I just started back with ceramics after an injured elbow caused me to take a couple of years off. Learning to throw this kind of form has completely reinvigorated my passion for throwing!!! Thanks for the awesome video too, answered some questions I’ve had!! Cheers!🎉

Tried this tonight and it worked out great! Plate may be a bit thin but I only intent to smooth it during trimming. I wish I could attach a picture, I’m so proud of myself! If I run into problems when drying, I’ll try again, but my fingers are crossed! Thanks

Hi Barbara! Love the demo, made four gorgeous stands. They survived the bisque fire perfectly. I glaze at cone ten and all four broke/cracked at the base of the foot. I'm wondering if the high temp is the issue since all four had the same results. Are you firing at a lower cone?

Thanks for the demo. How do you glaze fire the piece? If you put it the right way up won't the platter slump? (If fired for stoneware)

To prevent slumping, , I make sure to throw the stem at least 2/3 as wide as the widest part of the cake plate.

Do you bisque fire it upside down?

Make sure the clay is very well kneaded before you put it on the wheel to use it. Also maybe thin it out some from underneath once it's dried some...meaning flip the piece upside down and trim some out of the middle, off the bottom etc. ~~Mrs. Defiglio ☺
