SNSD was the start of girl group domination in mainstream Kpop. Back then, it was boy group dominated but SNSD started the trend and became the standard for following girl groups. They are essentially your idols' idols.

To my knowledge, after "S.E.S" & "Fin.k.l" in the 90's, the start of the return of the female idol syndrome was "Wonder Girls J.Y.P's ". After [Wonder Girls] became a big hit in Korea, they advanced to the United States, and other girl groups began competing to fill [Wonder Girls'] vacancy. The representative rivalries in the music industry in the late 2000s were [Wonder Girls] and [Girls' Generation]. The two girl groups, who debuted in the same year in 2007 and showed completely opposite styles, were always in a rivalry. However, in reality, [Girls' Generation] attended Sunye's wedding, and they promote each other's comeback, and the two groups' actual relationship is still good. Uhmm I think it started with Wondergirls and boomed with 2NE1, SNSD is just a part of it but mostly only in korea and japan but wondergirls and 2ne1 made girl groups more known internationally

Interesting choice for doing Bad Girl, that's a Japanese release, I might have gone with "I Got a Boy", or "Oh!" or "Mr. Mr." or something harder like "You Think" or "Catch Me If You Can".

Anecdote time: I was in the audience of GG's (possibly first) Kissing You performance on MCountdown where they had Kangta as the "love interest". Where I was seated, I could see the girls adorably play-fighting with their prop lollipops as they waited for their turn to perform. Also, keep up your awesome journey into the past 👍🏻

Girls Generation shaped the recipe followed by all girl group after their success. Their TV reality had lot of audience. Now is a common thing for idols with many platforms online but not back then. That said, they were in SM the big name in the industry at the time, or better said, one of the founders of the industry as it is. But they didn't went alone, the holy trinity of 2007 was Girls Generation, KARA and Wonder Girls . GG shaped the new formats and grew a big fanbase in the west, but KARA was breaking records never broken before for a Girl Group in the Asian Market beyond South Korea. Girls Generation and KARA were pretty much everywhere, they even guested several variety shows together and were at the peak for many years. Girls Generation keept the title of National Girl Group until it passed to TWICE from 2nd generation to 3rd, although GG members are iconical figures in the entertainment industry nowadays still appearing in TV shows, acting in movies or as singers, and the group is still considered active. KARA faced more difficulties and tragedy, they were most famous in Japan but they have gained more appretiation in their homeland with the passing of time.
