I think Dirk was still in his prime that year although it's not really the height of his prime as he was getting slower. Unfortunately his injury the next year really extinguished Dirk's prime. But I see your point. If Dirk had the help during his ascend to his prime then he would have won more rings. Imagine if he wasn't injured on that west finals during 03. They could have won it all then kept Nash, Finley and the others. That team was stacked and '03 Dirk runs like a deer. 03 was Dirk's ascend to superstardom.

Don't disrespect Michael Finely like that. He was absolutely star level in his prime that coincided with the emergence of Dirk and Nash. One of the most UNDERRATED 2 guards of his era. And as great as prime Dirk was, those early to mid 2000 Mavs teams were some of the most talented and deep teams in the league. I fondly remember when they had Nick Van-Exel (1X all star), Antwan Jamison (2x all-star) Antione Walker (3x all-star), Josh Howard (1x all-star) and Jerry Stackhouse (2x all-star). To say Nash was the only legit all-star Dirk had in his prime is literally, objectively and subjectively untrue. The fact is, Dirk up until his 2011 pantheon run to his lone title, had arguably been a playoff underachiever as the best player on teams that were more than good enough to win a title.
