Very beautiful and stunning. It’s interesting to see how other Cathedral Builders use very different Block Types for the Details like the armors at the West-Front. I use Sandstone with the Faces for these Statues. Someday I will try this Cathedral. I already built Notre-Dame, Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence and Cologne Cathedral. I have released a Video of Notre-Dame de Paris today.

Also! As I watched all your videos and listened to all talks, I would really love to see Westminster Abbey or beauvais or Reims in your wonderful inspirative style! I became lately a big fan of Gothic, so if you would by any coincidence look for an inspiration, in my opinion those would look incredible too in your style!

ive been touring it myself, its absolutely mind-blowing, i am inspired and so excited to build my own churches. I noticed the vaulting in the aisles on either side of the nave isn't symmetrical, it looks different when it meets the wall in some aisles, to me that just gives it such a realistic and human quality
@CathedralTalk2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, I try to capture the asymmetries when I can for that reason. The Notre-Dame de Paris build, also included in the map, is even more asymmetrically with its towers slightly different widths and the effects that has upon the groundplan.

@@CathedralTalk why are there so many different colours used tho? like why are the portals purple
@CathedralTalk2 жыл бұрын
@@daveunbelievable6313 The portals are purple? That's weird; they're made of stone, stone-bricks, and andesite. The roof is made of purpur and prismarine variants so you need the texture pack that is also linked on the page I linked for you earlier. I wanted a block that gives the good subtle blue tint of a lead-sheathed roof, and blue are hard to come by in Minecraft, so I made my own texture pack.

You´re amazing! I find interesting that the south tower seems like empty in comparison with the other
@CathedralTalk2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Indeed, Amiens' towers are strangely diminutive. I *think* Amiens' two bourdon bells are in the north, louvered tower, and my guess is that Amiens' 4+ lighter bells are sitting on the floors of the open aired south tower, but I need to verify this--something that hasn't been easy to do!
@TheChobou17 күн бұрын
im from amiens it really looks similar!! ig only the stone u used, IRL it's more similar to sandstone in mc than stonebricks and andesite, the cathedral looks yellow white kinda irl

Is Notre Dame de Amiens the tallest Gothic cathedral in France? I visited it once and thought it was taller than Notre Dame de Paris. Great job on the build. Greetings from France!
@ThomasSchutt2 жыл бұрын
Greetings! Amiens has the tallest nave in France, excluding Beauvais which is incomplete. However in terms of absolute height, Rouen and Strasbourg have the tallest towers in France. While still tall, Notre-Dame de Paris is a bit shorter than these other cathedrals since it was the prototype that inspired many of the other cathedrals to be built.

have you ever considered playing modded minecraft? The level of detail and realism that you can achieve with conquest reforged for example, is stunning. there are many examples of some of the best cathedrals on twitter
@CathedralTalk2 жыл бұрын
From time to time I do think about going more heavily modded like with Conquest Reforged. The main reason I stick with vanilla blocks is that I enjoy working within the constraints. For me, Conquest Reforged veers a little too close into "well, why don't I just make a full 3D wireframe of the cathedral on my own" without any constraints. I like for my builds to feel like they would fit nicely into anyone else's Minecraft map, hence why I try not to mess with the texture pack too much, with a few specific exceptions. Similarly that's why I tend to favor 1:1 scale builds rather than monstrously-scaled builds too--they seem too out-of-place in regular Minecraft.

you got my sub now very good video, very good build i like it that you build 1:1 not many cathedral videos are 1:1 it would be an honor for me if you would look at my builds and tell me what you think i know my vanilla builds are not as detailed as yours
@CathedralTalk2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your compliments! I do have a natural affinity for 1:1 builds, and I wish more folks would try them. I took a look at a few of your builds-overall, I really like your take on Gothic Architecture, and I think it is neat you designed your own custom-built cathedral. While I tend to build replicas more than original concepts, I do want to design an original cathedral myself sometime here. Since you asked for it, I have a few suggestions for ways to up your building game: 1. Ever strive to diversify your basic building block types. Rather than overuse Stone Bricks for 90%+ of your structure, try a mixture of stone, andesite, stone bricks, cracked stone bricks, and other blocks within the given block palette you're in. 2. Emphasize details with contrasting colors (even if in real life the details might be monochrome with the rest of the structure). Since Minecraft is limited in how much detail you can squeeze in, you have to over-emphasize some details with different color. The balustrades around the roofs of Amiens for example aren't actually a different color than the rest of the real-life structure, but I use the color of diorite to make them stand out more so that the detail doesn't get lost in all the blockiness. 3. Iterate, iterate, iterate. Don't be afraid to destroy part of a build to give it a second try. Leonardo Da Vinci's best works were known for him drawing then erasing, drawing then erasing, drawing then erasing until he could finally get the perfect outline of the figure he was painting. Same goes for Minecraft-iterate on what you've done. You might have seen, I made four previous iterations of Notre-Dame before I arrived at the one today I'm happy with. In your build, the part you might revisit is your chevet or "east-end" with the apse. The best gothic cathedrals have an ambulatory that wraps around the apse with radiating chapels on the outer wall. Your cathedral seems to be stunted somewhat without these passageways, and it might really pay off to have another go at that back end of your build. This is technically usually the hardest part of Minecraft cathedral builds, and it often take me several tries to get it where I'm happy. I'd love to hear how it goes. Best of luck, and happy building!

@@CathedralTalk Thanks for the Tips. I will try it the next vanilla build. Problem is I have build the cathedrals in 1.12.2 in my survival World and so I didnt have All the materials. I think i will build the next one in last mc Version to have mor blocks for Details. And the apsis of the one cathedral is intended to be so. I know most cathedrals dont Look like that but I hate to build that Part on the cathedral before (there its round) so I took an example of the Regensburger Dom bc there the apsis is like mine. Btw did u saw my last Video with the chisel and bits church? Its my best build so far. I used a mod to make the blocks smaller. Thanks for your replay and advice
