They tore down something you could only get in one place to put up something you could get anywhere.

I still miss this park. We went there every year for our end of School class trip. Tearing it down and replacing it with a mall was the biggest mistake they ever did. To this day I have only been to the mall once and It really isn't anything special.

Every mall in any places nowadays doesn't seem any good anymore! Look at Houston without Astroworld! It's a s*** hole here!

A friend and I ran into some visitors from the Midwest looking for Opryland at least five years after these interviews were filmed. The signs stayed up for quite awhile and they mentioned seeing them, but couldn't figure out where the heck the park was. When we informed them it closed years earlier, they were so disappointed. Felt bad for them.

Still to date the biggest mistake ever made in the history of Nashville. There was absolutely no benefit at all to shutting down a well beloved attraction that wasn't struggling at all in business. Shame on you, Terry London (the CEO of Gaylord Entertainment at the time, who quickly resigned after the mall opened).

Biggest joke ever they closed for a freaking mall. Greed ruins everything.

because it's watching a piece of history being destroyed like an old building.

We just lived with what we had. We had no choice in the matter.

@@brendatrump5163 well thanks so much for replying I really do appreciate it! Same in Houston to where we had Astroworld that I'm still mad about as I'm trying my best I can with life things popping up and with any mistakes I make and made back! As also for amusement parks not being the same anymore with classic rides now being gone like at King's Island and Islands of Adventure! I'm stuck with roller coaster tycoon building what I like want instead of wasting money traveling to other places where it's not what it used to be anymore! But nothing lasts forever I understand I can even hardly imagine if Astroworld was still open here what rides would still be here and then gone! I probably know and wouldn't go back to Astroworld anyway!

Kentucky Kingdom became popular suddenly overnight. At the time that Opryland closed, Dollywood was still a laughing stock, though it's great now. We're still waiting for something, but I'm optimistic about Storyville Gardens. It's the closest we've gotten to seeing anything happen, after many companies saying they're going to build here, but never did.

Opryland needs to return as a theme park again, not be turned into a GAYlord Mall created by Gays.

It closed 10/31/97. I worked there when I was 19 and watched the final guests leave the park sniffing and crying. I cried too. It was a horrible decision made for a mall
