I just intalled the 53" Thule wingbars on my new 2023 Honda CRV. Tomorrow I will add the Hullavator, but I'm really worried it's not going to work as I only ave 3.75 inches of overhang on the bar. I know they say 4 inch minimum, but I'm hoping I can squeek it out!
@4WheelsOnTheRoad

Wicked! They are fully adjustable in what position you put them in on the rack so you will be sweet. I moved mine a few times and ended up moving it to the point where, when it was down, it only missed my window by a few centimetres

I have a 52 lb Virgo P&H, 14.5 ft. I currently have a showdown but I can't lift the kayak to have the bars in a straight line w/ the stationary bars on the car roof. Wonder if a hullavator would work? It looks like you still need to pull the kayak on its side when you start to get it off the roof. I see it goes down nicely then. When I'm putting it on the car , do I need to lift the kayak to get the hullavator to start working? Some say I should get a trailer, but I have a Honda Civic.

Great video, Mate! Sorry I'm just seeing this now that I bought two Hullavators for my Chevy Tahoe. Would like to have seen you rack your kayak from the ground to the top, but I still picked up several great tips I can use. Are those red clips part of the foot that holds your cross bars to the tent case top? They're not on my Hullavators. Not sure about mounting the Hullavators anywhere along the crossbars, since Thule instructions say mount to the ends of the crossbars;. If you need more side clearance, you use wider crossbars. Thanks again!
@4WheelsOnTheRoad
@4WheelsOnTheRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Gidday Larry, yep the red clips hold the racks to the mount that goes in the track on my rooftop tent. I spent a while working out where to mount the racks in terms of how far they come out from the side of the truck and found I only needed enough to give me space so they didn’t hit the side of the truck when they are down. I could have mounted them a bit further out to the side but no need. Thanks very much for watching and subscribing and feel free to check out more of the channel if you want to check out Australia. Thanks for the speedy reply! I think I may have stumbled on another tip tonight while practicing with our Hurricane Pacer 16.5' kayak. It's pretty narrow and looks like it's sitting needlessly on the edge of the roof. I think for better weight distribution with less leverage on the roof rack, I'll see if I can move the outer cradle in towards the center along with the inner "adjustable" cradle. That should shift the kayak in towards the center of the roof. Hope that made sense. Thanks again!

Do you think the Hullavator could be used with a paddleboard? As in could it be secured properly or only suitable for kayaks.
@4WheelsOnTheRoad
@4WheelsOnTheRoad Жыл бұрын
it depends on the weight, it is rated to 18kg so if your paddleboard is 18kg or under then go for gold!

As you know I recently bought some second hand. I find for my plastic kayaks they are brilliant. For my Kevlar mirage I lay foam down on the racks first because on mine the base is just too hard for me to want to risk rubbing the gel coat. The other thing is with the mirage it gets a real wobble on at 100km/h. I don’t know if this is a length thing. My plastic kayak is 4.2m the mirage is 5.8m. The unit itself seems to wobble a lot in its mounting bracket a bit. I don’t know if it’s just old and worn or what. But that’s what is wobbling the kayak, because the boat is firm in the cradle, it’s the actual hullivator joints that wobble. (Probably not explaining this well lol). Otherwise I find them great.
@4WheelsOnTheRoad
@4WheelsOnTheRoad 3 жыл бұрын
maybe its a combo of it being second hand and the light weight of it? or maybe just the weight and the length?
@Beyondthebackyard-au
@Beyondthebackyard-au 3 жыл бұрын
@@4WheelsOnTheRoad true, the mirage is lighter even though it’s longer. I hadn’t thought of that aspect.

Idk if you have worked it out, but I have seen comments on other vids complaining they’re no good for sea kayaks due to them being narrower & lower therefore not being able to secure them well with a tie down strap (to which I would say tie down to the roof rack itself like you would traditionally but anyway lol).
@Beyondthebackyard-au
@Beyondthebackyard-au 9 ай бұрын
@@Dr_Footbrake mine work well for my sea kayaks. I use a bow and stern tie down strap as well on kayaks longer than 5m which helps once you hit 100km/h. But every sea kayak I have put on has been high enough to strap down.
