what did professor mean by saying you dont have to drill vias but connect to the ground using the short ckt we got at 28:26

when you're making a circuit board, typically you'll have traces on the top and bottom, and a large metal plane connected to ground in the middle. in order to short something to ground, you typically have to drill a via, which is a hole plated with copper.

the transmission line is a 2 port device. you have the line and the ground. sig(in) sig(out) o----------------------o o----------------------o gnd gnd now if you make it behave like a short circuit, it shorts between its ends, so you create a short to ground

Your lectures are gorgeous. However, shouldn't the plot in 35:00 start from -inf?

Why just changing to minus the first term not the second?

+Brenda Saller I guess you are talking about the first term exponential of the current for open circuit. I think is due to you need to get sin(+vebeta Z). However, it actually doesnt matter, cause you are able to get it by sin(-beta z)=sin(beta z)
