A wild camp on Callaly Crag, Thrunton woods with the Telemark Nordisk 1. We find McCartney's Cave, an old hermits retreat, stumble across an old bushcraft camp and check out the wonderful old beech trees on Castle Hill, an ancient iron age hill fort

Have a good camp mate, there’s some great pitches up there, I reckon you’ll miss the midges now as well 🤷‍♂️

Heading up there shortly, wondering where the old bushcraft spot was?

I didn’t note the exact location but basically climbed callalay crag from McCartney’s cave and at the top turned left and followed the path. Not difficult to find 👍

Totally jealous, always a spot I’ve wanted to camp at! Looks like you’ve had the perfect weather for it too

I reckon it will be an excellent winter spot when there are no midges but the crag gave me a little bit of a beasting on the way up!

Yeah totally agree would be a great place in the winter, but never again this time of year haha, the film makers skill masked over the oppressive midge swarm.

Like father like son. Did the long walk with Archie a few years ago. Got to the hilly part and realised I had left my brand new walking pole at the car park. Dashed back and found it. Then only had time to do the short walk. Happy days (daze).

Ah, the old ‘leave something at the carpark to avoid a long walk’ Classic! 😂

Thanks for the sub, appreciate it. Thrunton is a great place to explore and camp. Midges were bad though so not going back till winter. Thanks for the info on the camp, interesting.

Hey Graham, been wild camping a few times now and love it. Usually solo but go with whoever wants to tag along! Can you tell me to get onto that trail do you park at the main Car park or somewhere else please? Thanks great content.

Hi, apologies for delayed reply, I was up in Scotland exploring some Bothies. I went past the main car park where the road bends to the left and parked by the forestry barrier there. Mind you: I haven't been in donkeys, not since before Storm Arwen so I don't know what it's like down there now. ATB, Graham 👍👍
