DC Classics had the game on lock a few years ago! This DC comic based line was one of the most complete comic based line I can remember. The line featured all of the classics DC characters, Collect and Connect Figures and specific story based waves.
That was definitely a good time to be DC Comics fan!

DCUC was a fun line to collect. At the time, it was the only 6 inch scale line that had arms that could do a good two handed sword pose.

Yeah! It was a great line for sure! I was surprised to see his arms were able to get in front of him THAT much haha. I think I want to grab that Multiverse Kyle Mattel did and do a throw back review for him too.

Few things. Martian Manhunter is 6’7” in the books, so any figure you display him with that’s a little shorter than he is, all the better. JUST before McFarlane took over (and yeah, I’m not a fan either) Mattel has switched over the line from DCUC into DC Multiverse. Yes, McFarlane just straight up jacked the name😅. But they were reworking the articulation and it was clear that it was a work in progress, but they were definitely on to something. DC took the license away before Mattel could release all the figures they previewed for the Multiverse line. I would KILL for a return to a proper DC six inch DC line again, but it looks like we’re a ways away from that.

I really came to appreciate this line with time, they especially excelled when it came to unique characters like Manbat, Clayface, Parasite, Desaad. 4HM sculpting was amazing even though to this day I absolutely hate ugly crotch/leg articulation.

When I compare an action figure "line", individual figure quality is only one aspect. I also look for the depth of character selection, the total number of figures, the value, completed teams, etc. In that sense? DCUC is absolutely the best DC line ever, it isn't even close IMO. This is a line where you could get Superman, Batman Beyond, Etrigan, and Kilowog! What other DC line can you say that about??? DCUC played it safe for its first few waves, but then the line QUICKLY dived into the more obscure parts of the DC Universe and it was amazing! Unlike McFarlane, we didn't get a Batman and a Superman every wave! If we're JUST going off of individual figure quality? DC Icons was the best IMO (good paint, naturalistic sculpts, a lot of accessories, etc.). But like I said, I think you need to consider more than just figure quality when comparing entire "lines"
@UnparalleledUniverse

Well said! That’s exactly how I feel! I think if DC icons was given the chance, it could have dethroned DCUC but as it is now, it is the great DC line ever.

Awesome review! I collected this line from day 1, and I remember that they were deep into several waves and it took forever for Mattel to give us Martian Manhunter, which was so frustrating given that he was an integral member of the Justice League. It's crazy to think that it has been well over a decade, since this figure came out.

Awesome figure! One of my favorites from the dcuc line. Articulation aside, it still holds up and fits well with other 6in dc figures. The recent mcfarlane classic martian is awesome as well! Check it out. Better paint and articulation. The dcuc line got me back into collecting figures after the demise of toybiz. Though i did get into it about halfway. The initial hasbro legends were an immediate turnoff. The dcuc figures were great! I did always wish they had better articulation though.

Hope you do more DCUC throwback reviews, solid review for a really dope figure. I had a Black Manta from this line but it broke at the leg 🫤 Btw, Martian Manhunter is usually tall (6'7") so this and the shorter McFarlane figures scale pretty well with the 6 inch line, can't really go wrong with either. I'd love a figure of MM in his modern/Final Crisis era suit somehow.

Personally, I could never get into the DCUC figures. I didn’t like the body molds or how often they reused molds. The articulation could’ve been much better when compared to other lines like marvel legends. I could pose them around, but it didn’t feel satisfying. By the time I actually started to like the line (around the clayface wave when they started using all new bodies and articulation) it ended. I was never attached to the line, so I was happy when McFarlane got the license.

Pretty cool. I mean I don’t like it because I’ve come to like a figure with the 20+ POA. The sculpt is dead on to the MM though. The height is not a big deal as MM in his Who’s Who files show he is taller than most DC characters. I really wish someone could take over the DC characters and make them at the 6” scale with 22+ POA. These characters deserve the respect. They been out for close to 100 years. Great review. You really know how to make collecting fun.

Growing up in the early 2000's in the UK I didn't really pay attention to different figure lines, toys were toys to me, I didn't know what Marvel Legends were or anything like that. Once I got into my early teens and started properly reading comics I began collecting DC figures, but for me it was the DC Collectables/DC Direct releases that were 7" scale and were nice looking but fairly limited and brittle figures, then DC Icons came along later. Marvel Legends I feel like I didn't really see all that often, until around 2017 and I've been down that rabbit hole ever since. I'd never heard of these at the time, and if I'm honest I appreciate them for what they were but they do nothing for me. Mattel in general I became aware of during their later years with DC figures and those DC Multiverse releases always looked so cheap and ugly to me, and in general I've just never collected Mattel stuff. That said I'm glad to know there was a DC figure line that went as deep as this one did.
@BoogSReviews
@BoogSReviews Жыл бұрын
7” scale is superior imo. With that scale you can get so much more sculpted and painted detail than you get with 6” figures. I was a weird kid, so the lack of a good articulation scheme on these really bothered me. Even when I got older and started doing action figure photography, it still bothered me. You can pose them around, but you can’t get too many cool or epic poses out of them.
@tomtudorweaver1078
@tomtudorweaver1078 Жыл бұрын
@@BoogSReviews Yeah that was something that threw me off too. Starting out collecting with 7" figures like DC Direct, Marvel Select and NECA stuff meant I was used to fairly limited articulation, which I didn't mind if the figure looked good, these to me just look awkward with their articulation, those thigh cuts especially and I've never loved ab crunches on figures either. To me the execution of the articulation clashes with the nice sculpt.

As much as I'm liking the Masterverse line from Mattel, I'm so glad McFarlane are making DC figures and do prefer the construction of their figures over Mattel's Masterverse (no shade though they are great figures and probably the best line Mattel have ever made) but I think McFarlane DC Multiverse is still vastly underrated , the McFarlane Martian Manhunter is so much better than this figure, from articulation to sculpt to the details on the figure, and every figure they put out is like that. I still don't quite understand alot of the shade they get (the line has its flaws but EVERY toyline does, even that 100 dollar Hush Superman with it's small head and torso looking like an old school toybiz ML figure) the McFarlane figures are damn good toys
@BoogSReviews

McFarlane DC figures are leagues better than the Mattel ones. The Mattel line had more deep cuts, but the sculpt on the figures were so subpar. They had hardly any sculpted details and instead had painted details. McFarlane has both sculpted and painted details.

@@Grotesque_denizenyou both are delusional and that Mongol is too big and fugly. Midfarlane makes garbage, like your taste. I'm tired of hearing about sculpted detail. Mattel’s DCUC hit its peak with Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes, then when they transitioned to Multiverse, it was hit or miss, and mostly miss. I don’t like McFarlane’s Multiverse because of the scale and awkward articulation in weird spots, and that they can’t get Superman and capes right in terms of sculpt. McFarlane is great with the monster type characters but awful on humanoid aesthetics. DCUC had them beat. The only downside to DCUC is the square crotch look. DCUC was a great line. It actually managed to put out a great roster of characters. It was also compatible with ML, because it was in the 6 inch line. McFarlane supposedly took over the license, but his products seem to have taken over DC Direct/Collectibles line. His figs are 7 inches! In other words, DC's 6 inch line vanished! It stopped with Mattel.

I have this figure I bought it on vacation when I was 12 and still have it on my shelf. This line was so fun.

Ha! That’s dope! I wish I had kept more figures from my childhood. I was an adult by the time these were coming out haha.

I have the axe hand variant. It's cool. But I prefer this one. My J'onn is currently standing with my Icons JL. And I think he blends in well with them. Also,you mentioning you're watching Justice League TAS. GOATED show. I mean,that show was my introduction to geek stuff as a kid. Great review as always Wade!

Great throwback review ! I still occasionally buy DCUC figures to add to my other ones. They are simple but very cool. A gripe is sometimes the plastic will not match on certain body parts on certain figures. Overall good stuff.
