Mopreme Shakur, Macadoshis, and Big Syke, the remaining members of Thug Life, spoke exclusively to VladTV about how 2Pac heavily advocated for Interscope to sign them after he formed the group. Syke explained that it took a lot of persuading from 2Pac to convince the label, and he added that they then faced an uphill battle with censorship on Thug Life: Volume 1. Speaking more about their debut project, Syke revealed that the original planned album wasn't what was released to the public, and he added that popular songs like "How Long Will They Mourn Me" originally were featured on the project.
During the interview the three artists were also asked about their gang ties, and Big Syke explained that he doesn't promote his 'hood, because he believes that it's nothing to play with. He then added that he went to jail when he was a teenager for living the street life, but Syke said that he doesn't want to promote that lifestyle in the media.
Check out more of what Thug Life had to say in the above interview, including when 2Pac got his "Thug Life" tattoo.

Pac wanted thuglife as the start of a movement/label that would go around everywhere finding and promoting talent, sharing the game with everyone living that thuglife. The likes of Syke would have been solo on Makaveli label etc these guys were the shit. It all ended when the system of corruption killed 2Pac!

I got my first $20.00 by age twelve in 1994. I figured I would buy something nice for myself and save the rest. That nice gesture ended up being me going into a record store and buying my first rap album: Thug Life Vol. 1. Unlike today, 90's youth would take their cassette tapes to school and flash them to let peers know they up on the latest hip hop. Cradle to the Grave stayed on repeat in my walkman.

This interview perfectly explains why and how Tupac transformed. These dudes are real, street certified and intelligent. So thankful they got to express this perspective and share their story. The LA streets really impacted Tupac way before he signed to Death Row. Shout out to all my people in the struggle trying to make it against all odds.

Pac was way out his depth in them L.A streets ,shouldnt have tryed to mix it with the bangers he wasnt from that life its deep rooted out in the hoods past down generations of familys,pac had limited understanding of the gang culture and it cost him his life trying to be something he simply wasnt,it was all image these dudes even said it themselves,compared to the real bangers out there pac and these guys are just studio gangsters selling records.
@Leopard190
@Leopard190 10 ай бұрын
@@bigprob8744I agree with you to a point. I think your assessment of Pac is valid. It was more of an image thing for him. However, Big Syke, Mac, and Rated R were active gang members within their respective crip neighborhoods. Although they happened to also rap, their education and upbringing was that gang lifestyle. This did not change when Pac signed with Death Row. There he was more around Bloods, as those were Suge Knight’s affiliations. Again, alot of the people that hang around Death Row headquarters were active in that lifestyle. It’s common knowledge that Suge’s failure to separate that active street lifestyle from the business he was conducting with his label is largely to blame its downfall. Former Outlaw, Napoleon, has some good interviews explaining how wild it was at Death Row back then. Napoleon himself was heavily involved in street life from his NJ neighborhood. All this is to say that wisely or unwisely, many of Pac’s closest associates (and group members) were about that life.

2Pac stopped fucking with Big Syke before his death. 2Pac was planning to leave Deathrow after the Makaveli album and wanted to sign The Outlawz and Big Syke. Pac told Syke to be patient to don't sign to Deathrow because Suge wasnt fair. Instead of listening to Pac, Syke went behind Pac's back and tried to sign a deal with Suge. Pac was mad when he found out about the deal and cut Syke off immediately.

+FIRSTNAMEMARKO Wow I didn't that. I don't think Pac would have left after the Makaveli album because he still contractually owed Suge another album. Pac had to go to court in November 96 for rape case (people forget he was out on bail) on probably would have to do time anyway.

+aldeb456 actually 2Pac fulfilled his contract with Deathrow with the completion of the Makaveli album, the double disc was the first of its kind and counted as 2 full albums in the beginning so with Makaveli it make 3. It was never about the actual albums make, it was all about them getting that 1.5 M owed during the contract signing which Pac made 10x over on All Eyez On Me. Few people knew that Pac had audited Deathrow Records to make them show the books and records of his income to prove he no longer owed them money therefore making him a free agent again. 2Pac was in the early stages of suing Deathrow Records if they weren't willing to let him walk away. By the time Toss It Up video shoot happened Pac was no longer under David Kenner and Deathrows legal team so he was planning to make his own moves at that point. 2Pac wasn't leaving Deathrow 100%, he was gonna start Makaveli Records and have it distributed thru Deathrow Records. And Hussein Fatal was also cut off by Pac and kicked out The Outlawz weeks before Pac's death because he crashed abd totalled 2Pac's Mercedes Benz.
