Was someone at the public school a witch or wizard????), and all the very strange people that seem to know him in the street that disappear when he tries to get a second look..... Harry manages an ego despite the constant put downs. And then when Hagrid launches Harry, it's only the fear of "He Who Must Not Be Named" that keeps him in check that first year... We know that Dumbledore has known Moody for quite a number of years, based on the trial memories in the pensieve that Harry sees. Crouch-Moody had to play the role perfectly. I won't be surprised if he legilimensed the real Moody to learn his mannerisms and key personality traits so he can act like him in a way that would convince Dumbledore. Dumbledore most likely asked Moody to teach that year so he can keep an eye on Harry during the tournament, so it was crucial not to get caught until the finals at the end of the year. Bottom line - he had no choice but to be proficient and act like the real Moody.

Theory can also refer to an underlying body of basic principles. For example in music, theory encompasses everything from a quarter note in 4/4 time gets one beat to pentatonic scale to complex forms and motifs. Not necessarily proofs and conclusions, although there is that which is what we do here. One of those underlying bodies of principles is wand lore. We know "the wand chooses the wizard" and certain principles by which the relationship grows or recedes. And the way wands might switch owners. We don't know much more than that, though, which is why I want to see a novel on wand theory.

I haven't read the books in a long time so I may be misremembering, but didn't Winky summon the dark mark with Harry's wand during the quiddich world cup? House elves are very powerful, but is it in wand magic? My point is - it may be a really easy spell. The only thing stopping someone from casting is what it means. If I remember correctly.
@wrdreads47427 ай бұрын
Winky was found with the wand, but at the end of GoF, Dumbledore calls Winky up to the reveal/interrogation of Barty Jr, and Barty admits that he had gotten free of Winky, sorta. Barty was under the cloak when Amos went to investigate the bushes, and then Barty Sr double checked the bushes, hiding Barty Jr., again. Barty Jr stole Harry's wand in the top box, and then used the spell, dropped the wand when the stunners that went over the Trio's heads and hit the bushes. Barty Jr., under the his father's invisibility cloak, isn't seen by Amos, but Winky, who had been trying to hold onto Barty Jr., is seen, and the wand next to her on the ground. Olivander seems to make a point about the wand choosing the wizard as part of his "sales pitch" for the lack of a better term. Garrick Olivander doesn't simply sell wands as a shoppe owner; he sells them as a craftsman who makes wands and an expert in wand lore; that is, someone who has a personal connection to wands and the craft of making them. I would expect that most, if not all, witches and wizards in Britain, at the very least know that one fact, having learned it from Olivander himself. They won't know the ins and outs since even Olivander says that experts in wand lore don't fully understand it, but they will learn, as Harry did, from the day they buy their first wand, that their wand is choosing them. Reg Cattermole's wife says at her hearing that her wand chose her, for example. There might be other shoppes that sell wands that don't make that point because the proprietors aren't experts in wand lore, just sales people. Perhaps Gregorovitch withheld such information from his customers, but that doesn't seem right. It seems to me that other wand-makers would teach their customers that much, if for no other reason than knowing that a major competitor in the trade is doing so, but more likely because it's good for having truly satisfied customers in the end.

Quirrel isn't a horcrux at all. Voldemort is directly possessing him. The core part of Voldemort, not just a fragment of his soul, is residing in Quirrel's body. That makes all the difference. Harry can touch a horcrux (e.g. the locket) without harming it because he is not touching Voldemort's person. At most, touching a horcrux would be like touching Voldemort's robe, but not Voldemort himself. Had Harry only touched Quirrel's robes, I don't think he (Quirrel) would have been injured. Once Voldemort regenerated his body using Harry's blood, he could physically touch him. Had he possessed Quirrel at that point, Quirrel probably wouldn't have been harmed by Harry's touch. When Voldemort attempts to possess Harry, it is agony, not because of the protection of Lily's blood in Harry, but because Harry's soul is so pure, Voldemort's corrupt soul can't stand to be housed in the same body - to be in that close contact, which is why he stops trying to use legilimency against Harry. Note also that Nagini is not harmed by contact with Harry. The key here is that there is a huge difference between a horcrux and possession.

Doesn’t the taking of Harry’s blood in goblet of fire end the vulnerability of Voldemorts soul to Harry’s “love” touch.
@mandielyn041626 күн бұрын
I think that the Diary was meant to be handled and so didn’t have the same magical defenses on it. Was the part of the diary that was Voldemorts soul actually the ink? The diary doesn’t disappear as Voldemort is returning while Ginny is fading away, so if the ink is what actually houses the soul fragment then Harry would t have had physical contact with the soul and causing any damage to be done to it.

25:12 Certainly in the movies, if not the books. Where he, apparently a death eater, deflects hostile spells sent his way and they just happen to hit other death eaters, and nobody on either side realizes heʼs doing that on purpose. 46:54 You already did this before this bonus episode. It would not affect much; they get all the information in other ways. They go to school on the train, Harry wins the match without breaking his arm but they still learn everything interesting they learn in the hospital wing, and eventually they go and confront Aragog after Hagrid is taken away. The problem is they confront Aragog after having gone to school on the train, so there is no feral car to rescue them and they are eaten. At least as far as I can tell this episode was first aired (not just the supercut) five months ago, and What If was Jul. 2023, so youʼve been through all of this from the vacation home to the spiders before. 1:30:43 Did they… not want you to include that you might have questions? Why did you try this part of the ad read twice then abandon it (and forget to cut that out of the video)? 1:43:30 So they trade the Christmas colors back and forth. Really someone should have noticed that earlier and instead of having big battles just taught Tom the true meaning of Christmas in a Hallmark special. 1:51:13 I just binged this entire book of the podcast, so I know that: it is wet. You commented on this, and thought it would make more sense (not knowing about Harry being a horcrux) if it were dry, because it would give Harry a reason to be interested in it, and he does not have an understandable one of those. 1:52:12 Iʼve always wondered if they were right there. It *shouldnʼt* need to be opened, but Harry has an instinct for this sort of thing after 6.5 years in the magical world and I somewhat trust his instincts. 1:59:25 If Voldemort realized why the sacrifice worked, he wouldnʼt have set up *the exact same situation* during the Battle of Hogwarts. He gave Harry an explicit choice, Harry chose to sacrifice his own life, and now that sacrifice protects the people of Hogwarts.

I only realised this now but because she kills Bellatrix Molly does not have a fully intact soul anymore. Somehow that fells so wrong. 😟 I mean it´s an awesome kill but Molly always feels so wholesome through the whole stroy.
@wrdreads47427 ай бұрын
I think that because she did so to protect her daughter, and perhaps could have something to do with the specific spell(??), that her soul remains whole. In a similar way to Dumbledore telling Snape that only Snape would know if helping an old man die comfortably would harm his soul.

I don't think Dumbledore would have been the last youngest seeker in a century, because I don't think something like would have been forgotten about Dumbledore. I think something like that would have been brought up about him by a side character to Harry, most likely by Oliver Wood with how obsessed he his with quidditch, or by Charlie Weasley when he meets him Goblet of Fire. As inconsequential bit of trivia as it is, there's many bits of random, inconsequential bits of trivia thrown throughout the books. I think the youngest seeker is just some random, nameless student.
@UnfazedPhoenix7 ай бұрын
Almost nothing is inconsequential. You don't get it. Also, Dumbledore literally won EVERY award the school offered- which includes the Quidditch Cup. It would have been one century prior to Harry.

@@UnfazedPhoenix it's not being a quidditch player I'm questioning, it's him being the youngest player before Harry.

I think Dumbledore is living by destiny: He’s the jack of all traits, using the elder wand to be master of all; but, it comes at a cost… I think Dumbledore knows the future, has seen what’s going to happen, and when the prophecy is made to him, it’s more a reinforcement to what he already kind of knew…. The problem is how much of you knowing what is destined to happen, is required for creating the future that occurs? By the start of the books: I believe Dumbledore had seen specific scenes in the future, communicated with known fortune tellers, and used the wand to gain as much foresight as possible… I also believe, he was in constant fear, that his additional actions as he lives in the present; will effect the only outcome that needed to be destined to happen… In the end, the story feels like a redemption story of a man(Dumbledore) who used tools that even gods aren’t suppose to have, and made the entirety of existence pay the price for his use of them… The double-edge sword of the argument is that Dumbledore used those same tools to advance existence in incredible ways… However, because Dumbledore was living by destiny, as always happens, he became a slave to it, and wasted away doing exactly as it instructed.

I know plenty of speculation was made to why can't Harry see Thestrals until book 5 since his parents died, but my question is why can't he see them if he witnesses Quirl die at Voldemort's hand? Does he not witness it in the book?

Currently reading Deathly Hallows. In Chapter 9, “A Place to Hide”, Ron says he’s never performed a memory charm, and Hermione says “Nor have I, but I think I’ve got the theory.” Hadn’t Hermione already wiped her parents’ memories? (Page 162)

Do you think the reason that dumbledore allows Snape to be such a bully, is to teach harry not be cocky and mean like James? Like Harry sees how much it hurts Neville, the way snape, bullies him and it makes him want to stand up bullies. That's always been my head cannon. Why else Would dumbledore allow snape to treat students that way?
@wrdreads47427 ай бұрын
It's to keep the ability to spy on Voldy. If Snape keeps showing he's evil, he'll be welcomed back more willingly.... Maybe it helps the kids get tougher skin.....!#%^@#%_^@#^!

They're not different things. There is only Apparition in universe, which is teleportation by another word, and no, you can't apparate in or out of Hogwarts or the grounds. Unless you're Dumbledore.
