The Thule 898 Hullavator Pro and Thule 897XT Hullavator are the world's easiest lift assist kayak roof carriers. This unique kayak rack system alllows boats to be loaded at chest level at the side of a vehicle. Its hydraulic lift system lifts up to 40lbs of the kayak's weight, allowing for easy one person loading. After loading and strapping the boat at chest level, simply engage the release handles and guide the boat up to the roof.
The Hullavator and Hullavator Pro include heavy duty tie-down straps with rubber buckle protectors to strap the boat into the carrier. Thule QuickDraw ratcheting bow and stern tie-down ropes are also included to secure the front and back of the kayak to your vehicle's tow loops.
The new 898 Hullavator Pro carries boats up to 36" wide, and fits with Thule AeroBlade bars.

Thule's new 898 Hullavator Pro has been upgraded compared to the classic 897XT Hullavator for spring 2015. The new Hullavator Pro can accommodate boats up to 36" wide, and the rack's new wider base is able to be mounted to Thule AeroBlade Edge racks. The days of sacrificing a factory-fresh base rack look for easy kayak mounting are over.

@@cassandrapanda9101 I got rid of my J bars and got the old school 4-piece cradle with the felt pads. Now all I have to do is get the bow up on the tailgate and I’m done, easy peasy. Just can’t take two yaks but I’m mostly solo anyways, still have the J bars if someone is joining me.

It stops short of hitting the side of the vehicle. This is why it's important to make sure the bars are long enough (wide enough) on top to make sure it sticks out enough on each side of vehicle to ensure there's clearance when the hullavator is in that vertical position.

Love the concept, had been looking for a roof rack for the Subaru Outback and was about to buy a Pro Rack well that was until I found the Thule rack systems.

Der Thule Hullavator ist leider für den Transport von Kajaks, die einem Seekajak gleichkommen, völlig ungeeignet. Ich habe ihn mir für den Transport eines P&H Leo gekauft. Die hintere Spannschnur erhält keinen Kontakt zum Boot und kann dieses nicht stabilisieren. Ein sicherer Transport ist daher nicht möglich. Der Thule-Händler hat den Mangel erkannt und nimmt den Träger zurück. Die Firma Thule allerdings nimmt sich von dieser Thematik nichts an und hält weiterhin an seinem "mangelfreien" Produkt fest.
