the military, or even civil service at the very least for some agency that helped and contributed to bringing people up like a united way agency or a not for profit that helped do some civil servant jobs like clean up parks, or spmething along those lines but the Free Services Must end Today and we can do something possible bi-partisan or have a small group of both sides be locked in a room and not come out till they can agree on the outcome and not leave the room Until a Unanomous decision is made and the all must adhere to it. But that probably won't happen as our politicians are ore interested in fighting each other then actually sitting down and working it out, and if those idiots actually ran the country we would all be out on strike and shut down as even that has happened before.

Americans think that "everybody" wants to come live in the US permanently? Wot?! That's some steep assumption there. I m sure that most Europeans have NO desire whatsoever to voluntarily move to the US. the only people I know who - grudgingly- ended up moving to the States were people who married a US citizen, and because their spouse was, like most Americans, too lowly educated to speak sufficiently many European languages to properly advance their career in Europe, they ended up having to move to the US, because the European partner of course spoke English well enough. Where do Americans get this idea from, that the States are so great? Bizarre.
@Wandering.Homebody

Also, what if the fact that Americans don't want a never-ending stream of illegal mass immigration from Mexico was a mere preference? What if they just don't want it, they don't want too much diversity, they like it as it was? And it's not because they necessarily think the US are so great (maybe they do, or maybe they don't, anyway, this isn't related, to my mind at least. Like, Hungary or Poland for instance are quite firmly against too much immigration, and I ve NEVER heard anybody claim that these countries are oh so great, let alone the greatest countries in the world, so I m frankly a bit baffled by your premise there), and they don't have some weird, irrational "phobia" of immigrants, what if it is simply their preference, to not have too much immigration, and no illegal immigration? Could you accept that? The last part of your speech, that people will basically just have to accept it, sounded really callous, and vaguely threatening to my ears, and I m not even American, nor interested, in the slightest, in moving there.

All the countries in the world are not prepared for illegal immigrants for one simple reason, the economy can support the population of their own people only but sometimes in the developed countries such as the United States they welcome legal immigrants in a certain number. I hear this a lot, “ why don’t you try it the right way.. blah blah..”, sorry Meredith, while people are gettting shot, killed, and terrorized I’m sure the first thought is, let me go to through the 10+ year wait, plus thousand dollar worth applications these people CANT afford, and do things the right way. While you’re in America worrying about what to wear the next day.. let that sink in.

Let me get this straight...this guy is comparing illegal immigration to legal immigration as the same thing. The immigrants that built the US came here through legal means. And another thing, he wants immigration reform and amnesty but has no problem with Mexico's tough immigration laws, because he did not mention it. Also, if the happiness index in Mexico is only 3 points lower than the US then why doesn't he just move back instead of spinning. What he fails to realize is that many Americans do not speak Spanish and are being passed over for jobs because of it. Why couldn't they stay and fight to make Mexico better, why can't they apply to come here. and since Mexico scored so high then all can't be wrong there. he should be deported....

Colorado means "rouge" in Spanish. Florida means "flowerful" in Spanish. Nevada means "snowfall" in Spanish. Montana means "mountain" in Spanish. Arizona is "arid zone" in a Spanish play on words. So, it's Very clear Spanish speaking people were here Way before this country was established.

I'm tired of 1st generation Hispanics and Hispanic immigrants distorting the narrative of Americans of Hispanic descent. Hispanics have been in parts of the US longer than the US has been around. At this point most, again I say MOST Hispanics are multi generational Americans. We don't need some immigrants from Guatemala or Honduras speaking on our behalf because all that does is perpetuate a stereotype that Hispanics are nothing but speaking with accent sounding English immigrant non Americans. It's frustrating. Look at Eva Longoria, SHE"S A 9TH GENERATION AMERICAN, not even Trump can say the same, he's only 2nd generation. Stop with the distortion already!!! I personally don't need to hear anymore immigrant stories!!!

Tell me something dude when your family needs help what do they do??? Call the cops right? We dont get the same thing in latin America. In Latin America gangs are the ones that run the country not the government so those 2 honest humans did something and that was to leave and look for a safe place to raise their kid and keep him safe from terror that is living in a bad country your parents would do the same for you

There is a difference between legal and illegal immigrants. This country may have been founded by immigrants, but most of us living today are not immigrants. We were born here, we pay taxes, and only we should benefit from our country. Enough is enough.
