Wonderful. Now I have full of various FM Chips... ;) Great work as always!

Very cool. Would've been nice to have some kind of pass-through mode so it would also be possible to directly drive the chip from an external source.

I just bought one. Once it shows up I'm going to put some effort into making it possible to use as a serial peripheral.

I was able to replicate this project. The sound is wonderful. Management is simple. But not all downloaded files play after unzipping. Cool! =)

Back in the days when you played Games just for the great music :D ... I missed the Lotus III Soundtrack (especially Songs 3 and 6) ;)

Aidan / Anybody, Is there any reference or project online for translating YM2612 (OPN2L, Sega Genesis) tunes to play on YMF262 (OPL3)? I built a little YMF262 module, and while it's been great to be able to play some OPL tunes, lately I've had a serious hankering to play SUNSOFT's "Gotham City Streets 2" on it!! That song only uses the YM2612, not the PSG, and it RULES.

Can this be used in Windows 10 with any Tracker apps to compose OPL3-specific music?

Every your thing is masterpiece!!! Want to do same thing but can i use opl2 instead opl3? Because Teensy is expensive as sh*t.

Imagine having an OPL4 instead of an OPL3. It would hold 5 chips in total! OPL, OPLL, OPL2, OPL3 and of course, the OPL4

The project is very good. Tell me how to redo this project for OPL2. I don't have the option to purchase Teensy 3.5 . Blue Pill is available based on stm32f103c8t6 and YM3812.

Cool project ! Can we use Arduino Uno / mega ?
@diymicroelectronics26773 жыл бұрын
Sorry,but you not... Not enough performance to do that. Yeah, you can use Arduino OPL 2 library example Play(DRO,VGM,IMF).ino but you can play only one track that was selected in code. If you want to switch tracks by Arduino itself you can modify code,but there will be a lot of slowdowns.

How do you plug this into a keyboard?

Hello. Could you explain shortly how this works? Just connect it to my Windows 10 PC, fire up a vgm player and off we go? How is vgm working? Is it like a tracker file containing all the data for the timbres and songdata or is it just a long stream of register data?
@Aidan_Lawrence4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! All you have to do load .vgm files on to an SD card, plug it into the device, and power it via the USB port. The device itself will parse the .vgm files, so no computer is required. VGM is a logging format that captures the sound chip's data stream. What you hear from my device is synthesized in real time using the actual OPL3 chip using the same exact data stream that the original game would send to it's sound chip.

@@thomasr.1677 vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=207 here you will find some tools about vgm and an additional archive with vgz´s for the OPL2 and OPL 3 vgmrips.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=10

Cool. Does it play FM .S3Ms?
@Aidan_Lawrence5 жыл бұрын
Nope, VGM file format only. Since it's writing to the real chip, it needs the exact logged stream of data in order to accurately play back OPLx sound tracks.

opl.wafflenet.com/ here can get some nice scene traxx which converted from orginal Source Files to *.vgz s from S3m and other formats but, how i see the THROWBACK OPERATOR Player reads only uncompressed *.vgm´s -> vgz files must be decomrepessed before, for example with "7-Zip" and adding the "extension" *.vgm, ready to copy on sd card an other source you will find here ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/modules/Ad%20Lib/Screamtracker%203%20AdLib/ in terms of of the very nice THROWBACK OPERATOR Device, it would be nice if i could connect this THROWBACK OPERATOR Device to a modern Win10 PC, a dream would come true, then you could use it for FM music production in a DAW
