Brian Sipe was the man! From 1975-78 Greg Pruitt was the best RB in the NFL, better than even OJ Simpson but he had SO MANY injuries that hampered him & the Browns evolved into a pass oriented team with Sipe emerging as the passing wizard! He had really good receivers in Reggie Rucker, Dave Logan, Ozzie Newsome & Ricky Feacher. Sipe would call his own plays, sustain concussions and keep playing, he could get it done! The Browns outside of 1980 never had the championship defense to match that prolific offense orchestrated by Brian Sipe!

+David pollard Fouts of San Diego would have gone. But, much like the San Diego chokers 4 yrs in a row. Sipe blew it in the divisional playoffs. Should have won 15-14. Lost 14-12. Kosar would choke 86-87.

@@snakeoiler1292 Rutigliano caused the loss with his atroicious handling of the game--the INT against Oakland killed the Browns season and the play should never been called in the driving winds/chill of that day--the Browns went on to a few more years of mediocrity under Rutigliano and he was ultimately fired-and never coached in the NFL again

Sipe is the reason I became a Cleveland fan (and I live in Texas)... and even a football fan in general. When I was a kid... I'm 50 now.... I saw him on a kid's TV show... "Kids Are People Too"... and for some reason he just resonated with me and I have been a Browns fan ever since... except for a brief hiatus... but we won't talk about that. To this day... I have never even been to Cleveland. Alas, I don't get the same excitement I used to get from watching football... Football is different today. It seems a lot of players don't know what humility is. Anyway... yeah... Sipe.... he da man (or was anyway)

I started watching the Browns when I was 6. I remember the 80s Browns so well! Some of the fondest memories ever! The city was on Fire with Sipe and the guys. FF to 2020/2021...Baker is now our modern day Sipe. GO BROWNS!! Will it into existence!

I have no connection with the Browns or Cleveland except one Christmas around 78 or 79 my dad's military friend bought me and my brother Browns windbreakers. I'm from Louisiana so being a Saints fan in the 70's was torture, so just for a little while I became a bandwagon Browns fan and had the jacket to match. Those were good days for you Browns fans. I of course went back to my Saints.

Back in 1997 through work I came across this woman who’s last name was Sipe so of course I HAD to ask... She was related to him through marriage. I told her how he was my favorite QB as a kid! Yeah I wasn’t the first to ask that question within 2 minutes of meeting her. 👍🏻

I went to a game when I was a kid. Brian sipe was the quarterback. A fan had a jersey with his number and because I was only 8 years old I thought Brian sipe was in the stands somehow. I realized when the guy turned around it wasn’t him but my little kid brain got confused

Well I hope this isn't something terribly upsetting but something I learned fairly recently. As you know, the Cardiac Kids 1980 season ended with the Red Right 88 play in which Raider safety Mike Davis intercepted Sipe's pass intended for Ozzie Newsom in the end zone with 41 second left. Oakland won 14-12 - and went on to win the 1981 Super Bowl. In 1982, former Cleveland Browns players DE Lyle Alzado and RB Greg Pruitt were traded to the Raiders. Their new teammates told Pruitt that Mike Davis had easily the worst hands on the entire team. Gene Upshaw said Mike Davis couldn't catch a cold in Alaska in January. Yet there was Davis intercepting a pass on one of the coldest days in NFL history. Some of his teammates are still wondering how he did it.

I will never forget in 1981 how then Cleveland Browns coach Sam Rutigliano said he couldn't care less that Brian Sipe jumped to the USFL-as he was "damaged goods" anyway. He had complete confidence in QB Paul McDonald as he was a "very special player". Well that "special player" completely "choked" (the Browns started 1981 at 1-6) had to be benched and ultimately Rutigliano was fired by then Browns owner Art Modell

1983 was Sipe's last year with the Browns. They went 9-7 and missed the playoffs by one game. Paul McDonald started in 1984 and was awful. Sam Rutigliano was fired after 8 games and the defensive coordinator, Marty Schottenheimer took it from there! Paul McDonald didn't make the team in 1985, he was cut! The Browns had Gary Danielson starting and rookie Bernie Kosar backing him up!

I remember that also.. But I thought it was Modell that pushed him out.. Clueless leadership.. Then to the Generals where Flutie and his magic couldn't top Sipe... Along with Herschel Walker and Mourice Carthon and others.. How did they not win the championship.. Was Trump that teams owner? Bring back those games so I can watch.. Anthony Carter Michigan.. Yes, and in 1985 genius Modell fired Bill Belichek. The Browns have had talent but always lacked intelligent ownership. Haslem is no better even after having been a (very) minority owner of the Steelers to get tutored on owning a professional sports team. I don't think he learned very much. He should have stuck to the truck stops. At this point in the 2020 season the Browns are in play for a decent playoff spot. I bleed Steelers black and gold but have always been a Browns fan because of the Turnpike Rivalry the two teams owned for years. The Browns are on the way up and the Steelers continue to tread water, at best. Ben is old and tired and Baker is getting excellent experience. Teams ebb and flow and it's fun to watch. The Rooney's are becoming more socially woke and sacrificing talent and fire just to be politically correct. No way to run a business especially in the tough, hard hatted town like the Burg.
